Understanding Endorsements
SOPHOMORE CONFERENCES
One-on-one conference between student & counselor
Review currently declared Endorsement
Students will be allowed to change Endorsement during this conference (or during Junior Conference next year)
If a change is made, the student will complete a new four-year plan. Your signature/acknowledgement of the declared endorsement(s) is
required this year & any time a change is made.
It is imperative that students and parents accurately track their Endorsement requirements & progress as the student moves throughout high school.
Additional Notes re: Endorsements
At this time, colleges & universities in Texas are not putting weight on the Endorsement a student graduates with. They are still looking for rigor in the coursework & core curriculum.
Private schools & schools outside of Texas will not be familiar with Endorsements. They will be looking at rigor of coursework & core curriculum.
Some endorsements give flexibility in Math & Science choices. Others don’t require a 4th year of Social Studies. Students & parents should pay particular attention to what core curriculum is required by the college or university the student is considering.
