The latest example is the ‘Night CityGun Buy-back’ program. Anyone canbring a firearm of any size and shape todesignated locations throughout the cityand in exchange for surrendering theirgun, they will receive €100 and a NCPD T-shirt. Indeed, many of the long guns andpistols purchased have been obsoleteand/or inoperable as weapons. “In one week, we have collected 17pistols, 15 submachine guns, and 98 longguns,” said Jones when questioned on thesuccess of his program. Last year’s success was such thatsome council members joked there wouldbe “no more guns worth getting” this year. To keep the program from bankruptcy,the compensation money was loweredfrom €150 to the current €100. It has beensaid that council members have alsoreceived a 5% raise thanks to thecutbacks in compensation prices.

As the chorus began and acrowd gathered, a figure, dressed in allDora Flores®, stepped out of the crowdand into the hologram, tossing back anoversized, €1500 purple fedora. The audience stood silently until thefigure peeled back their full face wigrevealing Simones’ patentedPerfectLook© face. The concert lasted for a single encorebefore she disappeared in a swirling rosescented rainbow cloud. These flash concerts are thought to beSimones’s own brainchild a midst recentrumors of kidnapping threats against themusician.

Recently, however, Netrunners haveexpanded from innocent pranks to extortionthrough digital graffiti. “I’ve had to hire someone four times inthe last month,” says Hans Johanson,owner of Hans’s family restaurant, “Hans’sund Griddle”. The latest cyber tagging involves ananimated, purple phallus being shoved intoa turning meat grinder placed over theirbuilding on the Public Net. “Until I can discover the perpetrators, I’mforced to hire a netrunner who could verywell be the one causing these issues for mybusiness,” stated Hans with despair. “Iunderstand there are good hackers amongthe bad, but so long as the NCPD showslittle concern for the community they serve,my business will continue to suffer.” NCPD’s Net Crimes Division wasunavailable for comment.
