Habit burger, CHipotleComing to soutH napa

Located inside the new napa Crossing South, retailersmichaels, marshalls and HomeGoods stores aim tofill the homes of napans while two new restaurants
— Habit Burger and Chipotle — aim to fill their stomachs.
The new Habit Burger and Chipotle will each be eachfood chain’s second napa outlet. Their first restaurants arein napa Crossing north on Trancas Street. Developer PacificProperties, of Chico, created both centers.
“Our first restaurant is performing really well in napa,and we think a second will as well,” said Danielle Winslow,spokeswoman for Chipotle, based in Colorado, which hasmore than 1,600 restaurantsnationwide.
The chain typically looks toopen restaurants in areas “wherewe see a strong concentrationof daytime and nighttime traffic,”Winslow said.
The south napa Chipotleshould be opening in the firstquarter of 2015, she said. it willemploy 25 to 30 people.
“That hiring will beginrelatively soon,” said Winslow.Potential employees can visit thechain’s website to apply, she said.
“We’re very excited tocontinue our business in napaand look forward to openinganother restaurant there,” shesaid.
Habit Burger did not return requests for information. anopening date has not been announced. The restaurant chainopened its first napa restaurant in 2012. according to itswebsite, there are a total of 116 Habit Burger eateries in fourstates: California, arizona, utah and new Jersey.

The median price of a napa County home decreased10.8 percent from September to October, from$583,750 to $520,625, according to the north Bay
association of realtors (norBar).
The realtors group said 31 percent of purchases werecash only, 56 percent were purchased using a conventionalloan, and the remaining 13 percent were federal Housingadministration or Veterans affairs (fHa/Va) orother types of loans. The numbers do not includesales of mobile homes.
October’s median price — half of sales werehigher, half were lower — is still 7.1 percenthigher than a year earlier when the figure was$486,000, records show.
While the median price decreased, “thenumber of units sold and total value of units soldhas increased, reflecting a positive trend,” saidTimothy Hedges, president of norBar.
a total of 124 units sold in napa County inOctober, compared to 112 in September. Thetotal value rose 18.4 percent, from $92 million to$109 million.
“napa is on track to see the market fullyrecovered,” Hedges said.
in Sonoma County, the median pricedecreased 3 percent from September to $460,000.
“Lower interest rates and minimal home pricegains kept California’s housing affordability incheck in the third quarter of 2014 and even helpedimprove affordability in some high-cost countiesin the San francisco Bay region,” according to anorBar news release.
The percentage of homebuyers who couldafford to purchase a median-priced, existingsingle-family home in California in the thirdquarter of 2014 was unchanged from the 30percent recorded in the second quarter of 2014but was down from a revised 32 percent in thethird quarter of 2013, according to the Californiaassociation of realtors Traditional Housingaffordability index.

it is hard to believe, but there are only about sevenweeks left of 2014. during these upcoming weeks,there will be a lot of events competing for your time, not
the least of which are the big holidays.
There is still enough time to do some year-end taxplanning if you don’t procrastinate. here are a few things youmight consider.
if you have more assets than you will ever need, considermaking gifts to your family using the annual gift exclusion. Thelimit for 2014 is $14,000. a couple can give up to $28,000 perrecipient. you can give cash, stocks, bonds or a portion ofreal estate. after dec. 31, this opportunity expires. There is nopaperwork required.
if you haven’t already made your contributions to tax-advantaged savings plans, there is still time. of course, thisincludes 401(K) plans, iRas and othertax-deferred plans. if your employermatches any part of your contribution,even better.
if you are self-employed, don’tforget your retirement plan options,like sEP or health savings plans.
For many taxpayers, there isstill time to adjust your income taxwithholding or quarterly payments. ifyou got a big refund last year, youmay want to adjust. a refund is simplya return of your money and in essencethe recognition of an interest-free loanto the government.
Consider doing some “taxharvesting.” if you have capital gainsoutside your retirement accounts, youmay be able to lower your tax bill byselling your winners and offsetting thegain by also selling your losers. youmay be able to offset each dollar ofgain by each dollar of loss. There area few tricky rules, but this tip can save a lot in income taxes.Keep in mind that if you want to buy back the stocks you sold,you must wait 30 days to avoid the “wash-sale” rules.
another technique used by experienced taxpayers is toaccelerate your deductions. For example, if you can itemizeyour deductions, consider making your January payments
in december. This works for things like state-estimatedtaxes or paying your spring property tax installment beforethe year is over. Remember this only works if your itemizeddeductions exceed the standard deduction of $6,200 for singletaxpayers, $12,400 for married couples and $9,100 for headsof households.
Finally, you can make your charitable contributions inadvance. again, to maximize this option, you must be ableto itemize your deductions. also, you should get a receiptfor every donation, not just for those that exceed $250. youcan also donate stocks or bonds that have appreciatedsubstantially. not only do you get a tax deduction, but you alsoavoid the capital gain tax, too.
