Canadian made education program that began 30 years
ago. In Richmond since 1978.
Designed for students whose first language is NOT French.
Begins in Kindergarten or Grade one. All subjects are
taught in French.
English Language Arts is introduced in Grade 3.
Students may continue in the French Immersion High
Schools (McRoberts or McMath).

child?
Become involved in the classroom and school
Share expertise and skills with the class
Help organize activities, assist on fieldtrips, preparematerials at home, give ideas or input to the program
Expose your child to your own traditions and stories
Show positive attitude towards language and culture.
Continue to read stories in English.
Watch French programs or videos, listen to a French CD

Parent to register in person at your catchment school.
Child must be 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2011.
Bring proof of Canadian Citizenship (or landedimmigrant/permanent residence status) for bothparent and child.
Bring your childs original birth certificate andimmunization record.
Bring proof of Richmond residency (tax notice,mortgage document, purchase/rental agreement)
What is the Registration
Process?

Applications will begin on January 17, 2011
Pick up an Alternate Program Application Form fromthe school where you have registered.
Submit application to the Richmond School Board,7811 Granville Avenue, 1st Floor, by February 4,2011 at 4:00 p.m.
Draw date: Wednesday, February 9, 2011
Applicants will be informed of draw results
Parents to confirm acceptance by March 1, 2011
How Do I Apply for EFI?

For September 2011, EFI will be offered at
7 schools: Mitchell, Whiteside, Anderson,
Bridge, Dixon, Gilmore and Homma
Kindergarten will be all day (FDK)
Transportation is the parents responsibility
Acceptance into the school of choice is on
a lottery basis.
Things to note:

Priority will be given to a child who has a sibling
in the immersion program in the school and
there is space.
If there are more sibling applicants than spaces,
there will be a separate draw in that school.
Siblings of students enroled in the English
program are not given sibling priority in LFI.
