Fellow Fashion Lovers,
What an exciting month around the fashion globe! Fashion Weeks are
revealing the newest of designer’s F/W 2014 collections as the cream rises
to the top, and the best of the fashion elite release their creativity and vision
to those who eagerly await the pure aesthetic of designers like that of Dubai-
based designer, Furne Amato. This month we feature the FURNE ONE
collection directly from backstage and front row of New York’s Mercedes-Benz
Fashion Week, thanks to our Fashion FacesTV NY correspondant, Wade Lee.
40’s inspired beadwork and silouettes in gray offer a muted winter tone that
speed the heart and drop the jaw! So much inspiration, we will continue
to share more of the event in the next issue!
Also, we are pleased to share this Spring with diverse and lovely actress,
Lauren Holly. Sharing more about her dynamic roles and personal life,
FF staff interviews the currently residing Canadian as we discuss her role
as Dr. Betty Rogers in MOTIVE. I can recall her memorable role as ‘Mary
Swanson’ in the comedy film, Dumb and Dumber. We can say with certainty
she is smart, caring, creative and always on the move! Enjoy this editorial, as
photographed by BABAK, capturing Lauren’s warm and personable smile.
Additionally, our hats off to Brande Wilkerson, Fashion Faces’ Creative
Marketing-Web Editor, on the very intimate editorial based on her personal
fight and lingering hope from breast cancer. We are so proud of her diligence
and positivity. She has been coping with grace and offering even more
of herself than ever; reminding us that every day is another opportunity
for self expression in our relationships, art and productivity. Be inspired by
her two shoots, aptly named, “The Choice” and “Shredded.” Should you know
someone or even be one suffering from such a disease, please reach out and
keep your hope and faith alive by interacting and associating with those who
will celebrate your individuality, strengths and life. As always, keep creating
and expressing your SELF. Hold on and keep fighting. There is only ONE you.

PERSONALBRANDING
Angel Hargreaves
he idea of marketing yourself is not new. Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, Orville Redenbacher and Tyra Banks
all have names that represent their products, services, company or experience. In fact, everyone recognizes these
brands by their owner’s personal branding. The more you are out in front of and interacting with the potential client
or customer, the more you are judged by building their loyalty and trust. There are two ways in which to personally
brand your self and business. One way you recognize the organization is by the person themselves. For example,
Tony Robbins is an individual who has a business and a mission that has his name and image in the front and center
of every marketing tool. The other is a model that does not link the person’s name to their organization; with this,
it leaves room for future ownership change. However, the business is connected to the personality of the branding.
An example: a model representing Calvin Klein. Here are ways “How to” personally brand yourself:
YOUR IMAGE - Include a personal professional headshot. This sets the foundation of a trusting relationship
with potential clients, customers or agents.
YOUR LOGO - By definition, a logo is a design used by an organization on its letterhead, advertising material,
and signs as an emblem by which the organization can easily be recognized. This helps people to know who you are.
YOUR BLOG - This captures your personality, humor or who you are to connect with the agent, client or potential
customers. The often-updated information creates a following and content is shared. It would be wise to have grammar
checked and to include a number of links to involve the reader interactively.
YOUR WEBSITE - Choosing the most descriptive name for the domain will make it easier for those to search
or remember your online identity. Generally the landing page will feature your logo or personal image, video or podcast,
links to social media accounts, slogan, product, shopping cart, bio and contact information. Having a website is like
a mini business card with more information about you and your business offering people an oversight about your
location, products/services and social media links.
http://sharingourfieldsofdreams.com

MARKETPLACE
T
YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA - Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus and LinkedIn are all great sources to reach
potential clients and let your personality stand out. Sharing written articles on recommendations for a product or networking
businesses can help to build authority within your industry and community. Encourage your people to voice out their opinion
and respond to them publicly showing the type of personal service they can expect. Interact often with customers, potential
clients or agents, ensuring the essence of your personal brand.
YOUR VIDEOS AND PODCASTS - It is very easy and inexpensive to create your own short video blog post
and podcast; speaking about your advice or opinions, or interviewing other customers or experts. Video has been proven
to be the best source of Internet media. Your Authorship: Writing a book or writing articles through a traditional publisher or
self-publishing is another great way to establish publicity or creditability. You can produce it yourself or hire a ghostwriter.
Having a book can be a personal outlet to express your opinions, advice and experiences; therefore gaining a genuine following.
YOUR BUSINESS CARDS - Having a small headshot helps the potential client remember who you are when they
look back at the card. Some forget names and faces of those they have networked with unless they have the visual association.
Include your branding, name, position/title, slogan/tagline, phone number, email address and website on your business card.
YOUR PERSONAL BRANDING SLOGAN - Create a short, catchy phrase that distinctively represents and
promotes your overall efforts and helps identify your services. For example the company “Nike…Just do it.” Another example
is my book called, “Statements of Power” Change Your Statements, Your Life & World Changes” or an renown speaker Angel
Heide “Human Potential Mentor.”
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS - Your personal branding should be focused on what you share with the world.
However, how you conduct your business and yourself on a daily basis is very important by the way you dress, speak to your
network and the quality of your work are the most powerful ways for you to communicate what is special and unique about you
and your organization. To express your personal branding:
BE REAL - Being real is your authentic friendly quality and is the most effective marketing. No being slick will do.
BE VULNERABLE - It is okay to tell stories of your failures in both business and personal life, of where you are now
and admitting being overwhelmed by a challenge in your business or life. This will aid in gaining trust and connection
between you and others as a genuine human being.
BE TRANSPARENT - Show true stories of client testimonials, case studies and/or statistics from the many people
you have helped. It is a more powerful influence than impressive credentials.

’m launching my very own skin product line called FoM™ soon.
It’s about clean, light, high quality products that I have designed to enhance the look and style of both men and women equally.
The name FoM comes from a blend of the words femme and homme. I love the imagery of sea foam — clean, refreshing and natural!
We live in a new era. Old gender roles and rules are confining and out-of-date. I decided to design the FoM products as I began to see an exciting new feeling of individualism and self-expression developing in my clients and the people I meet everyday. People want to have self-determination in all aspects of their lives more than ever. I believe that is reflected in their choice of lifestyle products too. FoM™ expresses that ideal. We believe we are creating more than a product. We intend to be a lifestyle brand. We like to say, “Ästhetiks are Evolving. Are You?”™ I’m excited about the evolution of FoM™!
We haven’t launched yet, but those who are interested can sign up to receive email updates about the FoM line at: http://bymarcela.com

BEE VENOM: A Buzzing New Trend
anuka Doctor, an innovative skincare therapy company with
headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand, is using the potency
of bee venom to produce safe, natural, and functional skin
treatments. Products are composed of patented Purified Bee
Venom and New Zealand Manuka Honey, which combine to
create moisturizers, facemasks, serums, and cleansers
that effectively combat acne and aging.
The Purified Bee Venom used by Manuka Doctor is raw bee
venom that has been purified in a sustainable and bee friendly
way. During the purification process any and all impurities
are removed from the venom, which in turn creates more
potent venom. This purification furthermore “makes the active
components highly concentrated,” which means that less venom
is needed to achieve visible results. Manuka Doctor describes
their products as “naturally inspired, scientifically enhanced,”
which indicates that they use scientific research to better
the preexisting qualities of natural ingredients.
JWT Global Trend Analysts has named bee venom the “number
one beauty trend of 2013.” It is evident that bee venom boasts
properties beneficial to the general wellness of the skin, as bee
venom products are used by celebrities like Kate Middleton,
Victoria Beckham, and Scarlett Johansson to obtain flawless skin.
Manuka Doctor products are divided into three primary lines:
ApiNourish, ApiClear, and ApiRevive. ApiNourish, which claims
to “protect & moisturize the skin,” relies on the skin regenerating
qualities of bee venom and the moisturizing qualities of Manuka
honey. ApiClear relies on the antibacterial properties of Purified
Bee Venom, and advertises, “balance for troubled skin.” The
ApiClear line is geared toward those looking for a solution to
acne. ApiRevive boasts “restorative natural products.” Each
product is created to serve a specific skin problem, whether it be
dry skin, blemishes, or excess oil. Best sellers include Foaming
Facial Cleanser, Skin Serum, and Facial Moisturizing Lotion from
Manuka Doctor’s ApiClear line, and Rejuvenating Face Mask and
Rejuvenating Skin Cream from Manuka Doctor’s ApiNourish line.
Manuka Doctor products only recently became available
in the United States, and can be purchased online.

FF - Born in Pennsylvania to English and
Art Professors how did coming from such an
academic background affect your childhood
and life choices?
LH - Priority in my house growing up was
education. Consequently I was an avid reader.
I’m sure that cultivating my imagination in that
way helped prepare me to be a better actor.
I think my path may boil down, though, to two
defining experiences in my life that occurred
because of my learned parents. The first was
living abroad when I was twelve, and the
second was choosing Sarah Lawrence to go
to college. If it wasn’t for these two events,
I’m not sure I would have ended up becoming
an actress.
FF - As a fashion magazine, many of our
readers are aspiring models (which in some
ways is similar to acting). How long did it take
for you to get your big break? And what jobs
did you have to take to support yourself?
LH - I was very fortunate. I did my first
movie when I was a senior in college, and
started working fairly steadily within a
couple of months of graduation. Still, I had to
supplement my income for a bit. Besides a
nightshift job in a vegetable canning factory,
I also did about every job you could do in the
restaurant business.
FF - Who is your go-to designer for Awards
season and Formal occasions?
LH - I have always loved Valentino, Dolce,
and Armani. Since living in Canada, I have
discovered my new fav, Stephan Caras.
FF - We understand Alexander, your oldest,
has recently joined you as an actor. What tips
did you share with him in his ventures?
LH - AZER, it is the way he said his name
(Alexander) when he first started speaking,
and it stuck. Tips: Do it if you love it, and
you are willing to work hard. Don’t take ‘no’
personally, it won’t be about you, but only
about who you are trying to play. This business
can wreak havoc with your self esteem.
FF - Has living and raising children in
Illinois away from Hollywood changed your
personal style?
LH - I actually have been raising my boys
in Toronto, Canada. I wanted to live and work in
a big city that was close to where I grew up in
upstate New York. I think my personal style has
gotten more relaxed because of it. I’m a busy
Mom, and I never think about where paparazzi
might be hiding like I did when I lived in LA. It’s
all about ease and comfort.
Lauren HollyLauren Holly

Lauren Holly
FF - What other specific projects do you
have in the works?
LH - Currently I’m working on the CTV/ABC
series MOTIVE. We just finished shooting our
second season. I think my hiatus is going to be
a busy one as I’m in the middle of negotiating
for roles in two feature films.
FF - Your historical role in the award-winning docu-drama, Field of Lost Shoes, tells of Confederate soldiers who embark on “friendship, duty and love of country.” Having portrayed a historical female figure from the Civil War era, in what ways do these three motives propel you as a modern woman? What do you find worth fighting for?
LH - Freedom. For all. We are so lucky
to have it.
FF - In the emotive role as Ruth Elliott in the
film, Hoovey, share with our readers how this
true story impacted the relationship with your
own children?
LH - I’m so excited about this movie.
It is such an inspiring story. So many of us have
dealt with challenges in our lives, and medical
and financial ones are debilitating and all too
common. I’m also proud that this movie can be
enjoyed by the whole family. Kids will love it as
much as their parents.
FF - Is there a role you wish you had taken
or been offered?
LH - Over the years, hundreds of them!
Luckily I don’t obsess too much after the no, and
usually understand the choice as soon as
I see the finished product.
FF - With such a dynamic portfolio ranging from fictional comedies to real life dramas, what methods do you practice to prepare for such vigorous roles? Which do you find the most challenging?
LH - I do seem to bounce around a lot! I think I just throw myself in. It’s that imagination. If there is research to do, I am voracious. Otherwise I just concoct my own history. My job is so fun!
FF - Woman of Camelot, Ethel Kennedy (Robert “Bobby” Kennedy’s widow), lived her life in the political spotlight with her husband and eleven children. How do you best balance the Hollywood spotlight with regard to your own family? How do you best prioritize the organized chaos of personal balance plus career?
LH - You said it, “organized chaos.” We are always busy, always on the move. Actors are like carnies, traveling from set to set. Fortunately, my boys love the experiences, and easily go back and forth between ‘real’ life and my fanciful one. It is all they have known.

FF - The irony of your early role in “All My Children” bears the elaboration on your current role as adoptive mother of “The Three Kings.” Kindly share a bit about the devotion and commitment to your children.
LH - It is simple, they are everything to me. Each of them is so different, my most important job is to foster their individuality. I was ready for kids in that I was ready to be unselfish. The biggest surprise is that I’m realizing that we are also going to be great friends.
FF - As a spokesperson for Susan Lucci’s “Youthful Essence” infomercial, how have you applied this and other beauty knowledge to your daily regimen? What are some of your preferred cosmetic and skincare products and services?
LH - I don’t have a lot of time for pampering, so I’m all about preventative stuff. I try to be healthy, because I think beauty comes from within. I became such a big fan of a line of health products that I got involved in the business. LaurenHolly.vemma.com. Check it out. My CRAZE at the moment is ‘Renew.’ Incredibly tasty, and so good for my hair, skin,
and nails. We use ALL the products in my
house, and now all my friends do too!
FF - How did you develop the internal ability to play such diverse roles as Dr. Betty Rogers, Bruce Lee’s wife, Mary Swanson, Ethel Kennedy and others? What sensory, emotional or psychological faculty allows you to tap into performing these characters best?
LH - Not sure. Be good if I could bottle it! I think I’m back to my imagination…LOL.
FF - May I say, “Thank you for the laughs” in your memorable and entertaining role in Dumb and Dumber (a personal favorite!). Can you highlight a special recollection from the production of this iconic film? #highfive
LH - It was as much fun making it. So many laughs. We filmed over two long weekends- Memorial Day and July 4th. Both times a huge group of cast and crew rented houseboats on Lake Powell. Swimming, BarBQ, star-gazing, and tons more laughs. #goodtimes
FF - Of your many landed auditions, which favored character were you most proud to portray? #proudestmoment
LH - Maybe the most memorable was for a CBS series called ‘The Antagonists.’ It was for the lead, and it was my first time to audition for an auditorium of network executives. I was so scared, and so unbelievably excited when I got it. It was the beginning of so much...

FF - You once stated in an interview, “…No one is born a supermodel.
Practice your posing and facial expressions until you can nail each shot effortlessly.”
What was something that took a lot of practice starting out as a model that you can now do effortlessly?
JC - EVERYTHING took a lot of practice when I was first starting. I didn’t know how to pose or what to do
with my face, and it showed in my pictures. Looking a little closer at the models’ expressions and how their
bodies moved in the magazines I read, I practiced different looks in the mirror. Granted I looked like a dork, but
it helped as I memorized the angles my face looked best. I watched videos of models on YouTube. Eventually
I could take a headshot with perfection. It took me forever to learn how to pose with my body so that I looked
long and lean. After practicing and shooting for about a year, I felt like I could do everything in my sleep.

FF - What would you consider to be your best feature? What do you do to take care of and maintain it?
JC - My best feature is my skin! I spend a lot of time babying it. It’s super dry, very sensitive and needs a
lot of TLC. I wear sunscreen anytime I go outside, and put on a light coat of body oil on as soon as I get
out of the shower to lock the moisture in. Otherwise, I pay for it all day with tight, itchy skin. At night I use
a cleansing oil to wash my face and slap on some argan oil while its still wet to keep it soft overnight.

a year since I was 16, and people still ask me if I’m in high school!
My dad had serious skin cancer as a young man so I was a freak
about applying it everyday, even during the winter months. As a
bonus, I still look relatively young and therefore more marketable
as a model. I like Neutrogena Age Shield Face SPF 100+ because
it doesn’t make my skin oily.
FF - What does modeling do for you (mentally, spiritually,
physically, etc.) that makes you want to keep achieving more
in that industry?
JC - Modeling is a way for me to get creative. I’ve met a lot of cool
people and close friends from some of the work I’ve done. That’s the
best part. In real life I’m quiet, and working with others helps me open
up and not be such a dork all the time. I like getting crazy with all the
clothes and makeup and having the opportunity to travel.

FF - You’ve been all around the world. What has been
your favorite location to shoot in? Please share about some
of the most memorable places you have travelled to!
JC - It’s impossible to pick a favorite place. I had a
great time working in Iceland with Maxim photographer,
Arnold Bjornsson. One of the pictures ended up on the
front page of the national newspaper, and their editor
called to interview me and published it! I visited some
awesome natural wonders of the country and I’ll never
forget it. Also, I worked with an agency in China for
a summer which was tough, but I got to visit almost
every Asian country in the process. Asia is simply an
insanely neat, cheap place to visit; it’s a must-see.
FF - From your blog, you clearly seem to enjoy poetry and travel.
What would you want to do instead of modeling given these interests?
JC - My dream as a kid was to be a librarian because I loved
reading and quiet places. Something I still love today. My life plan
is to move to Hawaii and be a surfer!
FF - You stated on your blog that when you travel, you should keep
a journal and write down all of the interesting things you think or hear
while traveling. What are some of your favorite excerpts from
your travel journal?
JC - I get a kick out of reading some of the first things I wrote.
On my first trip overseas I brought three huge suitcases. Now I only
bring a carryon. I made lists of things I wish I had brought, all the dumb
jokes I heard, the weird stuff I ate or saw, the people that I met and the
fun times we had together. I pick a few songs for each trip and listen to
them a million times at my destination. Now every time I hear them
I remember where I was and what I was doing.

FF - Are you currently with an agency or freelance?
JC - I’ve worked with three agencies in the past but
now I’m freelance. The first time I was signed I was so
excited! I felt like I had “made it” as a model. Having
a status as an agency girl boosted my confidence and
opened more doors for me. Since I’ve had a lot of work
and networking experience in the past few years I’m
able to keep myself busy as a freelance model.
FF - Is there anything else you would prefer to share
about yourself and your professional experiences?
JC - If you’re starting out as a model, have fun with it.
Keep your wits about you. Keep your clothes on for the
first year. Shoot with everyone you can. Ask other people
who they liked working with. Ask for references when
you’re shooting with a stranger for the first time. Reach
out to photographers and models that you love. Realize
that the modeling industry is small and that everything
you do and say will be repeated and discussed. Keep
the diva behavior at home. Learn how to do your own
basic makeup and hair.
The fashion and modeling industry is not particularly
glamorous: the physical standards are grueling and
at times you are only a disposable product. Someone
is always going to be taller and prettier. Surrounding
yourself with friends and normal people is crucial to
your sanity. Keep your mind and body strong and
keep smiling. Work hard and stay humble!
FF - Tell us your top 5 favorite music artists?
JC - AVICII, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Bonobo,
and Justin Bieber.
FF - These are few of your favorite things… (list)
JC - Pizza, reading, Pinkberry yogurt, my electric
blanket, subscription beauty boxes by mail,
swimming and shopping at Target.
FF - When do you feel the happiest?
JC - I feel the happiest when mom and dad tell
me they are proud of me.
FF - We are curious about your connection with
Beauty Bundles by Beholder EL...
JC - I’m a spokesmodel for Beauty Bundles
premium hair extensions which is located in DC,
my hometown. The company that makes them is a
one-stop beauty shop. They do makeup, hair and
wardrobe styling for magazine shoots and big events
on the East Coast.

ight around Christmas 2013, I had followed up with a doctor’s ordered mammogram after feeling some pin prick pains in my breast that just didn’t seem right. As women, I believe our bodies tell us when something’s not right and we MUST listen!
Well, my mammo came back positive and they ordered a biopsy which determined I had cancer. I knew I initially had a “CHOICE” as to how to respond to this thing, so went into my design studioand got to work! I started designing and styling, then called my team together and we created!

“ he Choice” came to life! It is my artistic processing of the emotion of
receiving the diagnosis. I made the decision to leave the negative
behind and move through boldly into HOPE & Faith!
The care I have received from the medical teams has been phenomenal!
The network of friends going through the same thing, the survivors and
those passionate about beating Cancer’s ass…I gravitate towards!
Support is #1 but it still doesn’t make the process of surgeries,
radiation therapy and years of monitoring any easier.

FF - When did you know you had a passion
for telling stories through pictures?
EG - My passion for the photography form of
storytelling goes back to my wanting to be apart
of the art world. I have always enjoyed art and have
known it was something I wanted to pursue since
second grade, when I declined going to recess in
order to draw or take photos of my friends as we
played dress up. When I got to high school my
dad lent me his 35 MM camera, and with his
support I continued taking pictures of my friends
on a more professional level. After that, my love
of photography really started to flourish. I took as
many art classes and photography classes as I
could in college, and expanded my experience
from there. It was through experimentation and
play that lead me to fully develop my passion
for photography.
FF - Where do fashion and photography meet?
EG - Fashion meets photograph in the conceptual
stages for me. Brainstorming, coming up with ideas
and scenarios for different visuals are not only a lot
of fun, but it’s where I work to match the fashion with
the photographic style and process. It’s where my
creativity and what I want the final product to be
make contact, and physically manifest the idea.
72 fashionfacesmag.com #FFAPR14 |
True Cinderella
FF - What is your favorite part of photographing someone?
EG - My favorite part of photographing someone is when
I can really capture the essence of who they are. No matter
what my subject matter is or what situation the person is in;
to get emotion on film is a beautiful thing. A person's eyes,
their gestures, the subtle lifting at the corner of their mouths,
the way a hand may flare slightly up, etc. The essence is in
the details and capturing them is beyond rewarding.
FF - You do slight airbrushing on some of your photography.
What are the upsides and downsides to airbrushing to you?
EG - Airbrushing and retouching will always be apart of
this industry. I think that it has a lot of upsides. In my work,
I exercise the positives by streamlining it aesthetically;
making the photographs flow easily. I do my best to have
my adjustments look natural, primarily smoothing skin and
bulges. It’s possible to use retouching to simply polish the
image, and that is often my goal. The downsides to air-
brushing are when people tend to overdo it. It’s too easy to
go overboard and make something completely unrealistic
and glaringly obvious. That’s wrong! Skin so smooth that
it’s shiny just doesn’t make since. It will always look odd.
FF - What about working in Chicago enhances your work?
EG - Living in Chicago greatly enhances my practice! It’s
ten times easier to get my hands on all kinds of resources
from equipment, to food, to all kinds of crazy props and
materials. My location also makes it easier for my teams
and models to come to the studio. When I shoot on location,
there are endless amounts of places/setting I can go to.
FF - What is your favorite part of photographing someone?
EG - My favorite part of photographing someone is when
I can really capture the essence of who they are. No matter
what my subject matter is or what situation the person is in;
to get emotion on film is a beautiful thing. A person’s eyes,

“I designed the aesthetic of the shoot around the color palettes and textures found in the fabrics...” - Emily Gualdoni
True Cinderella
77fashionfacesmag.com | #FFAPR14
FF - The shoot “True Cinderella”
is a Marie Antoinette meets fairy tale.
What was your inspiration behind this?
EG - A lot of thought went into my
“True Cinderella” shoot. The inspiration
primarily came from the designer,
Rachel Sarah Goldberg of Thanatos
Couture, who made the garments.
She was primarily influenced by
the Rococo Movement of the 18th
century. Combing the fantastical
elements of what happens in the
original Cinderella story by the
Brothers Grimm, with this beautiful
artistic movement resulted in her
stunning designs. They are truly
some of the most interesting and
beautiful garments I’ve ever seen.
Naturally, they were my inspiration.
I designed the aesthetic of the shoot
around the color palettes and textures
found in the fabrics, and I am very
happy with the way it all turned out.

True Cinderella
FF - The Cinderella character has
this elegance and regal aura about her.
What made you want to portray
Cinderella, after the rags?
EG - She was portrayed as regal,
because throughout the entire story
she is a character with a pure heart
whose worthy of the princess she
becomes. It’s not only more fitting
to the narrative to portray her that way,
but it’s also a lot more fun. This is not
only my perspective to portray her
in this light, the designer made the
dress to embody all of the magic
that Cinderella represents.
FF - We at Fashion Faces love
the way the “True Cinderella” shoot
tells a story. Out of all the types of
photography you are doing, which
is your favorite?
EG - Editorial Creative Fashion
shoots have always been, and will
always be my favorites to shoot. I love
having unlimited freedom with my work.
In a creative editorial I can tell any
story, with any model, wearing any-
thing, with any makeup, in any setting,
with any props. The ability to unleash
unbridled creativity into a project is
something I'll cherish forever. I will
always make work that I can express
something with in this manner.

he first time I saw Gianni Versace’s 1990
Summer/Spring collection I knew that fashion
was something worth capturing. I want my

feeling, just like what I felt when viewing
this line for the first time.
The inspiration behind the “Without/Permit”
shoot came from Luc Besson’s “Angel-A”.
I felt that the shoot reflected perfectly the
mood he was portraying in his story. It’s
images of a beautiful woman running away
from her broken heart, an angel fallen from
another place, a woman not free to love.
I love using New York’s landscape for my

rt Meets Architecture & Graphic Design! Get Ready USA! The first COS flagship store will open in NYC this spring!
First let’s get my final word on London Fashion Week out ofthe way! As is usual these days with such events, it passed
without trace’! Loud flashy and mediocre in the extreme, it thrilled only the credulous and dim! Disappointing for me were the Korean designers, whom I had very much looked forward to seeing, as on a recent trip to Korea, I had seen
some wonderful examples of extremely original Korean design! Sadly none of these were on show in London,
and all the Korean designers on show during LFW, were a sad flashy artless ‘Lady Gaga-esque’ mish mash of other peoples ideas from the past! All were products
of London based fashion schools! And none had any style or originality of their own!

Having said this, let us now move to something genuinely cool original and interesting! And it’s called Sweden!
All of you who perceive me as some sort of ‘cutting edge style gangster’, always ready to sink my teeth into the bloated buttocks of the fashion industry, and punish it for its mediocrity and unoriginality! And only ‘bigging up’ the ‘cool cutting edge and terminally arty!’ May find it somewhat incongruous, to now find me this month lavishing praise on what is effectively a ‘high street multiple’! COS though is like no multiple you have ever seen! Being both effortlessly cool and wonderfully arty! The COS brands excellent good taste incredibly affordable good quality and superb sense of style, puts the COS way ahead of the game! And certainly leaves 99% of ‘A List’ designer brands looking extremely tacky vulgar and overpriced by comparison!
A cool edgy quirky minimalist alchemy that very cleverly mixes Scandinavian minimalist Kool! With an artful dash of Yohji Yamamto, a touch of ‘vintage’ Prada (before it lost the plot!) and a dash of ‘vintage’ Hemut Lang (before he also lost it!).
Sweden is considered to be perhaps the most civilised and best educated country in the world! With the highest standard of living and certainly the best quality of life!

he Swedish/Scandinavian design aesthetic is famous
throughout the world for its technical simplicity and
pure ultra kool perfect functional minimal aesthetic
and mastery of style.
In Sweden they don’t waste time on meaningless retro
or pointless over decoration! This is considered cheap
vulgar and unintelligent! The classic Bauhaus ethic of
Walter Gropius, the brilliant, visionary and even today
hugely influential pre war German designer’s ‘Form
Follows Function’! Is something that has not been
forgotten in the brilliance and purity of Scandinavian
design! Indeed, in Sweden and Denmark, it could almost
be said that they are ‘genetically incapable’ of bad taste!
(Unless they have been drinking that is! When the ‘Inner
Viking’ will often manifest itself!).
Sweden, indeed he whole of Scandinavia has, like
everywhere else, a ‘dark side’! There are in the winter
very long dark nights with little daylight! This often leads
to a (sometimes delicious) brooding melancholy! But also
to a certain thoughtfulness, which can and indeed does
lead to the creation of excellence in design!
Not only with extremely cool stylish wearable affordable
and extremely functional fashion! But also with brilliant
innovative and globally successful music production!
And now with the most incredible brilliant and addictive
‘Scandi-Noir Crime Series’ for TV! Such as the brilliant
Wallender, and way out ahead of the rest the incredible
‘Bridge’! Sweden/Denmark, are showing the rest of
the world how it’s done when it comes to addictively
hypnotic drama! The Bridge though has been a global
cult phenomenon! Dark brooding and in every sense
addictive! It features a Swedish Policewoman called
‘Saga’, who is now a global cult figure, and has pushed
the sales of leather pants by 100%!
COS clothing is a reflection of the entire alchemy and
philosophy that make up the cool minimalist brilliance
of Swedish/Scandinavian fashion design! Imagine the
best of Scandinavian pure minimalist kool, meets Yohji
Yamamotos, Japanese Ultra Cool ‘Zen Styling’! And you
have the flavour and essential alchemy of COS!

Seriously 21st Century Modernist, with no negative retro influences! COS is the ultimate
destination for the more intelligent sophisticated Women (of any age) with taste, who want
that cool intelligent very continental European minimalist styling! Cos is thankfully absolutely
not ‘rock n roll’! It is not flashy trashy or vulgar, and is an indicator of what the modern stylish
intelligent Woman really wants to wear! Rather than the often rather nasty over decorated
‘trash and flash’ that most brands and designers keep throwing into the fashion circus!

hat makes COS even more interesting,
is that in many respects, it is not ‘fashion’! It’s far
to cool for that! And totally transcends the tacky
dis-information that is the world of fashion and
trends, by being as far a style and design is
concerned, pretty much perfect, and
ridiculously affordable!
Equally fascinating, is that COS is not a high-
end ultra pricey designer brand! Indeed it does
not see itself as ‘a brand’ as such! (Again, far to
cool for that!) It is in fact, part of the H&M group,
but has no resemblance to H&M whatsoever!
Equally remarkable is that COS is in a sense
a ‘chain store’, with branches in all the key
major cities of Europe, from London to Berlin!
However the COS cool tasteful minimalist
design architecture, make it totally unlike
any chain store you have ever seen!
The big news for the USA, is that the first
American flagship store, will be opening in
New York City, this spring! And the Cool Stylish
Europhobic New Yorkers, are certain to go wild
for it! Again this will certainly be enhanced
by the irresistible affordability of the brilliant
and 100% must have Women’s range! So
get ready USA! Scandinavian Euro Kool
is coming! And you’re gonna love it!
COS opened their first UK store about five years ago!
And it was an instant hit! Certainly with my girlfriend
who would (and indeed still does!) descend on our
nearby COS branch on Kensington High Street and
come home heavily laden with new purchases!
(Even the bags are cool by the way!)
The only slight criticism I can find to make, is of the
slightly ‘normal’ lacklustre quality of the COS Mens-
wear Range! It really is rather disappointing, certainly
in comparison to the excellence of the Womenswear!
It’s all very ‘nice’ tasteful, cool, stylish, minimal, and
well made! But for me far to ‘normal lad’! And lacks
that certain cool edgy quirkiness of the Woman’s
collection! What should happen is, that many of the
Women’s garments (tops/knits etc) should also be
produced in XXXL men’s sizes! There is in fact a huge
demand for this amongst ‘boys’, (something the COS
head of design seem entirely unaware off!) who seeing
the extremely cool stuff their wives, and girlfriends are
buying from COS, desperately try to force themselves
into the larger, but still not large enough girls tops!
My criticism of ‘COS Boys’ though is perhaps a
criticism of menswear in general! (Other than Ian
Batten, Yohji Yamamoto (but not the dreadful Y3) and
the odd couple of Belgium’s!) And compared to most
other Men Collections, COS Boys Trans-Europa Kool’!
Is way out ahead, and again exceptionally well made
and affordable!
One extra tip! When floating off to your COS store to
max out your credit card (which you will undoubtedly
do!) Always buy two sizes larger then you normally
take! COS looks extremely cool when work a little
loose and floppy! And tight and fitted is sooo over
now anyway! Just like high heels! (Unless they are
the Trippen Japanese style wedge blocks!)
So wave goodbye to over decoration! And get ready
for Scandinavian Minimalist Kool! The return of good
taste and style! And importantly a clothing brand that
is living in the 21st Century and empowers, rather
than objectifies Women!

I became interested in photography when I got my first
camera at sixteen. I had no idea how to use it. In the
beginning it was frustrating, because the results were
disappointing most of the time. When I left high school,
I went on to study photography and different camera
techniques. I practiced everyday!
I really admire the works of Lina Tesch and Emily Soto.
They both have very unique and different styles. Tesch’s
work is dark and provoking, and Soto’s work is very
dreamy and full of images. I looked and continue
to look to them, because they have achieved so much
in the industry and always stay true to their style.
I want my work to show the beauty of the small things
that surround us everyday. I want people to be inspired
by simple things and be happy.
For me fashion photography is a genre that allows you
to be creative, and leaves you room for ideas and stories.
Plus I love fashion and the ever-changing trends that
comes with it. Combining clothing and colors, and
making them fit in my pictures is always interesting.
Everyone wants to take a photo that is special and
different from everything that has already been done
before. While in the preparing and discussing stage
of my shoots I like to get to know the model. When you
do this you can better capture his/her personality. I love
to shoot models that have a flair to them, and not just fit
into the mold of what is expected. While we are on set
I want them to feel as comfortable as possible and have
fun. A shoot is a team effort; you get better results when
everyone is at ease and on the same page.

Currently most of my plans and dreams are centered on
my career. However, I would love to travel around the world
and see all the magnificent places I have not yet been able
to see. I have dreams of seeing polar lights in Norway or
learning how to surf in Hawaii. But above all, I just want
to be happy and surrounded by the people I love.
- Laura Pearl, Photographer
“ ading Memories” was shot in Soest, Germany at a giant
and colorfully fun fairground. I chose that place because it
underlines my idea that as we grow up, we lose all of the
lightheartedness we had as a child. Children are creative,
fearless and full of fantasy. We lose this perception more with
age. The fun fair with its carousels and candy shops reminds
me of the carefree childhoods we used to have, and how easy
it was to be impressed by something. The memories of all this
slowly fade away and if we do not remind ourselves of it.

THE BOLDAND THE BEAUTIFUL
I am very interested in the world of fashion, thanks to my family...especially my sister, Olatz.
She always liked to take my pictures and said that I was photogenic. Olatz took the first photos
of me and encouraged me to try my luck in the agencies. Over the years, while I was travelling
in Berlin, Germany my friend, Aitor Auzmendi, (photographer and film camera) created my first
photo shoot. He’s been involved in all that I have been doing since and has always supported
my growth as a model.
Five years ago I started working in the South of Spain (Caños de Meca, Cádiz), taking the
summer season in restaurants as a cook (El Arriate, El Dorado and La Jaima). My first trip
to Morocco (with friend, Mikel) had millions of adventures that you can read in one year
(because I am writing the book now) where we lived very intensely; as we were held for
thirty hours in a hostel, went for Ramadam, saw the desert, swindled police, climbed
the highest mountain of the country, etc...

Last year was special for me. I met my girlfriend, Rebeca, when I
was chef in La Jaima (Cadiz). After just 15 days, I proposed she
go with us again to visit India, Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam,
Philippines and China. When we returned, Rebeca and I moved
to Madrid, Spain where both she and my family (especially my
mother) convinced me to sign up with an agency.
Thanks to them, in less than a year I managed to fulfill my dream
of being a model. Thanks to my family (specifically, my MOTHER),
Nerea, Erika, Olatz, Roberto (who is my particular photographer
with Andrée), and especially Rebecca. They advised and
encouraged me that every day is not the last. I am pausing
with fashion for five months to get back to the kitchen of the
restaurant, Arriate Lounge & Bar in Ibiza, Spain.

he following years we desired to fly further,
so we traveled to Asia to tour countries like
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo and
Brunei. This took us one full year with a
knapsack on our backs, so we could
tell you a thousand and one stories!
To simplify, I say all you need to put in your
backpack are just four things; Passport,
credit cards, cash, a pencil and paper.
You don’t need anything else to really get
to know a country. The rest will teach to you.
We have to see what’s there outside, because
we need to know what’s inside. Its good to
read books, listen to stories, watching movies,
documentaries, etc... But honestly, only you
can really see when you look with your eyes.

This make-up I’ve made up with Aqua Colors of Eulenspiegel. I was surprised how well you can work with normal “children’s paint.” Luckily, model and photographer were so patient! It has taken time to paint the flowers in detail. In the selection of the model I made use of the beautiful skin and bright eyelashes and eyebrows that do not distract from the subject.
#flowerpower

This shoot took place in the freezing cold and rain. We had almost an hour in the car to wait until the rain stopped and we were able to move out. The hair style has withstood the weather. Only the lips of the models from time to time had to be refreshed (see Making-of). Shoots with photographer Andrea Hübner are always great because they make very evocative images and we often have similar taste.

This shoot was another joint project with the Photographer, Andrea Hübner. For this I have one
tailored the outfit itself for the first time. I had love at first sight with the checked fabric. To make the look a little more feminine,
I had worked with the top. Hair and makeup I have used accordingly with the outfit. Model Hannah
has a beautiful profile, so the lateral portraits in this series are my favorites.

urne One may have just had it’s debut show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014
FTL moda + art hearts fashion presentation, but fashion designer, Furne Amato, is far
from a newbie to the fashion world. His brand, Amato Haute Couture, has been in high demand
for years. His ability to think outside of the box while skillfully designing extravagant and artistic
couture has been celebrated world wide. When asked where he gains is inspiration from Furne
answers with this, “I often find myself basing my designs on six constants: movies, music, vintage images, gothic art, books and plays.”
Furne was mesmerized by fashion from an early age having inherited his mother and
grandmother’s passion for beautiful clothes and began sketching at the age of ten.
Originally from the Philippines, Furne One’s first stride into the fashion world saw him win the MEGA Magazine Young Designer of the
Philippines Award in 1994; a competition judged by key fashion players including Josie Natori. In
2002, Furne opened his first boutique, Amato, meaning “beloved,” in Dubai to provide his elite
clientele with an unrivaled array of hand-stitched designs and intricately detailed creations. Known
for his creative flair, Furne’s design credentials soon saw him inundated with offers for his work.

Natori saw Furne’s talent and offered him an apprenticeship at his New York design house. It was here that Furne was able to further explore and indulge his passion for fashion. In the same year, Furne also won the first prize at Japan’s Women’s Wear Awards and just three years later he went on went on to become a finalist at Manila’s Fashion Designer Awards.

fter following the rise of the Amato success, in 2007, Swarovski commissioned Furne to design a glittering bridal dress which featured in their limited edition book, Unbridled.
Furne’s collaboration with Swarovski did not end there, and he has since partnered with the brand to produce show-stopping collections for its Crystalized Swarovski Elements events.
In 2008 Furne’s imaginative creations caught the eye of the European fashion elite at Germany’s Next Top Model and he was invited to be a special guest designer in the shows
season finale with supermodel Heidi Klum. The tremendous response to his collections resulted in a reprise of this role for the following three years, a move which rocketed
Furne One and Amato Couture onto the international fashion centre stage.

When asked about the keys to his success, Furne shares that it’s about diligence. “Hard work and diligence. But, you know, there are so many talented designers everywhere so I think you also need a little luck. Being in the right place at the right time. I was lucky.” he said with a smile.
