From the Principal…..
Planning is currently underway for our Education Week Showcase ‘Spectacular’ which will be held on Thursday the 8th of August at Forbes High School Hall. The format will be similar to our last such event in 2017, with performances from every class, our choirs and our dance troupes. We are also hoping to unearth some brave and talented individuals who are prepared to hold the spotlight on their own!
Keep an eye out for the promotional posters that will soon be on display. These will tell you how to access tickets for this popular event.
Have a great week! Steve McAlister Principal

Thursday 30th May at 10:30 in the Hall.
Year 3 to Year 6 students will participate in the FNPS Spelling Bee (those students who entered). The winners from each year will then attend the Premiers Spelling Bee held later in the year.
All are welcome.
HEALTHY HAROLD IS COMING TO FORBES NORTH
He will be here from Wednesday 19th June to Tuesday 25th June. We thank Northparkes Mine again for supporting the LEV visit to our school. For those who have not paid the VSC the cost to participate is $5.00 per student, payable to the school by no later than Friday June 7th. A note was sent home yesterday with a merchandise order form attached.
CHOOKS We are looking for donations of grain and hay for the chooks! If you can help out by donating please contact the school office.
P&C MOTHERS DAY STALL
Thank you to everyone who supported our Mother’s Day Stall. The students loved shopping for something special and we hope you all enjoyed your gifts! Extra thanks to Mrs O’Brien and Spencer & Hartwig for their kind donations. Also to Lin Samson, Karen Knight and Lucy Pearce for their assistance on the day. We raised a little over $1500 for our school! Kate Bilsborough
Kitchen News This week the 5/6 classes are bringing their detective skills into the kitchen and investigating how different ingredients can change the outcome of a recipe. One group has the control batch of cupcakes while the other four groups have to leave out a different ingredient – then they get to sample the results! As the lesson is linked to their science unit, Change Detectives, the students make predictions for each batch and then document the outcome. Thanks Mrs Gartner for putting it altogether!!
HEAD LICE ALERT – There have been a number of cases of head lice reported recently, please check your child’s hair regularly.
In some exciting news the people from Musica Viva have offered to perform a concert - The March of the Fire Ants - for the students of Forbes North PS this Thursday May 23rd. There will be NO COST for students to attend the performance, which will be held in the school hall at 9:30 am. The Musica Viva website describes this performance as:
"A fantastic musical world is brought to life by Australian composer Paul Kopetz. Students will discover music that depicts the inhabitants of the fire tree, including jet fighter lorikeets, swarming fire ants and machine-like cicadas, demonstrated by sounds of the cello, clarinet, voice and keyboard. Performed by ensemble Entourage, this engaging performance paints a vivid and immersive picture of the Australian backyard."
This is a great opportunity for our students and we look forward to the performance!
Families Week Movie Night
How lovely to see so many families come along to see Incredibles II on Friday night at Forbes North School Hall. Around 100 children and families attended and the Forbes Youth Action Team (FYAT) sold more popcorn than they have ever sold at a movie night. Thank you to Kate Bilsborough for organising and to the many helpers who stayed behind to help clean up. We hope to make our movie night an annual event.

On Wednesday 15th May Junior school K-2 Students attended a free concert by the Gigalees to celebrate Families Week at the town hall. All students had a fabulous time and were very entertained by the funny duo- Wilma and Daisy. We were even lucky enough to have some of our students and even Mrs Welsh go up on stage.
Art club Last week we had our first lunch time art club on Wednesday, this will be a weekly lunch club where students in year 2-6 will be able to create art and craft to be displayed around the school. The students enjoyed making peg butterflies and bottle flowers last week. Please keep collecting bottle tops as we will be making murals and other crafts with these over Term 2 and 3. Thanks Mrs Obrien
