Current Condition ReportEvaluation focuses on 5 frequent sources of hurricane-related losses:
• The roof:• Sheathing and roof covering• Attic ventilation systems
• Openings• Gable ends over 4’ in height• Attached structures (porches and carports)• Continuous load path connections
Select the Designation Level –Options available for all price points
Choosing a Designation Tier
• Tier 1:
• Tier 2:
Tier 1 – Bronze & Silver• Easier and less costly to inspect• Almost all homes can attain these designations
without major intrusion and disruption
• Bronze:– Focus is on roof– Best results and least costly when someone is re-
roofing
• Silver:– Focus is on opening protection, gable ends and
attached structures such as porches
Tier 2 - Gold
• More difficult and costly to inspect• Easiest to achieve for homes that:
– Have been engineered or built to engineering based high wind standards such as WFCM or SSTD-10
– Are undergoing substantial renovation or are being re-built after a disaster.
Set Expectations
• Most homes will require some measure of improvement to achieve a designation.
• Some benefits will be immediate (credits), while others will be less tangible.
• ROI will vary from owner to owner.
FORTIFIED Bronze • Goal: Minimal damage and
loss in Category 1 storm
• Basic Requirement – Limit damage to roof and related water intrusion
• Two Options• Without re-roofing (roof
covering is not being replaced)
• Re-roofing (replace the roof covering)
Bronze Two Options
• Option 1 – When not re-roofing (Roof cover is in good condition with a number of years of useful life expectancy)– Tile or Metal roofs in good condition– Shingle roof that is less than 10 years old
• Option 2 – When re-roofing
Bronze Option 1: Two Part Closed Cell Polyurethane Foam Adhesive
Bronze Options 1 and 2: Improve the anchorage of gable end outlookers
Bronze Options 1 and 2: Soffit failure
Bronze Options 1 and 2: Gable vent retrofit
FORTIFIED Silver
Goal: Minimal damage and loss in Category 2 storm
√ All Level 1 Hurricane requirements (Options 1 or 2) completed plus;
• Provide protection for glazed openings• Protect entry doors from failures due to wind
pressure or debris impact• Protect garage doors from wind pressure• Strengthen gable ends over 4-feet tall (wall
members and anchorage at top and bottom)• Improve anchorage of attached structures (carports
and porches)
