Good News Reflection 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time November 5, 2017 Malachi 1:14b-2:2b, 8-10 Ps 131:1-3 1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13 Matthew 23:1-12 Equally loved, equally important Today's Gospel reading contains a verse that, when taken literally, has been used by some Protestants to condemn Catholicism because we call our priests "Father." To understand what Jesus means in this scripture, we need to read the whole passage: This singled-out verse is actually part of a teaching about equality. He is telling us that we must not consider anyone to be superior to ourselves -- no one but God is superi-or to us. Jesus says here: "The greatest among you must be your servant." At other times in other scriptures, Jesus says that if we want to be greatest, we have to be the servant of all, because we must not think of ourselves as superior to others. But in today's lesson he's telling us not to think of ourselves as inferior, either. He trying to cure our low self-esteem. Do you know, for example, that as a person you are not inferior to the pope? This is why he's called the serv-ant of the servants of God. As Christ's representative in Church leadership, he serves us in everything he does, whether it's presiding at Mass or writing a Church document or making authoritative decisions. No matter what someone's credentials are, no matter how much authority God has given to our priests and other Church leaders, and no matter how rich or famous or well-liked anyone is, we are all equally loved by God. We're all equally important to God. To see our worth, we must learn to see ourselves through God's eyes. Questions for Personal Reflection: Do you feel served by those who have higher status? Why or why not? When you don't, how much of this is your own attitude of assuming that you're inferior? What will you do to shift your thinking and accept your own value according to God's perspective? Questions for Community Faith Sharing: When someone's job or talents or position in the family or church seems greater than yours, how do you overcome your feelings of inferiority? How does Jesus convey to you that you are inferior to no one? Describe a time when you felt inferior but then became aware of your equal value. (This story will help others who are struggling to overcome their own feelings of inferiority. © 2017 Terry Modica, Catholic Digital Resources, www.catholicdr.com. Impreso con derechos.

31er.

© 2017 Terry Modica, Catholic Digital Resources, www.catholicdr.com. Impreso con derechos.

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

the measure of its spiritual life and its faith, of its charity and its virtue.” (Saint Peter Julian Eymard)

NOTES FROM THE LITURGIST…

Watch… Wait…and Open

The month of the Rosary is over. I just want to thank you all for all your efforts, your participation and for giving your time to pray the Holy Rosary and visiting our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in our Per-petual Adoration Chapel here at St. Mary’s (The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish).

During the Mass, at the moment of the consecration, the gifts that we offer, the bread and wine, are transformed (transubstantiated) in-to the true Body and Blood of Christ. This means that they are not only spiritually transformed, but rather are actually (substantially) transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. The elements retain the appearance of bread and wine, but are indeed the actual Body and Blood of Christ. This is what is meant by Real Presence: the actual, physical presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Visiting and praying before the Blessed Sacrament is very essential in our faith. As catholic, we believe the presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Visiting the Blessed Sacrament is the time of adoring and honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. When we come to a deeper sense, we contemplate the mystery of Christ truly present before us. When we have the Eucharistic Adora-tion, we watch, wait, remain “silent” in His presence and open ourselves to His graces which flow from the Eucharist. By adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, we become what God wants us to be. The Lord will en-ter into our being and gently transforms us. The essence of the Eucharistic Adoration is God and man reach-ing out for each other at the same time.

One hour of celebrating the Holy Eucharist is not enough to appreciate the presence of the Lord. So that is why there is the Eucharistic Adoration where we spend more time before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

We are very fortunate because 2 years ago, we have our own Perpetual Adoration Chapel here at St. Mary’s (The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish). My dear friends, let us take this opportunity to visit our Lord. He is always here 24/7 waiting, watching, and open arms and hearts in order to help and answer our prayers. I want you to continue of what we started during the month of the Holy Rosary. Let us continue taking turns in visiting our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Let us fill that 24/7 hours with adorers! May God bless us all.

Once again we are partnering with Fish of Albany to help provide holiday food

boxes to our parishioners in need as well as to our community at large. There

are many families in Linn County who do not have enough food each month to

feed their families. Partnering with Fish will help your generous donations do

the most good … we need turkeys, hams, potatoes, veggies, stuffing as well

as any and all canned goods, cereal, crackers, box dinners, etc.

Please bring your groceries to church, or you can leave them at the office,

before Tuesday, November 21. We do have refrigerator and freezer space for

storage.

Thank you in advance for helping not only our families but our community’s

families have a wonderful dinner for Thanksgiving and good food to eat all

month long. God bless!

NOTAS DEL LITURGISTA ...

Mira ... Espera ... y Abre

Albany Knights of Columbus Council 1577 is sponsoring a family prayer program called the Holy Family Pray-

er. The State Deputy of Oregon received two large Icons from the Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, for this

program. Oregon actually has two of these Icons; one moving down the eastern side of Oregon and the other

moving down the western side. Our Lady of Perpetual Help (St Mary’s) has been honored to start the icon on

the west side. The intent of the program is to get families to pray together, focusing on the love and support

of the Holy Family.

The large icon will be presented to the parish on the weekend of November 11/12. It will move to another

parish after the 11 am mass.

There is a small statue and a smaller photo icon that will remain at our parish. They will be blessed by Father

Edwin at the 11 am mass and rotated among the parish families on a two week basis.

If you are interested in having one of the icons, you can contact Stuart Conser or Chris James. If you have a

preference between the statue or photo, let them know. The icons will be exchanged at the end of mass on

the appropriate weekend.

We honor our Veterans.

If you know a Veteran that you would like to acknowledge in our bulletin, please give us the following info:
