Types of Groups
Formal groups are established by management to achieve organizational goals
Command Groups
• Specified by or-ganizational chart
• Composed of in-dividuals who re-port directly to a given manager
Task Groups
• People work to-gether to achieve a common job task
Functional Groups
• Created by the organization to accomplish spe-cific goals within an unspecified time frame
Types of Groups
Informal groups are formed simultaneously from social interaction
Interest Groups
• Members may not be part of the same organiza-tional dept. but are bound to-gether by some other common in-terest
Friendship Groups
• Formed by mem-bers who enjoy similar social ac-tivities, political beliefs or com-mon bonds
Reference Groups
• A type of group that people use to evaluate them-selves
