16TH TO 17TH CENTURY
English and French fashion were popularWomen liked loose skirts, horseriding coats

19TH CENTURY
At this time it was a very popular costume. People wore it at important events. The typical things in the traditional Hungarian clothes were showed in these clothes, too
DECORATIVE HUNGARIAN CLOTHES(DÍSZMAGYAR)
Clothes showed the person’s rank and descent
Until the end of the 19th century clothes were made at home. It was the women’s task.
TRADITIONAL HUNGARIAN CLOTHES
The most widespread piece of clothing for men was this kind of coat called szűr. It was a decorated coat. There were diff erent types of it.
The beard and the moustache showed someone’s rank and age.
Older women wore scarves like these, younger girls wore párta
Men wore hats
Women wore skirts and apron, men wore loose trousers
• In winter they wore clothes made by sheep
• Clothes made by leather were also popular
• Men’s shoes were special boots called bocskor
There were different clothes in each region
