CE2013 Melbourne Australia Concurrent Engineering (CE), as a
concept, initiates processes with
the goal to improve product quali-
ty, production efficiency and overall
customer satisfaction. The defini-
tion of a product has evolved from
design, manufacturing and supply-
ing goods only, to providing goods
with added value, to eventually
promoting a complete service busi-
ness strategy. Services are increas-
ingly important to the economy:
the service industry has grown
significantly, and even companies
that fall outside the traditional ser-
vice industry are more and more
reliant on service-based business.
The product support service covers
development, operations and de-
commissioning. For example, in
Japan, USA, Germany and Russia
more than 60% of the GDP is due
to service-based activities. The 20th
ISPE International Conference on
Concurrent Engineering will carry
the theme Product and Service
Engineering in a Dynamic World.
We invite papers that present re-
search results, new concepts and
insights that cover the conference
topics.
Full papers will be peer reviewed
and selected high quality papers
will be recommended to journals
for publication.
Papers are invited that present
research results, new concepts and
insights that cover the conference
topics or more specifically the
theme of this conference.
We are looking forward to meeting
you at the 20th ISPE International
Conference on Concurrent Engi-
neering on 2 – 6 September 2013
in Melbourne, Australia.

CE2012 Trier Germany From the 3rd to the 7th of Sept
2012, the 19th ISPE International
Conference on Concurrent Engi-
neering was held in Trier, Germa-
ny. With 5 keynotes, 100 regis-
tered authors and 99 papers in-
cluded into the proceedings fol-
lowing a double-blind review pro-
cedure, the program was filled
with academically substantive
content. Moreover, 2 Journalists
followed this event.
Besides author presentations, the
conference was enriched by three
keynote speakers. On Monday the
3rd, Professor Ricky Curran from
Delft University of Technology
held a keynote speech about val-
ue engineering related to current
state-of-art concurrent engineer-
ing development. Extensive ex-
amples from aerospace industry
are shown vividly.
On Tuesday, Dr. Nicolas Figay,
from EADS (Paris), spoke about
the strategy of governance of
Product Lifecycle Management
(PLM). The way the community
governs the standards in order to
prepare and construct required
interoperability for used PLM solu-
tion is explained.
Dr. Bryan Moser (University of
Tokyo, Japan) discussed the de-
sign of complex engineering lever-
aging simulation of Socio-
Technical Systems on Wednesday.
On the same day, Dr. Zlakto Pen-
zar , senior expert mechanic sim-
ulation from continental AG,
Frankfurt gave the keynote about
practical development using con-
current engineering.
Dr. Tomas Beck and Rolf klamann
also presented their extraordi-
nary research on system engi-
neering tools and electromobility
simulations respectively.
The keynote speeches are availa-
ble for download on the CE 2012
website.The proceedings have
been published as part of the Ad-
vanced Concurrent Engineering
book series, and is accessible
through the Springer website.
The ISPE Executive Board would
like to thank all the participants,
for making possible of this excel-
lent event.

ISPE New Website ISPE New Website will be launched
soon. It is designed with a fresh new
look and user-friendly navigation, up-
dated with latest information about
ISPE progress.
The website contains ISPE Inc. status
update, recent news, previous confer-
ences, publications, associated jour-
nals, and Newsletters, etc. It provides
a perfect platform for researchers,
academic institutions, universities and
industrial research groups to exchange
innovative ideas and build extensive
collaborations. Research filed on Con-
current Engineering, topics about Sys-
tem engineering, Service engineering,
Product Life Cycle Management, Prod-
uct cost, Knowledge management, etc.
will be elaborated. Researchers, who
are interested in ISPE and collabora-
tive research project, could obtain
newsletters from the new site by reg-
istration. In addition, the ISPE forum
will supply an interactive environment
for board members and researchers.

Are you interested of starting a
forum? Yes!
ISPE website is available for
you to build forums. Forums
could be established based on
countries as well as subjects.
You will start a journey of dis-
covering a strong and support-
ive crowds around your re-
search filed. You will also step
into new areas which you are
interested.
As the initial basis, forums can
be developed further to Chap-
ters. During the ISPE Executive
Board Meeting performed at
the Concurrent Engineering
conference in Trier, the devel-
opment of Chapters as a pro-
spective means of contact for
researchers is proposed. Chap-
ters are established based on
countries, with the function of
collaborating local researchers,
engineering consortium, indus-
tries on the area of concurrent
engineering. Workshops and
general meetings will be ar-
ranged by chapters to focus on
the state of art on technical
progress and industrial applica-
tions.
The chapters will extend the
collaboration in more depth.
ISPE welcome any potential
collaborations.
We gladly invite any interested
researcher, university chair or
research programme to join us
of building forums and chap-
ters. Proposal is invited to sub-
mit towards the ISPE General
Secretary. Please include your
contact details, research field,
topic, objectives and basic
planning of your Chapter pro-
ject into your Proposals. ISPE
will coordinate the inclusion into
the corporation development,
subject to your final approval.

The International Society for
Productivity Enhancement
(ISPE) was founded in 1984 in
the USA with the goal to sup-
port and improve the interna-
tional exchange of ideas and
scientific knowledge in the field
of technological development
and application.
ISPE was registered as a non-
for-profit organization in New
York in 2005. It is officially
called ISPE, Inc. since then. The
main objective of ISPE, Inc. is
to transfer and integrate new
knowledge with relevant exist-
ing or new technology and im-
prove strategies and resources
to enhance productivity and
competitiveness of current
product and service producers
and thereby improve the quality
of the life. ISPE, Inc. has been
promoting research, education,
and application by organizing
conferences and other profes-
sional activities.
The main aim of ISPE, Inc. is to
foster the cross-fertilization of
technology, strategy, organiza-
tion and resources, in order to
enhance productivity, competi-
tive advantage and improve
general quality of life. ISPE,
Inc. embraces both the tradi-
tional and non-traditional fields
of engineering. In addition,
equal emphasis is placed on the
cross-fertilization of emerging
innovative technologies to en-
hance productivity and their
effective utilization of re-
sources.
