Health Priorities
Farmer’s Market Nutrition Education Program◦ Been in place for over 10 years; runs May-August
each year ◦ Partnership with local farmers at the market to
encourage sampling of fresh fruits/vegetables◦ Samples and healthy recipes given out ◦ Grant funding (~$4000 per year) to pay for a part
time coordinator, handouts, and recipe ingredients (produce donated by local farmers)
Success Story- Nutrition
Farmer’s Market Nutrition Education Program Coordinator works with local farmers on a weekly
basis to determine the produce to be featured. A healthy recipe is planned using a
fruit/vegetable that is in season. ~150 samples are given out each week and an
average of about 3000 samples are given out over the course of the summer.
