The speaker for the occasionwill be the Rev. Dennis Bishop, pas¬tor of First Waughtown BaptistChurch.

The pastor of Goodwill Baptisti< the Rev. Philemon A. Samuels.

Rev. Samuels has been in theministry for 23 years and has servedas associate minister with his fatherthe late Rev. W.E. Samuels at Mars

Hill Baptist Church and with hisbrother, Rev. J.R. Samuels at St.Stephens Baptist church.

Samuels came to Goodwill afterthe retirement of the former pastor,the late Rev. R.Q. Allen.

Samuels is a graduate of Win-ston-Salem/Forsyth CountySchools. He has attended WSSU,Shaw University, UNC-Chapel Hill,and is currently attending HighPoint University.

He is married to the formerGloria Monk, who is an evangelist

and they have two children, Bril andJoi.

Since being at Goodwill, a

youth choir was started, a youth andyoung adult department, a Wednes¬day night children's ministry,church training classes, public rela¬tions committee and there are plansfor a men's, women's and marriedcouples ministry.

The church grew out 6f doorto door class meetings, whichstarted in 1877. St. JamesA.M.E. Church was formallyorganized in 1882 and waslocated on Chestnut St betweenFirst and Second St

Sunday school will begin at9:30 a.m. Lesson subject "Jesusis Rejected,** with opening state-

meats from Nigel Alston.During the reassembly

period, the Young People'sdepartment^ under the directionof Veronica Ford, will provide a

question and answer period relat¬ing to the history of the localchurch.

Prayer and praise service,will be led by the "sons anddaughters** of the founder ofAfrican Methodism, the lateRichard Allen who later becamethe first bishop of the AfricanMethodist Episcopal Church.

Candles will burn for eachdeceased member of the church,who pasted within the last year.Nina Jenerett is in chaige of thememorial service.

The featured speaker for the11:00 a.m. worship service is Dr.L.O. Saunders, presiding elder ofthe Northern District of theNorth Carolina Conference ofthe African Methodist EpiscopalChurch.

Dr. L.O. Saunders is a nativeof Richlands, North Carolina.Daniel Lovett, chairperson for

the occasion, will preside andintroduce the speaker.

The welcome address willbe given by the co-chairperson,Betty Jeffers. The spiritual choir,under the direction of RonaldHughes, will be in charge of themusic.

The Rev. Carrington Carter,pastor of St James A.M.E., willbring the closing remarks.

A fellowship dinner for allthose attending will follow themorning service.
