Chicago Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - July 2014

CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA

Message from the President July is one of my favorite months for the ASGA of Chicago, as we have many great events during this month. Most notably, “The Chicago Challenge” which pits the trash talking “Salty Dogs” vs. the highly refined and intelligent “Stray Dogs”. (Guess it’s clear which team I am on). This is a wonderful weekend event and a great deal of fun. Team Captains Marie Di Vir-gilio (Salty’s) and Wayne Thompson (Stray’s) will certainly keep it lively.

Membership & Event attendance: Our membership list as of July 1st 2014 shows a total membership of 154 mem-bers. This is similar to recent years, but the mix of people has changed a bit in terms of being more active. It also ap-pears that our new members are taking an active role and attending multiple events. This is a positive! When looking at the first 15 golf events, our attendance is pretty much a mirror image of 2013 of an average of 35.2 mem-bers per event. This is a Macro-view, and we will continually be evaluating our out-ings and courses to insure we have good venues and attendance. But I am pleased with the direction we are going.

Past ASGA Events Pine Meadow, June 7 ~Coordinator: Jane Leary, Assistant Coordina-tors - Jeanne Schneeberger and Allen Chester

This event welcomed 40 golfers to Pine Meadow on a beautiful summer afternoon. Instead of the typical outing hole contests, each foursome played a modified version of golfers poker, with a prize awarded to one player in each foursome. The "losers" who took home the prizes included Greg Mieczynski, Tim Ryan, Ray Vogel, Paul Gentile, Kamal Dagher, Mary Lou Metzger, Kurt Kupitz, Don Hanson and Jeanne Schneeberger. Deerfield Golf Club, June 8th ~Coordinator: Bonnie Linklater, Assistant Coordinators Kathi Brown, Bill Forcade

It was a beautiful day and everyone showed up plus one. It was nice to see many stay after and use the patio. Closest to the pin on #8 - Patrice Al-Saden and Paul Reiter. On the green far from #13 - Linda Ciprella and Bob Ptak. Longest Putt Women - Loren Mercola. Longest Putt Men - Wayne Thompson. Straightest Drive #11 - Bonnie Linklater. The outing raised money for First Tee with $120.00 on pin number 3. Guess the number of tees

Volunteer to help at our outings: Just a brief note to existing and new members who have not coordinated or assisted… please offer to help coordina-tor’s or volunteer to coordinate an event. The goal is to have different people “chipping in” to coordinate and assist. A great way for new members as well to get more established in the group.

Road Trips: I have been contacted by some other ASGA Chapters, Michigan and Phoenix, AZ hoping to include Chicago members in some outings. Please check the ASGA web page and the newsletter for details as it is always fun to play with different organizations.

The First Tee Of Greater Chicago: Jay Thompson reports that we earned over $300.00 for this charity at Country-side last weekend. The generosity of our members is greatly appreciated. My thanks to all coordinators, helpers, and members of the ASGA board for all your collective efforts. ~Dave Colbert
