MY GENIUS HOUR PROJECT THE ARFWSWRTHE AUTO REFILL WINDSHIELD WASHER
RESERVOIRby: Jordan. T
WHAT WAS MY INSPIRATION FOR THIS PROJECT…
• You may be asking what my inspiration for this was and I will tell you now.
• My inspiration was I had a problem: its quite a hassle to re-fill your windshield washer reservoir. Why not create something to re-fill it for you?
• So there is my inspiration: I had a problem and I am fixing it.
MY ARFWSWR
Main components of this presentation:Collecting rain waterCollecting water from a/c system Pumping the waterPumping solids and liquidsFiltering systemPreventing the reservoir from overflowPower supply and controlAnd last but not least the limitations of this project and other technology
HOW I WILL COLLECT WATER ON RAINY DAYS
• On rainy days I will collect water for the ARFWSWR I will use tubing.
• I have used the water collector that already exists and blocked of the sides so I can harness the water.
• Then I connected the tubes into the water collector.
• The other end of the tubes is connected to the reservoir.
• That is how I will collect the water.
HOW WILL I COLLECT WATER ON NON RAINY DAYS?
• I will be collecting water on non rainy days by using the condensation in the air conditioning system of the car.
Why does it happen?
• When you turn on the a/c it is usually to cool down. So that means it is hot outside.
Then when the hot air creates humidity. When that humidity hits the cool air it creates condensation. Witch I am collecting.
• (condensation is when the water vapor hits cool surface then condensation occurs.
MECHANISM OF A PUMP
• A pump is an object that moves liquids, gas, or solids.
• Some example for pumps are: the gear pump, the centrifugal pump, and the piston pump.
• Some pumps need casing (liquid and gas pumps) and others don’t (solid pumps).
• Different pumps can be used for different purposes, for example to pump substance to higher places or to slowly move it to lower places.
PUMPING SOLIDS AND LIQUIDS…
• Pumping solids and liquids requires different types of pumps, different strengths and different casing depending on the solid or the liquid you are trying to pump.
• Also some of the solids pumps don’t need the casing at all! They are “open pumps”.
Just like in Minecraft!
• To pump rough solids for example, takes a stronger casing so the casing does not rip open. Same with pumping liquids with high pressure.
• For heavier items you need a stronger pump. Again same for the liquids with higher pressure.
FILTERING WATER…
• Filtering water is when you have water that is filthy or full of bacteria.
• Then you filter the water meaning that you are doing your best or completely cleaning the dirt or bacteria or whatever contaminated the water.
• The result: clean or much cleaner water.
• (I am also filtering water in my project).
• All filters work in the same way pretty much.
• They all trap or destroy bacteria and dirt.
• The filter type I will need is: a filter.
WHAT IS AN OVERFLOW VALVE?
• An overflow valve is a simple valve or tube that really all it does is it keeps an object from overflowing hence the name “overflow valve”.
• An overflow valve can be anything from a tube to a little lever activating a wall that rises.
• So an overflow valve is a tube or such that keeps an object or tank from overflowing.
• In my project I will have an overflow valve so the water tank does not overflow.
POWER SOURCE AND CONTROL
• The power source for the pump is always the car battery.
• The car battery controls the pump and other electrically powered things in the car.
• That is your source for when you want to charge your phone in the outlet.
12V BATTERY OUT OF TWO 6V BATTERIES…
• For my project I need a 12V battery. But I could not find one. So I made a twelve volt battery out of two 6V batteries! Here is a picture of what it kind of looks like. l
V
LIMITATIONS FOR THIS PROJECT AND OTHER TECHNOLOGY
• A couple of limitations are: This does not work in cold places, and this does not clean with soap.
• Other technology: In Britain they are developing a windshield that does not need cleaning… because it does not get dirty. They are creating a windshield that repels the dirt and muck with ultrasound waves! Cool huh?
SO… THAT DID NOT REALLY WORK …
• Putting two batteries together did generate 12 V but not enough power to pump .
• So it’s not only about the Volts but about the Amps .
• Tried to connect the pump to the car battery but then the pump burned.
• With no pump there was not much use in putting all the rest together …
WHAT DID I LEARN FROM THE PROJECT
• I learned about pumps and types of pumps
• I learned that Volts are not everything Amps matter too.
• I learned the purpose of an overflow valve.
• I learned how to combine batteries.
• I learned how to use Word shapes better.
• I leaned how a car battery re-charges itself.
• I leaned that a fuse keeps things from combusting.
• I learned to make everything out of every situation.
• I learned that you can learn from every mistake.
• and last but not least I learned NOT TO LEAVE THINGS TO THE LAST MINUTE!
THE END!
• Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoyed my presentation!
