New Era TheRobertMorriswomen’shockeyprogrambegananewerathisseasonasfirst-yearheadcoachPaulColontinoisbehindtheColonialbenchafterbeinghiredtothepositionthispastsummer.Colontino,whohadservedasassociateheadcoachatMercyhurstsince2006,helpedguideteamstotheNCAATournamentineachofthepastfiveyears,includingearningtwoFrozenFourberths,andhasoveradecadeofwomen’shockeycoachingexperienceattheDivisionIlevel.ForfurtherdetailsonColontino’sbackgroundandhistory,pleasegotopage9. WhileColontinoleadsthestaff,healsobroughtontwoadditionalnewcomerstohelpcoachtheColonialsthispastoffseason.HehiredAllisonRutledgeasanassistantcoachandaddedformerColonialBrianneMcLaughlinasavolunteerassistantcoach. Rutledge,whopreviouslyservedasanassistantcoachatWayneStatesince2007,hasearnednationalrecognitionanddemonstratedsuccessasbothaDivisionIplayerandcoachandalsoboastseightyearsofexperienceinCHAcompetition.InherfirstseasonatWayneState,RutledgeandherfellowWarriorcoacheswerenamedtheNationalCoachingStaffoftheYearbytheAmericanHockeyCoachesAssociation(AHCA)afterfinishingtheseasonwiththefirstnationalrankinginprogramhistoryandsecuringaschool-record22wins.RutledgehelpedWayneStatetoashareofitsfirstCHAregular-seasonchampionshipalongwithbreakingtheschoolrecordsforlongestwinningstreak(ninegames)andlongestunbeatenstreak(11games).RutledgehadastrongpedigreeforworkingwithWayneState’sgoaliesasshewasanAll-AmericangoaltenderduringherplayingdaysatNiagara.Shestarted110gamesinhercollegiatecareerandranksthirdall-timeinNCAAhistorywith3,405saves. McLaughlinhadastoriedcollegiatecareerforRobertMorrisbeforecompetingforhercountryinbothOlympicandWorldChampionshipevents.In120careergamesforRobertMorris,McLaughlinstoppedaNCAA-record3,809shots,afigurethatismorethan200clearoftheclosestnetmind-er.McLaughlinwasafour-timeAll-CollegeHockeyAmericaawardwinnerandalsoearnednationaldefensiveplayeroftheweekhonorsonthreeoccasionsinhercareer.Lessthanoneyearaftershecompletedhercollegiatecareer,McLaughlintraveledtoVancouver,BritishColumbiaforthe2010OlympicGamesasamemberoftheU.S.NationalTeam.Sheappearedintheteam’sfirstgameofthetournament,becomingthefirstColonialstudent-athletetocompeteintheOlympics,andwentontohelptheU.S.earnasilvermedal.

No Mercy SophomoreTheaImbrognoscoredwithjust53secondsremaininginregulationtocapafuriouscomebackasRobertMorrisstunnedNo.4/5Mer-cyhurstwithapairofgoalsinthefinalthreeminutestoclaimathrilling,3-2,roadvictoryJan.21,endingtheLakers’28-gameconferenceunbeatenstreak.RMUled1-0formuchofthegamebeforebothteamsprovidedaflurryofscoringactioninthethirdperiod.Mercyhurstscoredapairofgoalswithintheopeningeightminutesofthefinalframe,anditlookedasthoughtheLakerswouldonceagaintoptheColonials.However,RobertMorrisevenedtheproceedingswithagoaloffthestickofdefensemanJamieJoslinwithjust2:38toplay,whichsetupImbrogno’sheroics.Asaresult,itmarkedonlythesecondtimeinschoolhistoryinwhichtheColonialswonagameinwhichtheytrailedwith10minutesremaininginregulation.ThevictoryfortheColonialswassignificantforalitanyofreasons,includingthefactthattheir13thtriumphof2011-12brokeRMU’spreviousprogramrecordforwinsinaseason.Inhisfirstseasonatthehelm,headcoachPaulColontino,aformermemberoftheLakers’staff,ledRobertMorristoitsfirst-evervictoryovernationalpowerhouseMercyhurstintheprogram’syounghistory.TheLakersenteredtheactiontiedforthelongestunbeatenstreaknationallyastheyhadnotlostsinceDec.9,butRMUmanagedtolimitthenation’sbestsecond-bestoffenseenroutetothevictory.RobertMorrisheldMercyhursttojusttwoscoreseventhoughtheLakersbeganthedayaveragingmorethan5.1goalspergame.RobertMorrissuccessfullykilledoffallsevenMercyhurstpowerplaysinthecontest,afeatmademorenoteworthysincetheLakersboastthenation’stopman-advantageunit,convertingonnearly30percentoftheirchances.TheColonialsalsoheldLakerseniorBaileyBramwithoutasinglepointeventhoughsheenteredtheweekendleadingthenationwithover2.5pointspergame.

Vint Breaks Points Record FreshmanRebeccaVintnotchedthegame-winninggoalinlastFriday’s4-3victorytotallyher33rdpoint,breakingtheColonials’single-seasonrecordwithfiveregular-seasongamesremaining.ShesurpassedassistantcaptainBriannaDelaneywhoregistered32pointsduringherfreshmanseasonof2008-09.Vintwasfarfromdonerewritingtherecordbook.ThefollowingafternoonsheregisteredagoalandanassisttotieRMU’ssingle-seasonrecordforgoalsandentersthisweekendonthecuspofbreakingthatmarkaswell.Vintbeganhercareerwithabangasshescoredineachofherfirstsixgames,thefirsttimeanyColonialhadeverscoredinsixconsecutivecontests,whileregisteringmulti-pointeffortsinfiveofthoseaffairs.Shehasalreadyhada12-gamepointstreak,thelongestinRMUhistory,andcurrentlyranksfourthnationallyinppgamongrookies(1.35).

National Notice Justthreedaysaftertyingtheprogramrecordforwins,RobertMorrisearnedvotesintheUSCHOnationalrankingsJan.9.ItmarkedthefirsttimesinceNovember2009thatRMUclaimedvotesintheweeklyUSCHOpoll,whichisalmostexclusivelyvoteduponbyheadcoachesacrossthecountry.RobertMor-riswasoneoffiveschoolstoearnmentioninthe‘othersreceivingvotes’category.ItisnotsurprisingtoseetheColonialsrankedamongthenation’seliteastheyrankseventhnationallyinscoringdefenseandamongthetop10inbothscoringmarginandpower-playsuccessrate.

Impressive Imbrogno Is Reigning Rookie of the Year Afterarecord-settingfreshmancampaign,TheaImbrognobecamethefirststudent-athleteinprogramhistorytowinamajorpostseasonleagueawardastheconferencenamedImbrognotheCHARookieoftheYearatitsannualbanquetlastMarch. TherookierecognitionwasfarfromtheonlyhonorImbrognoreceivedasshewasalsotheonlyfreshmantoearn2011all-conferencehonorsasshewasselectedtotheAll-CHASecondTeam.Shebecamejustthesecondfreshmanintheprogram’ssix-yearhistorytobechosentoanall-leagueteam,joiningformerColonialstandoutandUnitedStatesOlympianBrianneMcLaughlin.Imbrogno’sselectionmarkstheseventhoverallAll-CHAaward(FirstorSecondTeam)foraColonialastheyoungRMUprogramhasproducedatleastoneall-conferencehonoreeineveryseasonofitsexistence. Imbrogno’sseasonwasmadeevenmoreimpressivebyherabilitytoproduceatthebiggestmomentsandinthemostimportantgames.Sheposted11pointsinRMU’s11gamesagainstnationally-rankedopponentsandalsoraisedherplayduringCHAcompetition.Sheelevatedherperformanceagainstleaguefoesasshepostedteam-leadingmarksof10goals,10assists,20pointsand72shotsinconferenceplay. Imbrognoprovidedthreegame-tyinggoalsontheseasonaswasakeyfigureinmultipleColonialcomebacksinFebruary’sclosingstretch.Sheassistedonthegoalthatbegantherallyandthenputhomethegame-tyingscoreherselfallduringthefinal10minutesofregulationFeb.5againstNiagarabeforescoringbothColonialgoals,includingthegame-tyingoneinthethirdperiod,tohelpRMUfightbackandtieSyracuseFeb.19.TheseperformanceshelpedImbrognonotchamulti-pointgameinfourofthefinalsixcontestsoftheregularseason.

Block Party InRMU’sfinalnon-conferencegameoftheseasonJan.30,theColonialscontinuedtodemonstrateanimpressiveabilitytoblockshots.RMUblocked22Tigershotattempts,andtheColonialshavenowblockedatleast20shots12timesintheirpast24outings.Thisyear’ssquadisblockinganaverageofnearly18shotspergame,whichwouldbethehighestmarkinschoolhistory.Asacomparison,RMU’sopponentsareonlyblockinganaverageof13.77shotspercontest.JamieJoslinleadstheteamwith55blockedshots,KathrynStackisnextwith53,PaigePietrangelofollowswith39andKylieSt.Louishas36.

Offense from the Defense JuniorJamieJoslinregisteredthegoalthatputRobertMorrisaheadtostayinlastFriday’s4-3victoryatSyracusetotallyher13thpointoftheseason.ThescorewasmoresignificantforJoslin,though,sinceher10th-careergoalmovedherintoatieforfirstplaceinall-timegoalsbyadefensemanatRMU.JoslinisalsocurrentlythreepointsawayfromtyingMalloryGiambra’ssingle-seasonrecordforpointsbyadefenseman.Joslinhas26careerpointsenter-ingtheweekend.

Eleventh Heaven InRobertMorris’5-2victorylastSaturdayatSyracuse,11distinctColonialstalliedatleastonepoint.Itmarkedthefirsttimethat11ormoreColonialshadatleastonepointagainstacurrentCHAopponentandthefirsttimeaRobertMorrissquadachievedthisfeatontheroadsince2008.RMUalsodemonstratedbalanceinitsgoal-scoring--despitenettingfourgoalsFridayandanotherfiveonSaturday,noColonialhadamulti-goalgameineithercontest.

Academic Athletes TheRobertMorriswomen’shockeyteamearnedaconference-best16selectionsontheCHAAll-AcademicTeamthatwasannouncedthispastsummer.RMUfreshmanAnnelineLauzieremeritedfurtherdistinctionasshewasoneofjustsixstudent-athletesintheCHAtobenamedtotheleague’sAcademicAll-StarTeam,asquadthathonorsthestudent-athletesthathaveachievedthehighestgrade-pointaveragesfortheirrespectivepositions.Lauziere,abiologymajor,earnedadazzling3.97GPAfortheseason,includingclaimingaperfect4.0averageduringthefirstsemesterofhercollegiatecareer.ThedefensemanwaspreviouslynamedasRMU’sMostImprovedPlayeraftershegatheredfivepoints,includingherfirst-careergoal,duringthefinal13gamesoftheregularseason.ToqualifyfortheCHAAll-AcademicTeam,astudent-athletemustposta3.0GPAorhigherinalloftheacademicperiodsduringwhichherteamwasactivelycompeting.While3.0representstheminimumstandardtoqualify,all16ofRobertMorris’selectionsactuallyachievedaGPAofatleast3.2duringthepastacademicyear.FreshmanforwardTheaImbrognowasoneofjustsixstudent-athletesacrosstheCHAtoclaimbothAll-ConferenceandAll-AcademicTeamhonors.Imbrogno,the2010-11CHARookieoftheYear,putupa3.91GPAduringherfirstseasonwiththeColonialsasabiologymajorwhilealsorankingsixthnationallyinpointspergameforrookies.

Colontino,whohadservedasassociateheadcoachatMercyhurstsince2006,helpedguideteamstotheNCAATournamentineachofthepastfiveyears,includingearningtwoFrozenFourberths,andhasoveradecadeofwomen’shockeycoachingexperienceattheDivisionIlevel. InColontino’sfiveseasonswithMercyhurst,theLakershavepostedanoverallrecordof148-25-9(.838),advancedtothenationalchampionshipgameonce,made
