0 Foreword
DCS-Pro, DCMS-Pro and DCRS-Pro chain hoists offer a variety of features in ad-dition to those provided by the standard Demag chain hoist range:
• Infi nitely variable speed control,• Load-dependent extended speed range,• Pro-Hub: Increase of the rated speed by up to 90% in the partial load range or
without load,• Speed control ratio up to 1:200 (factory setting 1:100),• Precise positioning,• Control pendant with a progressive characteristic,• Smooth load pick-up and deposit,• Smooth starting and braking,• Low-vibration operation,• Acceleration and braking ramps ensure low load sway,• Direction of rotation monitoring via integrated speed feedback,• Overload cut-off,• Automatic switching-over to creep lifting speed before the upper / lower limit
position is reached,• Frequency-inverter control with 24 V control voltage integrated into the chain
hoist electrical enclosure,• Temperature monitoring,• Phase insulation,• Gearbox, brake and slipping clutch are maintenance-free for up to 10 years,• If the DCS-Pro is used in combination with the E 11 to E 34 travel drive, trolley
travel is automatically infi nitely variable (0,5 – 24 m/min, partial load 0,5 – 30 m/min),
• Optimized guiding of load handling attachments with the Manulift switch or the rocker switch,
• The rocker switch can be fi tted in a load handling attachment at a favourable ergonomic position (DCRS-Pro),
• All other known benefi ts of the DC-Pro family, such as, for example: - Elapsed operating time counter can be read from the outside, - Operating limit switch for highest and lowest hook position - Slipping clutch with automatic cut-out by means of speed monitoring, - Height-adjustable control cable length, - Infrared diagnosis interface for service purposes.
DCS-Pro, DCMS-Pro and DCRS-Pro units are supplied ready for operation. In addition, the lifting speed, the acceleration and deceleration ramps can also be programmed by means of the control pendant to suit the application’s require-ments, if necessary. The DCS-Pro/DCMS-Pro/DCRS-Pro design largely corresponds to that of chain hoists of the DC-Pro range. For operation and maintenance, please refer to Operating instructions 214 741 44.The following items indicate features and functions which differ from those de-scribed in Operating instructions 214 741 44.

1 Safety instructions
Chain hoists of the DCS-Pro/DCMS-Pro/DCRS-Pro range must only be operated if a protective earth conductor is connected. In the event of damage to or interruption of the protective earth conductor connection, the chain hoist must be disconnected from the power supply without delay.
Fault-free operation with a current-operated e.l.c.b. (earth-leakage circuit-breaker) is ensured with a tripping current ≥ 30 mA, if residual-current-operated circuit breakers (type B to EN 50178, e.g. Siemens 5SZ3...G00) are used.

3 Description
The DCS/DCMS Pro is turned on by switching off and switching back on the emer-gency-stop button. The lifting and lowering switches are infi nitely variable, i.e. the operating speed is increased by applying full pressure to the buttons. When no load is suspended or in the case of partial loads, the frequency inverter control system makes it possible to increase the operating speed to 1,9 times the rated speed. In addition, the DCS/DCMS Pro is also provided with protective features which detect and prevent prohibited or dangerous conditions.Prohibited functions are:• Exceeding the load capacity of the chain hoist.• Snatching heavier loads at high speeds. In such a case, only the direction of movement is switched off, the opposite direc-tion is, however, possible.Any further faults may be rectifi ed by actuating and then releasing the emergency-stop button.Faults, warnings and operating statuses are indicated by the integrated LED 7-segment display (see sections 6 and 7).If, however, the chain hoist temperature monitoring device has been triggered, it is necessary to wait approx. 15 minutes for the hoist to cool.If the measures described above do not rectify the fault, refer to section 7 for fur-ther information on fi nding faults.
When no load is suspended and in the case of partial loads, the Prohub function makes it possible to increase the operating speed to 1,9 times the rated speed (fi g. 1).When the Prohub function is switched off, the chain hoist always operates at max. rated speed, also when no load is suspended or in the case of partial load. Before the rated speed is reached, an approx. 400 ms long measuring process is started. On the basis of this measurement, the speed is increased in the partial load range from rated speed for half the load up to 1,9 times the speed when no load is suspended.Loads can therefore be handled at greater speed. This function can also be de-activated by setting the relevant parameters (see section 4.2) so that is possible to only operate at max. rated speed. The max. fi nal speed for unloaded hook can also be reduced by setting the rel-evant parameters.Figure 2 shows an example of the speed characteristics of the DCS-Pro 2.If parameter no. 5 “Max. rated hoist speed” is set to A or b, the Prohub function is automatically de-activated.
The DCS chain hoist is supplied with activated Prohub function (not DCS-Pro 1). Depending on the load capacity range, acceleration to max. hoist speed by actuating the control pendant may result in an additional speed increase from rated speed to Prohub speed. This speed behaviour must be taken into account for operating sequences. If necessary, the Prohub function may be de-activated, see section 4.2, in order to avoid such speed changes.

The fast-to-slow limit switching function prevents the buffer from travelling into the emergency limit switch at rated or double the rated speed. The fast-to-slow limit switching function makes it possible to use only one buffer at high speed which results in an optimal C dimension. When the fast-to-slow limit switch is reached (350 mm before the limit switch), the speed is limited to approx. 35 % of the rated speed. The function can be switched off by setting the relevant parameters, in this case the max. possible speed corresponds to the rated speed. The fast-to-slow limit switching function for lowering can be used to avoid rapid depositing of the load.In order to customize the fast-to-slow limit switching function for lowering, travel the load/hook just above fl oor level. Then actuate the limit switch fi tted on the guide plate above the chain collector in the lowering direction. As a result, the speed is reduced to the speed of the fast-to-slow limit switch during every lowering motion approx. 350 mm above the position defi ned by actuation of the limit switch. In order to reduce the speed in the lifting direction, actuate the limit switch for lifting accordingly. The limit switch may only be manually actuated at standstill of the chain hoist in order to avoid injuries. For determining the original limit switch positions, travel the chain once to the up-per and the lower limit switch.
If the emergency-stop button is pressed while lifting is actuated, the reference point may be lost and the limit switch positions must be approached again for testing, see also Instructions for fi nding faults.
3.2 Fast-to-slow limit switch function
The operating element of the DCRS-Pro rocker switch is designed according to IP 34 type of enclosure.
In the following, the design and func-tioning of the rocker switch for the DCRS are described. The switch includes the following command devices:Emergency-stop buttonUsed to stop the lifting motion in the event of hazardous situations.RockerThe upward and downward motions are controlled infi nitely variable by means of the rocker. This is done by pushing the rocker in the upper area for lifting and in the lower area for lowering.VariantsTwo variants are available for load attachment:1) Quick-change coupling for various
load handling attachments that can be easily replaced
2) Permanently fi tted C hook

4 Installation and putting into operation
4.1 Setting the parameters The parameters set in the factory are selected so that they optimally suit most ap-plications. In addition, the DCS features two different possibilities of setting param-eters to adapt the chain hoist to specifi c applications.
• By means of the control pendant, dynamic factors such as speed, acceleration and deceleration can be set or functions can be switched on and off (see sec-tion 4.2). The parameters are set via the control pendant in connection with the 7-segment display on the bottom side of the chain hoist.
• Further parameters may be changed and/or system statuses and operating data may be recorded by means of the parameter setting set (720 905 45), available as an option, in conjunction with a laptop or via the manual operating terminal (537 414 84).
Setting parameters via a laptop or the manual operating terminal may only be carried out by instructed specialist personnel.
The parameter setting set (part no. 720 905 45) comprises:• RJ12 modular cable (5 m),• RJ12/DSUB9 adapter (blue dot) for PC / laptop,• RJ12/DSUB9 adapter (red dot) for operating terminal,• CD-ROM with Softterm program. In addition, a PC / laptop or our operating terminal UPBT2-A00 (part no. 537 414 84) is required.

4.3 Parameter description Prohub function (parameter no. 0)When no load is suspended or in the case of partial loads, the Prohub function (for DCS-Pro 2, 5, 10) makes it possible to increase the operating speed to 1,9 times the rated speed. When the Prohub function is switched off, the chain hoist always operates at max. rated speed, also when no load is suspended or in the case of partial loads.
Fast-to-slow limit switch function (parameter no. 1)The fast-to-slow limit switching function prevents the emergency limit switches being actuated at rated or double the rated speed. In the fast-to-slow limit switch range (350 mm before the emergency limit switch), the speed is limited to approx. 35 % of the rated speed. When the fast-to-slow limit switch function is de-activated, the max. possible speed is limited; for DCS-Pro 1 + 2 to 16 m/min, for DCS-Pro 5 to 8 m/min, for DCS-Pro 10 to 6 m/min (at VS 6-11). A Prohub function is not possible in this case.
Max. speed with Prohub (parameter no. 4)This parameter is only relevant, if the Prohub function is switched on.The max. speed for unloaded hook can be limited by means of this parameter (see section 3.1).
Max. rated hoist speed (parameter no. 5)The rated speed of the chain hoist can be changed by means of this parameter. When parameters A and b are selected (see table in section 4.2), the Prohub func-tion is de-activated.

Deceleration time (parameter no. 8)The braking ramp can be varied by means of this parameter. The deceleration time is specifi ed in seconds [s], i.e. the chain hoist brakes from the set max. speed to speed 0 within the set deceleration time. The set max. speed therefore also has an effect on the steepness of the deceleration ramp. The behaviour for various combinations of max. speed and deceleration corresponds to that of acceleration only with declining ramps.
Min. speed (parameter no. 6)This parameter is used to set the min. speed that is to be reached by a very slight actuation of the lift or lower key.Acceleration time (parameter no. 7)The acceleration ramp can be varied by means of this parameter. The acceleration time is specifi ed in seconds [s], i.e. the chain hoist accelerates from speed 0 to the set max. speed within the set acceleration time. The set max. speed therefore also has an effect on the steepness of the ramp.
In the following fi gure, four examples of acceleration ramps are illustrated.

The DCS-Pro can also be controlled by means of a PLC control system instead of a control pendant or a radio remote control system (see schematic connection diagram fi g. 4).The following conditions must be fulfi lled:1. The PLC must generate suitable PWM signals (pulse width modulation (see
items 3 and 4).2. In the case of PLC control, the “Prohub function” should be de-activated.3. If the parameter setting set (720 905 45), available as an option, is used in
conjunction with a laptop or the manual operating terminal (537 414 84) is used for setting parameters, the “Control by PLC” parameter must be activated. In this case, the PWM signal is specifi ed as follows:
Amplitude: 24 V DC Basic frequency: 1 kHz Effective adjustment range: 10...90%
Figure 1 and fi gure 3 show the example of a PWM signal with 10%, 50% and 90% mark-to-space ratio (PPV).
4. If no parameter setting set is available, the DCS-Pro can also be controlled via the PLC, however, with a slightly modifi ed PWM signal of the PLC control system.
For this purpose, it must be ensured that Vmin (10% PWM) is applied for at least 50 – 100 ms before every lifting or lowering motion. This ensures that the comparison for Vmin is carried out appropriately.
The speed can then be increased up to Vmax. In this case, the PWM signal is specifi ed according to fi gure 2.

4.6 SOST (Setpoint steps)
DCS with 2-stage control pendantFrom software version 1.44, the control pendant with stages can also be used for controlling the DCS-Pro. In this case, an external 24 V AC voltage source is re-quired since the DCS only has 24 V DC.The pre-set creep hoist/main hoist speeds are listed in the table in section 4.2. The main hoist speed corresponds to parameter 5 (max. rated hoist speed) with setting “E”. The creep hoist speed corresponds to parameter 6 (min. speed) with setting “C”.Other creep hoist/main hoist speeds and further parameters can be set in accord-ance with the table in section 4.2.The schematic illustrations show the general connection of a control pendant with stages to a DCS.
For changing from a control pendant with stages to a stepless one and vice versa, the chain hoist must be disconnected from the power supply so that automatic detection of the control pendant is possible after switching the hoist on again.
