ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research(IGIDR) is an advanced research instituteestablished and fully funded by the Reserve Bankof India for carrying out research on developmentissues from a multi-disciplinary point of view.
On December 28, 1987 the campus wasinaugurated by Late. Shri Rajiv Gandhi, the thenPrime Minister of India.
Subsequently, the Institute was recognized as aDeemed University under Section 3 of the UGCAct. Since then it has been awarded the highestNational Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) rating of A++ (under the old methodology)given to Indian academic institutions.
Starting as a purely research institution, it rapidlydeveloped into a full-fledged teaching cumresearch organisation when it launched a Ph.D.program in the field of development studies in1990. In 1995, the institute initiated the M. Philprogramme. The M.Sc. programme commenced in2003 to introduce students to the world ofresearch at an early stage.
Vision and Values
We strive to conduct and promote research ondevelopment from a broad inter-disciplinaryperspective. The institute undertakes projects andactivities that are useful in furtheringdevelopment and social welfare. It strives topromote co-operative endeavour and interactionbetween research scholars and institutions in Indiaand abroad, while simultaneously encouragingspecialized training for advanced degrees (Mastersand Doctorate).

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research(IGIDR) is an advanced teaching and researchInstitute. It offers M.Sc (Econ.), M.Phil & Ph.Ddegrees in development studies and providesprofessionally training in most branches ofeconomics from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
The teaching program has a cutting edgecurriculum and accomplished faculty. It has avibrant student body which is diverse in itsacademic background as well as nationalcharacter. Its teaching program is unique interms of research assistantships which give anopportunity to students to assist the faculty inresearch projects. In these projects, they handlelarge datasets, use advanced quantitativetechniques and learn how to interpret to results.Quantitative techniques, analytical insights andfield experience are all blended in the researchprojects as well as various courses offered.
No wonder that our graduates develop wide-ranging expertise on several broad fronts. Ourstudents have gotten jobs in reputed corporatefirms, banks, research institutes, universities andNGOs. It reflects the quality of teaching andresearch at IGIDR.

WHY HIRE US?
IGIDR strongly believes that the generation ofideas provides a base to the framework of successbut it goes hand in hand with the art ofcommunicating the same ideas to others. Theinstitute focuses on the skills of the students topresent their ideas in front of their teachers andpeers.
Apart from the gain on the theoretical front, theacademic programme at IGIDR is rigorous with astrong inclination towards the honing of thestudents analytical skills. Students are madefamiliar with a variety of data analytics softwarelike R, SAS, STATA, EViews and MATLAB.
The application of theory in an appropriateanalytical framework, along with empiricalevidence, is an assured test of the studentsunderstanding of the concepts at hand andensures that he/she is comfortable with handlingbig datasets.

M.Sc. EconomicsDuration : 2 Year ProgrammeIn the first year, 8 compulsory courses areoffered. In the second year, students choose anyof the 8 optional courses offered (or 7 optionalcourses and a masters thesis) that includes (i)one Major Field of Specialisation consisting of 4optional courses in a related field, (ii) one MinorField of Specialisation consisting of 2 coursesand, (iii) 2 other optional courses.
M.Phil. in Development StudiesDuration : 2 Year ProgrammeThe programme requires both the successfulcompletion of a minimum of 10 courses as wellas the submission of a dissertation. M.Phil.Students are required to take eight courses (fourcompulsory and four optional) in first year.Additionally, all M.Phil. And Ph.D. students arerequired to take the course on ResearchMethodology and Seminar Series.
Ph.D. in Development StudiesDuration : 4-5 Year ProgrammeThe Ph.D. programme is designed to createacademic researchers as well as professionalswho are capable of conducting policy analysis,relating to national and global developmentissues, from a quantitative and inter-disciplinaryperspective. Ph.D. students are required to take14 courses (4 compulsory and 10 optional) in thefirst two years.

Alumni Committee
This committee endeavours to strengthen bondswith the IGIDR fraternity and bring together thestudent community from current and previousbatches.
Cultural Committee
The cultural committee helps students bring theirtalent to the stage with a cultural week thatinvolves dance, music, debating, art and drama. Thecommittee also organises the celebration ofnumerous festivals recognising the diversebackgrounds of the students on campus.
Movie Club
It screens a mixed-bag of movies, after conducting aweekly campus wide poll, ranging from mainstreamto alternative cinema. This provides the student theopportunity to rejuvenate after a hectic week oflectures.
Sports Committee
This committee ensures the smooth running ofvarious sporting events held during a biannualsports week that consists of games like badminton,cricket, swimming, chess, carom, table tennis andathletics. The committee also helps maintain thesports equipment and infrastructure at the collegethroughout the academic year.

M.Sc. ECONOMICS
This is a two-year programme, which imparts students with a rigorous and hands-ontraining in Economics, with special emphasis on analytical and problem solving skills aswell as exposure to emerging policy issues at the national and international levels. Thisprogramme involves a successful completion of either 16 courses or 15 courses and aMaster’s thesis. It is aimed at all those with necessary quantitative prerequisites whowould like to be grounded in economic analysis.
