Reopening Plan for Prince of Peace Church amid COVID-19
Dear Prince of Peace Parish family,
I pray that you and your loved ones are healthy. As you may have seen, Cardinal Cupich recently shared our multi-phased plan for reopening churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Specifically,
Phase I allows for parishes to reopen for Baptism, Reconciliation, Weddings and Funerals with a limit of 10 attendees.
Phase IA allows for parishes to reopen for private prayer and adoration with a limit of 10 attendees.
Phase II allows for reopening for weekday and weekend Masses for larger groups depending on the guidelines from the state and the capacity of the church building.
Our Prince of Peace Reopening Plan:
First and foremost, it is important for everyone to understand that our efforts will prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all while maintaining due respect and reverence for the sacraments and liturgical norms of our faith.
I will assemble a Parish Reopening Leadership Team with parishioner co-captains to lead our efforts. Together, we will attend required training from the Archdiocese to ensure that our parish reopening plan conforms to the guidelines developed by the Archdiocese in collaboration with civil and healthcare authorities. We will also receive a starter kit of protective and cleaning supplies, as well as guidance on purchasing/maintaining supplies ongoing.
Volunteers Needed
We will need volunteers to assist with various aspects of our parish reopening plan. Importantly, leadership team members and volunteers must not be part of a “vulnerable population” (that is, not over the age of 65; no underlying medical condition such as diabetes; lung disease; undergoing cancer treatment, etc.). I ask all of you who are younger than 65 and healthy with no underlying health conditions to consider assisting with one of three reopening teams:
Set-up team. Sample duties include ensuring that all supplies needed for each sacramental celebration/gathering are ready for use, entrances and exits are marked and propped physically open prior to attendees’ arrival/departure, windows are opened, etc.
Greeting team. Sample duties include assisting in managing the flow of congregants as they enter the church, making sure attendees use hand sanitizer upon entering, are wearing a mask, and are reminded not to enter if ill; directing people to appropriate seating/waiting areas, etc.
Cleaning team. Sample duties include maintaining and cleaning essential and trafficked areas of the church before and after the church has been used. Masks and gloves will be provided, if you do not have your own, in addition to approved cleaning/disinfecting supplies.
The Reopening Leadership Team and I will make sure that all volunteers and properly trained. Please send us a message at [email protected] to indicate your willingness and ability to volunteer. From those that step forward, we will also request that some act as volunteer captains to help lead each of the three teams.
Timing for Our Reopening
As I mentioned, the Parish Reopening Leadership Team members and I will need to complete required training, which

we will take as soon as possible. Once we complete the training, we will need to review and complete tasks assigned to all parishes as part of a reopening certification process to be approved by the Archdiocese. Therefore, we realistically anticipate seeing an opening for sacramental celebrations, private prayer or Eucharistic Adoration will likely be sometime the first week of June. Our parish, like all others in the archdiocese, will move forward at a pace and timing appropriate for our own situation.
Following our training and certification approval, at Prince of Peace, we will only open our church once the Reopening Leadership Team and I feel confident that we have the right volunteers in place, and the necessary supplies, to make it possible to reopen. Again, the need for parishioner assistance cannot be overstated.
The guidelines and measures required to reopen are designed to protect our wellbeing and that of the of our broader community. Our collective patience, willingness to help and the care we take to reopen is a demonstration of our unity and love for one another.
May God grant you His peace during this difficult time and may He manifest His love and presence to you in abundant ways. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected].
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Gerald G. Walsh Pastor

Favorite Morning Prayer
I welcome this new day.
It is your gift to me, the first day of the rest of my life.
I thank you for the gift of being alive this morning.
I thank you for the sleep which has refreshed me.
I thank you for the chance to begin life all over again.
This day is full of promise and of opportunity. Help me to waste none of it.
This day is full of mystery and of the unknown. Help me to face it without fear or anxiety.
This day is full of beauty and adventure. Help me to be fully alive to it all.
During this day, may I become a more thoughtful person, a more prayerful, generous and kind person.
Help me not to be turned in on myself, but to be sensitive and helpful to others.
When night comes, may I look back upon this day without regrets, and may no one be unhappy because of anything I have done or anything I have failed to do.
Lord, bless this day for me and for all of us.

“I am praying for them...” (John 17:9)
Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foundation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last resort. Pray for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank, and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you.
How do I handle my Sunday Contributions during this Time …
For the past two months, since we have been unable to attend Mass, the Sunday contributions received have been significantly lower than what we normally experience. As our lives and finances are impacted during this time, please remember the church’s expenses continue. We are present to meet the needs of our parish community as we are able.
There is a “Donate Now” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on next page. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass.
When we return to Mass, there are cards available on the credenza in the gathering space that say, “I Support the Parish through Electronic Giving.” The card can be placed it in the collection basket instead of your envelope.
Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. Sharing Parish, St. Vincent de Paul & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
If you prefer to write a check and use your envelopes, please mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!

can support our parish

to attend Mass.

ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM
Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”
Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.
I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

A Prayer for Vocations:
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that
they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our
Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and
choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or
advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!
Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
PPC Liaisons to each of our parish
commissions are listed on the previous page.
