CORE COMPETENCIES
Strategic Planning in HR Being from the Infantry, the primary fighting arm of the Army, one is involved in HR management at every stage since it is a major job requirement. It is critical that every individual is trained, given equal opportunity for growth and assigned slots which meet individual strength and organisational requirements. It is only then an individual is motivated to give his best as also make the supreme sacrifice as enshrined in Our Regimental Motto(The Madras Regiment) which is “Swadharme Nidhanam Sreha“ that is “It is Glory to Die Doing one’s Duty“. This skill in handling HR has been imbibed during 20 years of service with the Infantry Battalion and other tenures at various locations.
Training and Development As an Instructor at the Infantry School, a Training Institution of the Army, trained Operational level Officers of the Infantry, with the aim to make each individual capable of commanding his sub unit successfully in all conditions. It is an appointment which is given after a stringent selection process. Identifying an individual’s characteristics, strength, and weaknesses and molding him/her to suitable task with appropriate training as also to identify from amongst them an individual who can be future trainers, is a strength developed at the Infantry school and tenure with the Battalion. Performance Appraisal As an Officer one is required to evaluate those working under command at every stage and level of work. At the Military Secretary’s Branch at the Army Head Quarters the management of all officers of the Army is carried out. Tenure there helped to get an overall perspective of managing middle and senior level officers in the Army. Understanding individual & organizational behavior as also the tact to handle personal and inter group conflicts is a personal strength. Motivation, Problem Solving. Motivating subordinates is ingrained in an officer who has to lead men into battle. In the Infantry the Unit is treated as an extension of the Home and problem solving is an occupational necessity.

Administration. The motto given to an officer at the time of commission into the Army is `The Safety, Honour, Integrity of your country comes first always & every time, The safety, welfare of your men comes next, your own safety & welfare comes last always & every time.’ With this as the goal as an officer one deals with individuals (those working under, colleagues & superiors), resources to achieve the aim set. The adiministration of both the men and resourses is thus a responsibility of an officer at all stages of his carreer. Having served at various levels in the Army including the command of a unit has given ample opportunity to hone one’s skills in administration. The adminstrative responsibility at the Deffence Services Staff College, Wellington involved fulfilling the administrative needs of 450 student officers including foreigners and 200 senior officers of the faculty.
Security. Infantry is the primary fighting force in the Army and it is used extensively in counter insurgency & militancy affected areas in the country. Further the tenure at the Army Head Quarters and the Assam Rifles involved strategic planning on security matters at the force head quarters level. Post graduation and M Phil programes also involved security aspects. My articles on security related issues have been published in professional magazines of the Army. This is the `Forte’ of an infantry officer.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Graduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington a premier institution of Indian Armed Forces where officers are selected based on a competitive test analysis and given a year’s training.
Successfully accomplished various Human Resource Management, Strategic Planning, Security (Men/Material/Information) related functions under constraints of time, space and resources in a high-pressure environment.
Professional experience in the Army has helped to analyse tasks and situations logically and this facilitated me in writing articles on professional aspects in magazines published by training institutions in the Army.
