Committees
Match Committee
The Match Committee is responsible for the supervision and control of all matters pertaining to the arrangement and superintending of all competitions, the allotment and revision of handicaps, the settlement of disputes, the selection of teams and supervision of the professional. To assist the Match Committee, members’ attention is directed to the following:
Familiarise yourself with all notices posted on the notice boards and local rules boards.
Take out a starting time at the earliest convenience and be ready to hit off when called to the tee. Report to starter 10 minutes before time. Failure to do so may result in the late player being moved to the next available alternative Tee Time.
All ties will be decided on a count back, with the exception of some major events as nominated, which must have a play off.
All complaints or disputes regarding competitions must be lodged in writing with the Manager. The Match Committee’s decision shall be final.
Non-competition players may only hit off after the competition field has been cleared and must, at all times, give way to competition players.
Competition fees must be paid before going out to play otherwise the player is a non-participant in the event.
All conditions and dates for competitions are subject to alteration at the discretion of the Match Committee.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for the supervision of financial matters in relation to the operation of the Club. The Finance Committee must ensure that the Club complies with all Laws that directly affect the financial viability of the Club. This is done with the assistance of the Manager and all members of the Board of Directors.
Greens Committee
It is the duty of the Greens Committee to supervise the upkeep and improvement of the Course. The Greens Superintendent controls the services of the course staff. This Committee should bring forward any suggestions regarding course improvements for the consideration of the Board and if so authorised, see to the implementation of such ideas.
House Committee
The House Committee is responsible for the supervision of the Club House and all matters pertaining to it, including the control of Club
House services. During the year various social evenings are held in the Club House. Members are requested to support these events.
Complaints
All complaints shall be submitted in writing to the Club’s Manager, who if unable to satisfy them shall submit them to the appropriate Committee or the Board, if deemed necessary. No employee of the Club shall be directly reprimanded by an individual Member.
Care of the Course
General
The following points are provided to assist the upkeep of the course and ensure that you and your fellow members have an enjoyable round of golf.
Sand buckets must be carried and used by all players. They are available adjacent to the 1st and 10th tees.
“Through the Green” a player should ensure that any turf cut by him is replaced and repaired.
Players are not permitted, at any time, to place their golf bags, drag their pull buggy or drive a golf cart, onto or across any green.
Bunkers
Enter and leave bunkers from the lowest access point.
Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints.
Pull the rake towards you as you exit the bunker.
If required, rake other affected areas.
Always leave the rake in the flat of the bunker with the handle parallel to the line of flight of the hole being played.
Rakes should be placed as far from the edge of the bunker as practically possible.
Repairing Ball Marks
Repair all pitch marks on the greens, not just yours, with a pitch repairer.
Always start at the back of the mark and push forward with the repairer.
Use repairer around all sides and slowly ease turf towards the centre of the mark
Do not lift the soil upwards
Lightly tap down with putter head.
Repairing Divots
Remove any loose turf from the affected area.
Replace grass clod in divot if sufficient roots exist for the grass to take.
Knock in all sides of the edge of the divot with your club or shoe and fill with sand.
Greens
Do not stand close to the hole
Do not lean on your putter, whilst on the green, particularly in the area around the hole.
Players are requested NOT to use their putter head to remove a golf ball from the hole.
Flagstick
Players should ensure that when handling the flagstick, no damage is done to the putting green or the hole.
Do not drop the flagstick on the putting surface, always lower by club or by hand.
Avoid damage to the hole by inserting the flagstick into the centre of the hole.
Motorised Golf Carts and Motor Bikes
Carts must not be taken closer to the greens, tees and bunkers, than the marked Blue lines or 5 metres, whichever is the greater, unless on established pathways.
Carts should always be driven on the pathways, where provided.
Carts must not be parked in front of greens.
Carts must be kept to the rough areas, as much as possible, during wet or frosty conditions.
Carts are to be kept clear of all wet areas.
Carts must not carry more than 2 persons and 2 sets of golf clubs.
During wet weather the use of carts may be restricted by the Match Committee.
Members, who, as part of their NORMAL mode of transport throughout the year, use a cart or a bike, may do so in Club Championships.
Drivers of carts to be 18 years or older.

Conditions of Play
All play is governed by the Rules of Golf, Local Rules, as displayed on the Local Rules Board, Competition Guidelines, as displayed on the Notice Board and the Regulations set out in this publication.
Members and Visitors may only play when and where directed by the Professional or Starter.
Any dispute or protest in connection with any competition or match shall be made to the Match Committee, preferably in writing.
The decision of the Match Committee in all competitions shall be final.
The Match Committee is in charge of all play on the course and reserves the right to alter the Program or method of play, at any time.
A ball in play should NOT be lifted for identification unless in the presence of the opponent or the marker and MUST be placed on the spot from which it was lifted.
Do not play the wrong ball. (See Rule 15)
Do not have your card marked by any other than the approved marker. (See Rule 6-6). See that it is checked, signed and countersigned before being returned.
The lowest marker in each group is responsible to see that the Rules and Etiquette of Golf are strictly observed and practiced.
Metal spiked shoes are not permitted on our Course.
Suspension and resumption of play will be announced by the Match Committee, or their delegated representative. The signal for suspension of play due to a dangerous situation will be ONE PROLONGED note on a siren. The signal for resumption of play will be TWO SHORT notes of the siren.

There will be no payouts on poker machines after the closing of the bar.
Members and Visitors dress must be appropriate, clean and tidy at all times.
Club Directors and staff are entitled to request any person considered unsuitably attired, to leave the Club premises.
Members shall not purchase golf balls from any person, other than the Club Professional.
Members should be aware that it is not permissible to carry out or engage in a Golf related business within the confines of the Clubhouse, Course or Car park. This would include, but not limited to, the sale of golf equipment, golf lessons and giving advice as to club specifications suited to an individual. Any member found engaging in such activities and any members found dealing with such individuals will be referred to the Board of Directors.
No notice, paper or placard, written or printed, shall be exhibited on the Club’s premises, without the prior approval of the Board.
The sale of raffle tickets and the like is prohibited without the prior permission of the Board.
Members are not permitted behind the bar without the express permission of the Manager or, in his absence, the head bar attendant.
Players must comply with any conditions of play, set by the Match Committee, for competitions.
Players must notify the Starter as early as possible before the time booked, if unable to meet a booked time.
Players who are booked into competitions and do not show on the day of play, without cancellation, will be subject to sanctions at the discretion of the Match Committee.
The Club takes no responsibility for damage to vehicles in the Club’s car park.
Members are expected to observe the etiquette of golf and to observe good conduct, such as, to not bring the Club into disrepute and to treat other members with courtesy and respect.
Greens Staff
Green Staff have the right of way at all times. Do not hit up on Green Staff or do anything that may place them in danger. Players should wait until you are called before proceeding. If you hit a member of staff it could well turn out to be your personal responsibility for any medical or other expenses incurred by that member of staff. Do not hit upon other competitors – as injury to them could prove expensive to you.
Handicapping & Handicaps
It is the player’s responsibility to return cards regularly for handicapping purposes. Handicaps will be adjusted in accordance with Golf Australia guidelines.
Ties in Handicap Competitions
Ties shall be decided in accordance with the Golf Australia Countback System.
New Handicaps – Allocation
New members and others requiring a new handicap shall submit 3 cards to the Office. The Captain or Match Committee member will then calculate and allocate a handicap. This new handicap will be capped at maximum of 36, initially.
Preferred Lies – Procedure
A ball lying on a closely-mown area, through the green, may be lifted, without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball the player must place it on a spot within 15cms of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a Hazard and not on a Putting Green.
A player may place his ball only once and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If a ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it is placed, then Rule 20-3d applies. If the ball when placed comes to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provisions of any other Rule applies.
If a player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
Note - "Closely-mown area" means any area of the course cut to fairway height or less.
Competitions
Players shall be responsible for acquainting themselves with the conditions under which the competitions are to be played.
At the halfway stop, at either Hawken’s Rest or the Clubhouse, a group may not stop if the fairway is clear ahead and the preceding group is out of range. Quickly purchase food and refreshments and continue playing.
All players must report to the Pro Shop at least 10 mins prior to their designated tee-off times. Failure to do so may result in the late player being moved to the next available alternative Tee Time.
Mixed Competitions
Members and Lady Members playing as partners.
No other competition is allowed.
Medley Competitions
Any combination of Members and Lady Members, two Members or two Lady Members as partners.
Handicap
In all competitions the individual handicap of all players must be shown on the Scorecard, under penalty of disqualification.
Individual Events
Stroke, Par, Stableford - Full Handicap
Foursomes
½ of Aggregate Handicaps
Two players as partners use 1 ball.
The players alternately tee-off from the teeing ground and thereafter strike the ball alternately until the ball is holed. Scoring is as per a stroke round.
If either player incurs a penalty it does not alter the rotation of play.
American Foursomes
3/8 of Aggregate Handicaps
Both players play tee shots at each hole. They then play their second shots using their partner’s ball.
One ball is selected, the third shot being played by the owner of this ball, then alternately by the partners until the ball is holed.
Scoring is as per a stroke event.
Ambrose Events

Through the Green, in a Hazard or Bunker, the ball is to be PLACED within one club length of the selected shot position, no nearer the hole. A ball may only be placed on the same type of playing surface. E.g. if the selected best shot is in the rough then the placed ball must also be in the rough.
On the putting green, the selected ball position should be marked then each ball is to be placed within 1 putter head length of the marker.
Longest marker putts first, then others in sequence, if the score can be improved.
Ambrose 3 or 4 Person Dropout

To be eligible, players must be financial 7 or 6 Day Members of SWGC.
How to determine where Strokes Taken
Team handicap is determined by the addition of the individual player’s handicaps – then dividing by 4. The result can be a whole number or include a ¼, ½ or ¾ fraction.
Lowest handicapped team goes to scratch; the other team then play from the full difference of their handicap minus the lowest team’s handicap. Fractions are included in the calculation. The result may again include a fraction. Any ¼ fraction is then disregarded with ½ and ¾ fractions being rounded up to the next whole number. Strokes will then be taken as per the Match Play Index.

Timesheets
Timesheets are normally available 2 weeks in advance of the Competition date, except for Saturday timesheets, which are available 8 days prior. Electronic timesheets are available on the Member’s kiosks, situated in the Clubhouse.
Saturday Timesheets
A draw is held on the Friday night at 5.30pm, 8 days prior to each Saturday competition to allow eligible members to book their place on the timesheet. Members attending the draw at 5.30pm are to place their name on the numbered draw sheet for inclusion in that draw. Numbers will then be generated randomly. Members whose number is called will then be able to place a max of 4 players (in 1 time slot) on the timesheet.
Practice
Practice is not permitted on the course earlier than the earliest designated competition timeslot.
Practice is permitted in the designated areas, namely, the area to the left of the 16th fairway, the area adjacent to the boundary fence to the practice green behind the 2nd tee and the area between the practice nets and the practice green adjacent to the greenkeeper’s shed.
Practice on other areas of the course, prior to a stroke play event is prohibited.
Chipping to the practice putting green is not permitted.
Practicing in the area between the practice putting green, the driving nets and the left hand side of the 18th hole is not permitted.
During practice rounds, (through the green), no more than 2 golf balls may be played.
All Practice players must play off the Yellow tee blocks, unless permitted by the Match Committee.
Playing Etiquette
The lowest marker in each group is responsible to see that the Rules and Etiquette of Golf are strictly observed and practiced.
When the result of a hole has been determined, players must leave the green before marking their cards.
Mobile phones should be turned off or set to silent or vibrate whilst on the Course so as not to distract others.
Players in golf carts should be aware of the noise they create. They should not be driven up to or past players during the course of their stroke making.
LOST BALL: A ball is considered lost when it cannot be found within five minutes. However, it should be noted that immediately a ball cannot be found, oncoming players should be called through and stand aside until these players are out of range.
Slow-moving players should allow faster players through.
No one should stand close to or directly behind the ball, move, or talk when a player is making a stroke.
The player who has the honour should be allowed to play before his opponent.
In the interest of avoiding slow play if this person is not ready to play, any person in the group may play their stroke.
No player should play from the tees until the group in front have played their second strokes, and are out of range, nor play up to the putting green till the group in front have holed out and moved away, unless called on.
Players who have holed out should not try their putts over again.
Turf cut or displaced by a player should be at once replaced and pressed down with the foot and covered with soil. Buckets and soil are provided.
Players should not damage the holes by standing close to them when the ground is soft, or spike turf with flag stick.
A player who has incurred a penalty stroke should indicate the fact to his marker or opponent as soon as possible. (See Rule 9-2,9-3)
Play without undue delay. Please remember your slowness is extremely irritating to those players behind you. The Match Committee has the power to disqualify or penalise for unduly holding up the field.
Slow Play
The regular occurrence of Slow Play is discussed consistently among Members and with the thought that almost every player-member of the Club has at some time expressed concern about the effect of Slow Play on their enjoyment of the game, we publish the following suggestions which could be of assistance in overcoming the problem.
Be ready to tee off on time. Select your club and ball while other players are having their shots. If the player who has the honour is not ready, then one of the other players in the group should hit. Shorter hitters should hit when the group in front is out of range.
Always mark your card while awaiting your turn at the next tee. Do not hold up the players behind you by marking your card while standing on the green just completed.
After teeing off, proceed directly to your own ball or level with same and select your club to be used while waiting for others to play their shots.
Do not have an unnecessary number of practice swings. It is agreed that each player has his own preference in this matter, but suggest that practice swings be limited to 2 max.
Call following players through if searching for a lost ball.
If called through (as above) and immediately afterwards the team ahead locate their ball and it is obvious that play would proceed faster if they were allowed to continue, you should signal them to resume playing. Note – This discretion is with the team called though and not the team searching for the lost ball.
On the green, continue to putt out whenever possible. Unnecessary marking of balls delays play and should be avoided. On reaching the green and your ball, study the line of your putt immediately and whilst others are putting.
Around the green always leave your buggy or cart adjacent to the path to the next tee.
Each player should proceed directly to or adjacent to his ball at all times, wait there until the player furthest from the hole plays his shot, use the waiting time to assess his own shot and proceed immediately it is his turn.
If you have lost your place in the field (have a clear fairway ahead) – Speed up your play. Courteous players who have lost their place will call following players through, if they cannot catch up.
In Par and Stableford events, PICK UP when you have no further chance of scoring.
Slow play is selfish play. Your position in the field is directly behind the group in front, not in front of the group behind.
