National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation week is a time for Australians to learn
about and share cultures, histories and achievements. Here
are some of our thoughts about what Reconciliation means
to us:
To me reconciliation week means that everyone respects each
other and there is no violence. Milly
To me Reconciliation means making strong friendships.
Korbin
Reconciliation means we have rights to let everyone do
exactly what we get to do. William
It means a lot to me because all the Aboriginals can come and
we can say sorry to them. We can treat all the Aboriginals the
same because we are one. John
I think we should have changed the laws earlier than we did
and I think that would have changed a lot.
Reconciliation means to me that we should say sorry and pay
our respects. To those who lost their children because of us, if
you had your childhood taken from you how would you feel,
we should make a change and understand. Gabbi
For me reconciliation is about people having the courage to
look at the past. It’s not about guilt, it’s about having the
courage to understand it. We need this done now before it’s
forgotten. Kaiden

Brightpath Professional Learning
Last week Mrs Hentschke and I attended the next steps learning
session for Brightpath. Brightpath is an assessment and planning tool
that enables us to assess students writing, evaluate our teaching
programs and have clear teaching directions to help the children
continue to improve. This is a free program for the school, funded by
the Education Department, which aligns to our Site Improvement Plan.

Lions Club Donation
A huge thank you to the Lions Club from Angaston and Districts who
presented a cheque to the SRC last Friday. The Lions Club has kindly
donated $250 to the school, to be spent on resources we need. The
SRC will put this money towards their 2019 fundraising. Thank you,
Tracie, Kate and Ray.
Young Environmental Leaders (YEL)
Our Young Environmental Leaders are off on another learning
adventure on Tuesday 18th June. This time the group will travel to
Mypolonga to learn from local growers and farmers about using
sustainable methods and innovations to produce food and fibres. We
hope you have a fabulous day of learning.
Year 7’s visit to Mount Pleasant
A big thank you to Julie Maxwell and the staff at Mount Pleasant
Primary School who are supporting our year 7 students to meet other

occur next term and again in term 4 just before camp.

FROM THE PRIMARY CLASS
On Friday afternoons in the Primary Class, we have been learning about the ‘Internet of Things’ and how virtually any type of device (eg lightbulbs or kitchen appliances) can be an IoT device. We have been very excited to be using the BBC Micro:bits that Mrs Hentschke was introduced to during one of the STEM500 sessions last year. They are mini-computers. We write code on our laptops, then download it to the Micro:bits and, “Hey, Presto!” we have a wearable digital pedometer or a hand-held digital game… so many possibilities. Our next steps include being more adventurous with the code we create or modify, and to combine the Micro:bit with sensors (in addition to the built-in accelerometer) for an even greater range of options. What do you think the code in the picture does?

Year 4/5 Class with Mrs Jamieson
The year 4/5 class have started learning
about money and financial matters in
mathematics. We have a game where we
are having to count up all the coins and
notes on a picture card and match it to the
item on our game board. We have also been
looking at representing money values in a
number of ways, purchasing items and
calculating change.
