Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor
Each year our bishop asks each parish of the diocese to host a missionary, usually from another country, to make an appeal for funds for his mission. It’s a very good thing for us to share the blessings we have received with others who live in poverty. It’s also good for us to know what Catholics in other countries are enduring so that we can have a sense of the total Church.
So, next weekend a missionary priest from Haiti will visit and explain to us his ministry in the poorest country in the western hemisphere. We all saw pictures of the physical and emotional havoc caused by the horrible earthquake in 2010. Some 150,000 lives were lost, thousands of homes, businesses and public buildings were knocked down to the ground. The grand Cathedral of Port-au-Prince experienced the destruction of its towers, entrance and its roof. Many other churches were damaged. We look forward to what our missionary will tell us next weekend and how we can help.
