SUPER MAMA DJOMBO
• Founded in 1960s by group of four friends
• “Mama Djombo name of the spirit with strong powers, called upon by the guerrilla hiding in the forests to protect the liberation movement”.
• Lyrics reflected post-independence political optimism mixed with enthusiasm of the liberation movement
SUPER MAMA DJOMBO
• After Independence in 1974, Mama Djombo became Super
• In 1980 they recorded in Lisbon their whole repertoire
• In 1986 the persecution by government forced the orchestra to break apart
• In 1996 they was invited to be apart of soundtrack to the film, The Blue Eyes of Yonta directed by Flora Gomes
• In 2007 the survivors of Mama Djombo were invited to cold Iceland and recorded Ar Puro, their new album
