RAMBAN: Before LocalBodies and Panchyat electionsthe First Level Checking (FLC)of M1 Electronic VotingMachines (M1 EVMs) was con-ducted at DistrictHeadquarters Ramban.

Deputy CommissionerRamban Showkat Aijaz Bhat,who is also District ElectionOfficer, said that engineers fromBharat Electronics Limited(BEL) conducted the FLC ofcontrol units and ballot unitsavailable at the EVM strongroom. FLC was conductedunder foolproof securityarrangements to EVM in thepresence of representatives ofpolitical parties and ENTHashim Din at the time ofchecking. On this occasion,details of FLC was given to therepresentatives of political par-ties along with technical infor-mation such as cleaning ofEVM, function check, mockpoll, data update, symbol load-ing etc.

KRazdan launched E-PlantClinics for Rajouri andUdhampur Districts on the con-cluding day of Seven DaysTraining Programme of PlantDoctors which has been organ-ised by Department ofAgriculture Jammu in collabo-ration with Centre forAgriculture and BioscienceInternational (CABI) underPlantwise Programme.

Speaking on the occasionRazdan said that there is needto widen the scope of ongoing E-Plant Clinics to uncovered dis-tricts of the Jammu Division tomitigate the insect pests, dis-ease and deficiencies problemsof various agricultural crops.He impressed upon the officersof department and CABI toeducate the farmers regardingadverse effects of indiscriminateuse of pesticides and their resid-ual effect. He further asked thePlant Doctors to work on differ-ent aspects of the pest manage-ment including data collection,online validation, analysis andissuance of regular advisoriesfor recommendations.

R. L. Bhagat, Joint Directorof Agriculture (Extension) onthe occasion said that the onlinedata generated through theseE-Plant Clinics will be very use-ful for the forecasting the pest

incidence and to take preventivemeasures at the appropriatetime. Bulesh Zutshi, JointDirector, SLUB stressed on theactive involvement of the farm-ers, regular updation and alter-native Second line back-up ofPlant Doctors to achieve theobjectives of this programme.

Earlier while presenting thepreview of Plantwise pro-gramme GaneshamoorthyRajenderan, Country Co-ordi-nator, CABI, South Asia wel-comed Director Agriculture andbriefed him about the pro-gramme and informed thatabout 28 new officers are beingtrained as Plant Doctors.

R. K. Bindroo, AgricultureChemist, Jammu presentedoverview of the different activi-ties undertaken and said thatthis programme is being extend-ed to two new districts namelyRajouri and Udhampurthrough the establishment of 8

tain communal harmony in the area,as is the tradition of the area. Theywere further requested to follow andrespect traffic rules and make use ofcrash helmets while driving two wheel-ers and seat belts while driving fourwheelers.

Jai Karan was one ofthe oldest staff members ofSMVD University, havingjoined in January 2008.Vice Chancellor, Dr.Sanjeev Jain; Registrar,Prof. V. K Bhat, Deansand HoDs, faculty mem-bers, staff and studentsoffered their condolencesto the departed soul andobserved two-minutessilence.

Vice-Chancellor announced that one family mem-ber of late Jai Karan willbe provided job, accordingto qualification. Further,the SMVDU administra-tion is also looking forwardfor making a provision ofproviding free education totwo daughters of thedeceased staff member inSMVDU once they growup, including other finan-cial relief.

He directed the concernedofficers to remove the bottle-necks and sort out the issuespertaining to their respec-tive departments on priority.DDC asked the ProjectDirector NHAI to startwork on above mentionedpoints immediately.

The territorial officers ofKathua Police under the direc-tions of Shridhar Patil SSPKathua conducted meetings inKorepunnu , Manyari, Palaiand Mangloor area of Sub-divi-sion Border Police Kathuawhile Sub Division Billawarorganised public meetings atvillage Dadwara,Dramini inthe jurisdiction of PoliceStation Billawar. PoliceStation Lakhanpur also con-ducted meeting in area ofMaggar Khad.

JAMMU: Department of Horticulture Jammu on Monday organ-ized an awareness camp at Pagge Dansal under the chairmanshipof Director Horticulture Jammu, Anuradha Gupta. About 250farmers from different areas of the block along with Panchs andSarpanchs participated in the programme.

While addressing the farmers, Director Horticulture Jammuadvised them to come forward and take benefits from variousschemes being initiated by the department. She asked them to workin an organized way by making Farmers Producers Organizations(FPO's). She also directed the Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu toorganize a fruit and vegetable preservation training programme forthe women of the area and provide subsidy to the interested farm-ers for establishing low cost preservation units. She stressed that iffarmers require any kind of financial help regarding development ofthese units they should come forward and the department will helpthem in taking the finance from different banks. She also stressedupon to plant more and more fruit trees and adoption of latest fruitcultivation techniques. On the occasion more than 500 fruit plantsof different high yielding varieties were also distributed to the farm-ers free of cost. Besides, an exhibition of different machines andtools was also made for the farmers.

Horticulture Development Officer Dansal Sh. Pardeep KumarDingra was also present in this occasion. In the end ChiefHorticulture Officer Jammu conveyed heartiest thanks to theDirector Horticulture Jammu and the participants on the occasion.

KARGIL: Final Training for Presiding Officers (POs) and PollingOfficers nominated for 4th General Elections to the LadakhAutonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil was heldat Auditorium Hall, Kargil on Monday.

The Election Observers including Rajesh Sharma, PradeepKumar, Abdul Rashid War and Bilal Ahmad, Deputy Commissionerand Chief Executive Officer (LAHDC) Kargil (Election Authority),Vikas Kundal, Superintendent of Police Kargil, Dr Pawan Kumarand other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

The training was imparted to 370 POs and Polling Officers in 1stshift while as 300 POs and Polling Officers was imparted trainingin the 2nd shift.
