NEWSLETTER 30 June/1 July 2018
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORD. TIME/B READINGS: Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24. 2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15.
GOSPEL: Mark 5:21-43
Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Parish
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we aim to be an evangelising, faith-filled parish whose members care for one another and are welcoming and inclusive.
God's graciousness toward us should prompt us to be generous
toward others.
In the gospel, Jesus reaches deep into the world beyond life and rescues a young girl from the jaws of death. Earlier, he was jostled by the crowd and felt healing power leave him in order to restore an afflicted woman. Repeating the words of last week’s gospel: Who is this man? Is this someone with whom we want to become involved? On the other hand, can we afford not to get involved with him? This is a man who can lead us to life even in the midst of death. He is someone who is interested in the well-being of everyone, even those who may not be highly valued by society – women and children, the chronically ill, those who carry the seeds of death within them.
God's graciousness toward us should prompt us to be generous toward others. What we receive as life-enhancing gifts, we must share with those in need, those to whom life has not been kind. As we have been favoured by the healing touch of God, so we must extend that same loving touch to others. The love of Christ impels us to be open handed as we approach those in need. Following Jesus’ lead, we must not only give to them, we must also allow them to take from us. At times this will require that we share material resources; at other times it might mean that our energy will be drained in our service of them. In all of this, Jesus has set the example for us to follow.

NAIDOC Week 2018 “Because of her, we can!”
NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 1 July and
continue through to Sunday 15 July.
In our parish we will celebrate at all
Masses on the weekend of 7/8 July 2018
Our Mothers, Sisters, Aunties, Grandmothers and Daughters have been, and continue to be the thread which holds our families together. They have fought for justice, reconciliation and social change. It is time for us to celebrate and embrace the role that women play in our Ministries, our Church and our families.
Congratulations
Fr Pat! We are thinking of you in gratitude, and asking God to continue to bless you in your ministry.

Plenary Council 2020
“What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?” Listen to what the Spirit is saying. Pope Francis has approved the Australian Bishops’ decision to hold a Plenary Council in Australia in 2020 and 2021. It is a significant moment for the Church in Australia to make decisions about the future.
We pray for the Church in Australia as we prepare for the Plenary Council in 2020. May we listen to what the Spirit is saying as we share with one another our stories of faith. We pray for courage to speak boldly and for compassion to listen with open and humble hearts.
The Plenary Council gives us all an opportunity to listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Church in Australia. In the midst of dialogue, we can hear God’s voice. Every one of us is invited to listen to God by listening to one another. Find out more about the Plenary Council 2020 at the new website, now online:

Safeguarding Strategy. 2018-2020
‘Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility” This principle serves as the foundation for safeguarding functions within the Archdiocese. It calls all Archdiocesan church personnel, regardless
of their positions to embrace safeguarding and their duty to care for and protect others from abuse, especially children and vulnerable adults. To coincide with the launch of this new strategy the Archdiocese has announced the rebranding of the ‘Safeguarding & Professional Standards Service’ to the ‘Office for Safeguarding Services’. The functions of the new office are to: develop and implement safeguarding standards, policies and
procedures; enhance capacity to achieve compliance with safeguarding
standards, policies and procedures; and support Archdiocesan church personnel in managing safeguarding
disclosures, suspicions and allegations. This weekend the Archdiocese has produced a brochure which covers their safeguarding commitment, the 3P’s of safeguarding, the safeguarding strategy and foundation principle. Available at our parish churches. You are encouraged take a copy so that you stay informed of this new strategy.

13th SUNDAY IN ORD. TIME/B - 30 June/1 July 2018 ♫ PROCESSIONAL: LORD I BELIEVE Refrain: Lord, I believe and trust in you; In you the world’s true
light. Though long the struggle and dark the night along the way of faith and love. By your grace, Lord, I believe; Help, then my unbelief.
1. From age to age, across the years, the life of faith keeps on; The Spirit moves each heart and mind the truth to search, the truth to find, the truth that sets us free, the light that shines and lights our way. (Ref.)
2. For faith, the rock on which we stand, seeks out your guiding hand. What ever darkness comes at night, faith has the eyes to see the light, and ears to hear your voice, and moves with joy to Christ’s embrace. (Refrain)
