ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNITIES 2014
Recently we secured funding to run the AASC program in 2014. This is great news for WEPS stu-
dents.
In 2005 the federal government made a commitment to increase participation for children outside
of school hours. Since then nearly 400 000 children have participated in the AASC program and
over half a million sport and activity sessions have been delivered around Australia.
The objectives of the AASC program are:
Enhance the physical activity levels
Provide increased opportunities for inclusive participation in quality, safe and fun sport and oth-
er structured physical activity through the AASC pro-
gram.
provide primary school children with a positive and fun
introduction to sport and other structured physical ac-
tivities, which motivates them to be active for life.
Stimulate local community involvement in sport and oth-
er structured physical activity.
Thanks to the program, children are spending more time
being active and want to join sports clubs or continue
playing the sport or activity.
Thanks to the program, more inactive children are be-
coming involved in sport than ever before.
Feedback shows parents, teachers, after-school care center staff and community coaches are
very satisfied with the AASC program.
REMEMBER the AASC program at WEPS is free, provides free healthy afternoon and it
gives children access to sports equipment and support from a qualified coach and supervisor.
Remember, WEPS will be providing this program again in 2014 so keep it in mind for 2014.
