• In the morning the temperature of the gym was 68 F. In the evening the temperature of the gym was 78 F. Throughout the day there was a wrestling tournament in the gym. What explains the dramatic rise in temperature?

• It is not only burning, but the sun is also shrinking due to gravity.

III. Activity on the Sun’s Surface
• Photosphere is where action takes place on the sun’s surface.
• Sunspots- cooler, dark spots on the sun caused by slowing convection currents

• Solar Flares- giant storms on the surface of the sun that have temps up to 5 million degrees C.
• Solar flares can interrupt radio signals and affect satellites in orbit.
