FRS Scholarship & Youth TourThe Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) offers an an-

nual scholarship program to help further higher education amoung rural youth. FRS awards $2500 scholarships to students from Rural America for their first year of college, university or vocational-techincal school. Each student is sponsored by a NTCA member company. FRS funds $2000 of each scholarship, and the sponsoring company funds the remaining $500. The FRS College Scholarship Program seeks to encourage students to return to their rural com-munities . This year North Wilkes High School graduate, Guadalupe Jose Rosales was awarded one of the scholarhips.

FRS also holds an annual Youth Tour. Every summer, the FRS Youth Tour brings high school students from across rural America to visit Washington D.C. Here the students will form bonds learning about rural telecommunications. They will meet with regulatory, legislative and government figures. NTCA member companies can sponsor a student to attend from their community. This year Wilkes Communications is sponsoring Cynthia Bowers from North Wilkes High School and Sierra LaPlante from West Wilkes High School to attend.(Pictured Left to Right: Eric Cramer, CEO; Cynthia Bowers, NWHS; Guadalupe Rosales, NWHS; Sierra LaPlante, WWHS. )
