YALE-NUS COLLEGE IDENTITY GUIDELINES
INTRODUCTION
This identity guide shares how we can apply the Yale-NUS identity system in a clear consistent manner to ensure that a unified image of the College is projected. Consistent application of the identity system across the College will strengthen the brand recognition both at home and abroad. These guidelines provides a general overview of the Yale-NUS identity system. It will help all users to apply the graphic identity consistently and effectively.
THE YALE-NUS IDENTITY
The Yale-NUS identity is designed to reflect the integral partnership between Yale University and the National University of Singapore. The identity takes on a similar but not the colour tones from its two founding partners. It also introduces a primary typeface that is distinct from each institutions’ existing typography - lending a bold and fresh look to the College.
YALE-NUS COLLEGE WORDMARK
PRIMARY STRAIGHT WORDMARK The two-colour, one-line wordmark should be used whenever possible.
PRIMARY STACKED WORDMARK
The stacked wordmark is useful in situations where limited horizontal space is available.
The wordmark is not a font and it can’t be typed. It should be used as an image file.
YALE-NUS IDENTITYFull name : Yale-NUS College
Chinese name :
Abbreviation : Yale-NUS / (not YNC, YNUS or other permutations)
To respect the brand name of both our founding institutions (Yale University and National University of Singapore), the College should be referred to as Yale-NUS, as the names of our founders should not be shortened any further.
INSTITUTIONAL AND RESIDENTIAL COLOURS
The Yale-NUS College institutional colours are a distinct and important part of the identity system.
They provide a strong visual link across a broad range of applications. When applied consistently, they build visual awareness and sets the College apart from other institutions reinforcing its unique character.
The primary colour palette is comprised of the Yale-NUS Blue and Yale-NUS Orange which is different from the NUS Orange and Yale Blue. In addition to the primary institutional colours, Grey has been selected to complement the institutional colours.
Each Residential College has its own unique residential colour. It may only be applied to Residential College collateral (t-shirts, banners etc) and not College specific collateral. It is recommended that the Residential College colours be used together with the Institutional colours.
When producing College and Residential College collateral, the correct pantone colours must be used.
Please email [email protected] for the pantone codes.
CLEAR SPACE AND MINIMUM SIZE
Clear SpaceMaintain one cap-height or 20% of clear space on all sides of the wordmark.
Minimum SizeTo ensure legibility, please do not print the horizontal wordmark smaller than 58mm, or the stacked wordmark smaller than 15mm.

WORDMARK VARIATIONS
The Yale-NUS College wordmark cannot be altered or broken apart. Using the full wordmark is the best way to communicate your official connection to the College. In certain instances, where it is important for your audience to know the office/student group behind the communications, we have created a signature that reflects both the College word mark and the department/division/student organisation identity. For business communications, like letterhead, envelopes, and business cards, please use the College’s official collateral.
Students who wish to use the College word mark would need to seek prior approval from Public Affairs before applying it on communications and collateral. Student organisations are encouraged to adopt the Yale-NUS graphic identity guidelines to establish their relationship with the College.

CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Separate logos for your unit, project, student group, department or center add to the complexity and clutter of Yale-NUS College’s visual landscape. Below are the reasons why Yale-NUS does not adopt the practice of additional or new logos.
1. The Yale-NUS wordmark reflects our strong reputation.By using the Yale-NUS wordmark, you are tapping into a globally recognised brand identity and a reputation. Separate or unique logos often confuse the audience and your message.
2. A coordinated visual identity builds and reinforces the Yale-NUS brand. Seemingly unrelated logos do not serve the interests of the individual unit or Yale-NUS College as a whole. The name recognition of units within Yale-NUS is strengthened through the collective power of a single brand.
3. Using the Yale-NUS College wordmark makes communications clear. The most effective communications are simple. Multiple logos add to the complexity of communications and can confuse audiences.
4. Yale-NUS has sufficient resources to effectively promote its brand to the benefit of all units within the College.
Promoting a brand and logo takes considerable financial resources and time. Most initiatives do not have the resources or expertise to effectively brand themselves through widespread advertising and marketing. At Yale-NUS we work together to ensure that we collectively strengthen the Yale-NUS brand name through consistent application.
