Optitap, RF Return Path, Separate Enclosure
RF ReturnWe are working on an RF return path solution with one of our vendors. We are making progress, but I
cannot commit on a date yet. I do not believe we will have a working solution by the end of this year.
We will have support for both Scientific Atlanta and Motorola head ends. The ONT will packetize the messaging and use the upstream data path to route the packets to the head end.
OptitapOptitap will be supported on the 4100 and 7300 outdoor units. You can
see it here.
We are investigating how to sell this optional feature. The Optitap adapter might be a separate line item that the user can install themselves.
Separate Enclosures and ElectronicsSome customers buy fiber trays to terminate the fiber and then come
back later with the electronics. We support this today with the zNID 4200 (original zNID ONT). We will support this with the 4100 and 7300 product line, but for trials we will have complete units only. After the details are worked out on the Operations side of things we will be able to start shipping the separate pieces.

Single Port 2110
The 2110 will most likely be used as a media converter dropping off Ethernet to business customers. We could use the 2110 in a two-box GPON ONU solution with the XP.
Keep in mind that with current GPON SoC technology you will not see Gigabit throughput. At most you will have a few 100M. Throughput results will be distributed after testing is completed in December.

Intelligent zNID Vs. Typical Bridged ONT
zNID Bridged NID
Powerful QoS No/limited QoS
Extensive logging for IGMP, VoIP, Firewall, etc.
No/limited logging. Service provider is blind.
Prioritizes traffic for trouble free home networking.
Separate indoor device is required to prioritize and distribute traffic.
Enables “sticky” services. No added value, high customer churn.
HPNA built in for home network distribution.
Install CAT-5?
Customer problem?
zNID clearly offers operational advantages over typical bridged fiber ONT’s
