European Board of Interventional Radiology – EBIR

A voluntary supplemental examination offered by CIRSE to assess candidates on the clinical and technical knowledge necessary to carry out safe and effective IR treatments for patients.

• Over 560 EBIR holders globally*• Candidates from 45 different countries have taken the exam• 3 exams held annually: 2 in Europe, 1 in Australasia

• UEMS-CESMA appraised• Endorsed by ESR & UEMS IR Division

An EBIR candidate’s profile

Applicants must:

• Have completed national radiology training as well as at least 1 year of IR training

• Currently work as a fully qualified staff radiologist

• Have experience as first operator performing >250 IR procedures, 150 of which are interventions as defined by section 2.2.1 of the European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology

An EBIR candidate’s profile – cont.

Applicants must have:

• Validation of competency from IR programme director or other responsible authority that the applicant demonstrates safe and appropriate interaction, e.g. a commitment to patient safety, ability to work in a team environment, etc.

• ESR and CIRSE membership in the year(s) of the application and examination

The relevance of syllabus topics is provided within, and a colour code indicates the frequency with which a topic is tested in the EBIR examinations.
