I am grateful to last weekend’s presenters: Chris Amick, Jan Reilley, Emily Gates and Connie Frick for sharing their personal service experiences.
Octoberfest ~ Bona thanks to everyone who attended the annual auction/dinner/ dance last Saturday. Bona thanks to those who made donations to the auction. Bona thanks to the Chairs for the event: Denise Guetterman, Sue Papajcik, Lisa Rolves and Kristin Donaldson.
Married Couples ~ I am seeking approximately 10 married couples who would enjoy working with newly engaged couples who will be married at Saint Boniface next year. You will enjoy walking along side the engaged couples as well as strengthening and renewing your own commitment to one another. This is a positive way to encourage and support strong Catholic marriages. If you are interested, please contact me @ jgoeckner@dio.org or at the Parish Office. A meeting will be held in the near the future.
Credo 101 ~ Sunday, October 25, 6:30—8:00 PM in the Oak Room. Parents of 2nd and 8th graders are required to attend one of the sessions. Please note: the November 17 date has been changed to November 19.
Twenty–Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that he did not come to be served by others. Rather, he came to serve and to give his life as a
ransom for many through his ultimate sacrifice. This means that all those who sincerely aspire to live as disciples of Jesus must be willing to lay down their lives in love and service to others.
Congratulations to
Patrick Ratz & Ashley West

May God Bless You Always!

Commitment Sunday
Next week is Commitment Sunday, the culmination of our inaugural Stewardship Series. Over the past several weeks, we hope that you have enjoyed sharing your blessings on the Blessing Tree, learning about the faith formation and service opportunities at St. Boniface, and listening to your fellow parishioners share their experiences of how their faith lives have been changed through their commitments and participation. Now it’s time for all of us to consider how we might make a difference in our parish during the coming year. Whether you are making a new commitment to become more involved in our parish family and community service or recommitting to an activity that you have supported for years, we invite you to share those commitments on the forms provided next week. These are not pledge forms or promissory notes, they are simply a way for our parish to support one another in carrying out God’s work here at St. Boniface.
Here are some questions to incorporate into your prayers that might help you discern God’s calling around your spirituality, service and sacrifice:
• Do I devote time outside of Sunday Mass to learn more about my faith or enhance my relationship with God?
• How may I expand my participation in parish life and further assist those in need in our community through volunteerism?
• Have I planned for my financial gifts to the parish and are they an appropriate response to God’s generosity in my life?
Thank you in advance for your participation in this year’s Commitment Sunday. We look forward to sharing the results with you soon.
May God bless you! St. Boniface Stewardship Council

There will also be fun pumpkin painting and other kids’ activities during the main run which begins at 8:00 a.m. (awards for top 3 in each age group). Strategic Planning
Now that the new building is open, Father McGivney's school board is undergoing a strategic planning process to review where we are today, where we'd like to be in the future, and how best to get there.
The first of three public meetings (for parents, prospective parents, interested community members, and faculty/staff) will be held on Monday, November 2, at 7 PM in McGivney's gymnasium. The public is invited to give feedback on the proposed strategic planning process (and to tour the new building if you haven't yet had the opportunity).
In addition, we'd love for any retirees/seniors, "at home" parents, or those that may have some time to donate during the day to do some specific research for us in this process. If you are interested in attending on 11/2 at 7 PM please RSVP by using the form found at: http://goo.gl/forms/Ss51xFs7ix so we can plan accordingly for this kickoff meeting. If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please email dmichael@mcgivneygriffins.com.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children’s Liturgy of the Word has resumed, but we are in need of additional individuals to be a part of this important ministry for our children. Training is provided and anyone interested in Children’s Liturgy or has additional questions should contact Barb Stamer at 692-0991 or by email at barbarastamer@att.net.

MINISTRY MINUTES
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
Some of you may remember or you have seen re-runs of a television show called “Cheers”. In the theme song of the sitcom (which actually became a pop song on the charts of the time), the lyrics tell us of a very basic human desire; Be glad there's one place in the world, Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came; You want to go where people know, People are all the same; You want to go where everybody knows your name.
As humans we have the need to belong, be recognized, needed, appreciated, etc. Like everything else in our lives when we lose perspective or balance we may over react. We may either seek recognition as the goal rather than simply doing our best and contributing our gifts and talents or we may shun any recognition of our gifts and therefore not develop them and use them for the good of others. We are in the Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Since the Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary time at the beginning of July, each Gospel tells us of Jesus teaching others. Sometimes it’s the Disciples, sometimes the Pharisees, and sometimes the crowds. Jesus taught with words and with actions.
Often it is the very ordinary things in life that teach us the best lessons. It is good for us to ask in all of our life encounters: How are you my teacher? What am I meant to learn? What is it that Jesus asks of us in order to follow Him? It may seem nearly impossible some days to serve as Jesus asks us. However, it may be as simple as the things we do every day to serve our families, friends, and others we encounter. God is with us everywhere. For our part we need to have an awareness or a consciousness of this loving presence and reach out and share it with others; a smile, recognition of their presence, appreciation for who they are. As followers of Jesus helping others to feel welcomed and loved is part of our mission.
How Our Church Helps Syrian Refugees Resettle in the
United States
Since its founding in 1951 through a joint effort by Pope Pius XII, Monsignor Giovanni Battista Montini (the future Pope Paul VI) and layman James J Norris, our Church has had an organization dedicated to responding to the needs of displaced persons and migrants. The organization is called the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) and in the 64 years of helping migrants it has developed a comprehensive expertise in assisting migrants.
Each decade since the 1950s seems to have the challenge of resettling a large number of forcibly displaced persons in different parts of our world. Our current decade is facing a massive forced displacement of Syrians fleeing from the dangers of a civil war and an especially intense persecution of Christians.
To help these Syrians, the ICMC is working with our government at the United States Resettlement Support Center in Istanbul, Turkey. At that center the ICMC is responsible for the initial screening interview of the thousands of refugees referred to the center. In that interview ICMC workers collect a biography, a family history and a persecution story from each person. The ICMC also teaches classes about our culture to those refugees who will be coming to the United States.
Resettlement can be a very long process because each family is carefully screened by our Homeland Security Agency and those background checks can take a very long time. While waiting most refugee families live in a much reduced circumstance in Istanbul. The total length of time between being displaced and actually stepping foot on American soil is counted not in months but usually in years.
Please keep these displaced persons in your prayers, very often they are grieving the loss of some of their family members and longing for their lives at a home they cannot return to.

Today’s Gospel Reading from St. Mark is often cited as a stewardship story, and it is heavy with meaning in that regard. One of the Lord’s favorite topics was service, the motivation and readiness to put our very selves at the benefit of those around us, our parishes and communities. All of our readings speak to the idea of servitude, especially how Jesus served us and all through many generations. Robin Hake, Business Manager
