Father has worked for ten years on this project and it is finally coming to fruition, just in time for Christmas! It's called Staritsa: The Spiritual Motherhood of Catherine Do-herty. "Staritsa" is the Russian word for spiritual mother. This was Catherine's voca-tion. The book is available on Amazon: in 2-4 weeks; Ingram: in 4 weeks; Kindle: in 3-4 months.
About the author: Father is a Priest of the Diocese of Bridge-port; M.A. in Dogmatic Theology, St. John's University, Queens, NY; S.T.D. in Spiritual Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome; Spiritual Director and Professor of Spiritual Theology at St. Joseph's Seminary,
Yonkers, NY. Previously, Pastor of St. Mark's Church in Stratford, CT.

Gaudete Sunday While the theme of Advent is a focus on the coming of Jesus in three ways: His first, His pre-sent and His final Advent, the readings for Gaudete Sunday deal with rejoicing in the Lord — Christian joy — as well as
the mission of St. John the Baptist and his connection with Advent. In his 2014 Gaudete Sunday homily, Pope Francis said that Gaudete Sunday is known as the "Sunday of joy," and that instead of fretting about "all they still haven't" done to prepare for Christmas, people should "think of all the good things life has given you.”
Thank you to all who assisted with the Patronal

A Message from Father Ford Dear Parishioners, During the months of November and December the Pastors and Principals of the four Waterbury elementary Catholic Schools, in concert with the Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis (OEEC), have explored solutions for the issues plagu-ing the Catholic education in Waterbury. A variety of discussions have occurred over the past several years.
As you are aware, the viability of the buildings at St. Mary School campus are in serious need of ex-tensive repairs and renovations. It is cost prohibitive for the Basilica to subsidize the building needs beyond this current school year. In addition, the enrollment at Blessed Sacrament has experienced a decline over the years, compromising financial viability. However, the Blessed Sacrament school building is in excellent condition and has the capacity to accommodate a large school population. As a result, the following plan has been created and accepted to form a new school”
To this point, the following has been determined: Close the St. Mary School Building Create a new school in the Blessed Sacrament building based on the successful academic model
already in place at St. Mary School. The administrative team will be consistent with an academy model: Principal-Mr. Jonathan DeRosa; Academic Dean-Mrs. Michelle Banach. The current Blessed Sacrament facility has a cafeteria and hot lunch program, a gym, and a well
maintained playground complete with a newly landscaped playscape. All personnel from both schools may reapply for positions in this new school. The administrators
and Assistant Superintendent of Academics will interview those expressing an interest in teach-ing at the STREAM Academy and who will commit to ongoing professional development in the spring, summer, and ongoing throughout the new school year.
The two administrators have already introduced STREAM methodology to each faculty to varying extents with great enthusiasm.
The tuition will be determined. Uniforms will be determined by the school leaders. Plans to secure bus transportation throughout Waterbury for all Waterbury residents is being
pursued. Our Lady of Mount Carmel and SS. Peter and Paul will remain pre-K through 8 traditional Catholic schools in Waterbury next year. This is a well thought-out plan to sustain Catholic education in Waterbury. We pray that all of our families currently enrolled will support this plan with enthusiasm and hope for the future.
Fr. Ford
