Variables for Exercise #6
Dependent Variable: RAPRs liking for rap
Independent Variable: AGECATRs age
Control Variable: RACERs race
Bivariate Hypothesis: The age of a person affects his or her outlook on rap music. The older a
person is the less likely they are to like rap music. In this way a small percent of respondents in
the 40 and older age category will like rap music compared to respondents in the 18-29 age
category. As respondents get older the percent of those who like rap music will go down.
Multivirate Hypothesis: The age of a person has an impact on his or her outlook on rap music.
The younger a person is the more likely they will like rap. Black respondents will tend to like rap
music more than white respondents. Among both races the percent of those who like rap will
decline as the age category gets older.

Bivariate Discussion: The older a person gets the less likely they will like rap music. The
younger respondents are the more likely they will like rap. 52.4 percent of respondents in the 18-
29 age category like rap compared to 21.5 percent of respondents in the 40 and older age
category who dislike rap music. In our 3 age categorys what we see is a steady decline in those
who like rap as the age categorys get older.
Multivariate Discussion: Respondents who like rap were greater in all age categorys for
Black people than White people. For both races the percent of respondents who like rap declined
as the age category got older. 81.6 percent of Black respondents in the age category 18-29 like
rap compared to 44.7 percent of White respondents. In the 40 and older age category 18 percent
of White respondents like rap compared to 40 percent of Black respondents
