Occupational Structure during the British Period

It is the distribution of workers among different sectors

Employment sector is broadly classified

under 3 heads Primary, Secondary and –

Tertiary.

Primary Sector (Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, Mining, Quarries

etc) Secondary Sector (Small and large scale industries all kinds) Tertiary or Service Sector (Transport, Communication, Commerce, Banking,

Business, Education, Healthcare, Insurance etc)

Occupational Structure during the British Period

Majority of the work force were dependent on agriculture (70 - 75 %)

The share of manufacturing sector was low (10 %)

The share of service sector was also low (15 - 20

%)
