Report on performance of Government in past 10 years

Introduction

The data used in ‘Development in Indian Education Sector’ presentation has been sourced from the PMO office of India. Through these slides we have tried to portray that growth that has taken place during last 10 years in different segments of Indian education sector.

Since the implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2,14,561 Primary and 1,76,361 Upper Primary schools have been sanctioned under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA) till date, of which

96% are operational

UPA sanctions Rs 23,836 crore for SSA during 2012-

13, a jump of nearly 8.7 times over the 2003-04 (NDA) budget of Rs 2,730 crore

19,76,502 teacher posts have been sanctioned

under Sarva Shisksha Abhiyan, 12,34,016 have

been recruited

RTE requires all private schools to

reserve 25% of

seats to children from

backward &

challenged sections of the society

Uniforms to all girls, SC, ST and BPL children, have been provided for 504.83 lakh children.

9.94 crore children were supplied free text

books in 2012

UPA allocates Rs 9,890 crore in 2011-12 for Mid day meal, a jump of nearly

7.5 times over the 2003-04 (NDA) budget of Rs 1,325 crore

More than 11 Crore studying in 12.31 lakh institutions have availed of the Mid Day Meal.

Literacy Rate of India under UPA has

increased from 64.84% in 2001 to 74.04% in 2011

Increase in Gross Enrolment Ratio at the middle school level from 62.5% in 2003-04 to

85.5% in 2010-11 under UPAGross Enrolment Ratio in Higher Educational Institutions has increased from

12% to 18% of the college going age population, during the last

ten years.

Under UPA, central universities have increased from 17 in 2004

to 44 in 2013, plus 9 new IITs and 7 new IIMs besides five IISERs and two IIITs .

New IIT's at – Jodhpur,

Bhubaneswar,

Hyderabad, Patna,

Gandhinagar,

Indore, Mandi, and Ropar established

by UPA. Banaras Hindu University has been made an IITThe Scheme for setting up of 20 new IIITs in PPP mode. 15 State Governments having identified

land for setting up of the Institutes. Bill in this regard

already introduced in Lok Sabha.

UPA has massively expanded the number of IIM’s in the country by

building 7 new IIM’s

New IIM's at – Ranchi, Shillong,

Tiruchirapalli, Kashipur, Rohtak,

Udaipur and Raipur

Congress-led UPA has established

6 New AIIMSNew AIIMS in Patna, Bhubhaneshwar,

Bhopal, Raipur, Jodhpur and Rishikesh have expanded India's Health Infrastructure.

5 new Indian Institute of Science

Education and Research (IISER’s) established

2 new School of Planning and Architecture established

10 new National Institutes of Technology (NIT’s) established.

6 new Law Universities established

Under the scheme to set up 6,000 model schools at Block level

1,880 model schools have been approved by 2012
