Prayer Requests
If you have any of the above pastoral
needs, please contact your Parish Office.
Everybody has a place at the table, and nobody deserves to feel inferior, unworthy, unwanted, or marginalized. It is not part of God’s vision. Jesus
came to heal, make things whole, set things right, and restore relationships. No one is to feel unwelcome or alienated from the community. Whether
we like it or not, this message is at the core of the Gospel. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Perhaps this is why people kept coming
from everywhere to listen to Jesus speak and to be in his presence. He made perfect sense. There are no easy solutions to the world’s dilemmas.
But one thing is for certain, everyone matters.
Bishop’s Annual Appeal
The Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports ministries that benefit you, your
family and your greater parish community. Please make a gift today.
Each dollar raised goes directly to ministries that support our Catholic
faith and is not used for any other purpose. This year’s theme, “Gifts
Offered by Human Hands,” challenges us to live our baptismal call,
recognizing that “every great gift comes from above,” and therefore is
ordained to the purpose of furthering God’s kingdom here on earth.
May the work of our local Church be fruitful in the mission of bringing
that reign to light.
As the Body of Christ, we should recognize that there is no “us and
them” in regard to our parish communities and the diocese. Our very
mission makes us interdependent. Ultimately vibrant diocesan
ministries set the tone for vibrant parish ministries. So, I never fail to
send in a donation to this appeal, and I thank you for your generous
support of our local Church!
St. Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a cultural treasure, a day to express affection to a
friend or lover. Our modern observance is a curious attachment to the
3
rd
century Saint Valentine. St. Valentine was a priest and physician,
who took compassion upon the martyrs of his day and buried their
bodies. When he was caught and identified as a Christian, he was
beaten and eventually beheaded on February 14, 270 A.D.
Apparently, our modern tradition of romance sprang from the seasonal
changes in England, where the pairing of birds was to be expected
around the feast of St. Valentine, February 14. Though it has evolved
to cupids and arrows, candy hearts and love letters, it is important to
note that the pure love of a martyr is the origin of this feast day. Never
forget Jesus said, “This is my commandment: love one another as I
have loved you. There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s
life for one’s friends” (John 15:12-13). St. Valentine fulfilled this
command. May we follow in that same spirit.
Ash Wednesday
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. “Remember that you are dust, and
to dust you shall return.” It is time to return to the Lord from whom we
come. “For our hearts are restless until they rest in God”
(St. Augustine). For the sake of safety we have added two services to
our schedules and will be distributing ashes by sprinkling them upon
the top of the head. There will also be small containers for families to
administer amongst themselves. A card with a brief prayer service will
be available with the ashes. The hope is that all of us can
commemorate Ash Wednesday in a meaningful way. Please note the
bulletin schedule and common page for details.
Scriptural Quote for the Week
I turn to you, Lord,
in time of trouble,
and you fill me with
the joy of salvation.

Book Discussion Group
Interested in nourishing your faith and developing some
friendships at the same time? This spring’s lunchtime book
discussion group will be taking a look at Gratefullness: The
Habit of a Grace-Filled Life, by Susan Muto.
With a difficult 2020 still fresh in our minds, it seems like a good time to
read, reflect on, and discuss this important topic presented by an
author who’s well known for making spirituality clear and interesting and
accessible for regular folks. You can choose to meet in person (we’ll
have room for 10 people with social distancing) or via Zoom. We’ll
meet starting on Tuesday, March 2nd at 11:00am.
Please RSVP by February 22, so we can get you a free copy of the
book. Go to this link: https://forms.gle/eKWTScMoThy1wGNp8 or call
Toni at 320 845.5405.
Lector Formation
Join us on the last Saturday of each month from 9:00am-10:30am.
Each session will review some aspect of the theology of lecturing, a
review of readings for the coming month, and opportunities for practice
and look at best practices for lecturing.

BACK BASEMENT STEP REPAIR
As many know, the back basement steps include one huge step up/

many decades, we would like to have it repaired to prevent potential
injuries. Funds are currently being collected with hope to start the
project this winter. Donations are welcome.
Please mark donations as: BASEMENT STEP REPAIR. Thank you!
