Celebramos esta semana la fiesta de Santa

Mónica (27) y San Agustín (28), madre e hijo

que nos dejaron una bella enseñanza de

perseverancia, oración y amor por el Señor.

Agustín, el gran teólogo latino del siglo IV, no

pudo haberlo sido sin las oraciones de su

madre, Mónica, quien incansablemente oró por

su conversión después de muchos años de

búsqueda de la Verdad.

Que la intercesión de estos dos santos nos

ayuden a confiar más en la intercesión de unos

por otros y a amar más profunda y

decididamente al Señor.

This week we celebrate the memorial of St.

Monica (27) and St. Augustine (28), mother

and son who left us a great example of

perseverance, pray and love to the Lord.

Augustine, the great theologian from the IV

century, couldn’t be that great without the

intercession of his mother, Monica, who prayed

tirelessly for his conversion after many years

of searching for the truth. May the intercession

of this two great saints help us to offer our

prayers of intercession for each other and to

love more profoundly to the Lord.

AS SUMMER BEGINS TO END….

FOOD PANTRY

Thanks to several generous grants we are beginning a much-needed renovation of the Saint Oscar Romero

Food Pantry, where Deacon Walter Doyle and his able assistants have exercised creativity and perdurance

during these challenging months. New Refrigeration units will arrive in the coming weeks along with a

refinishing of walls, floors and ceilings.

CCD

Sister Veronica has been making plans with parents and teachers for Religious Education Classes via Zoom

beginning next month. We are also preparing for Bishop McManus to administer the Sacrament of

Confirmation on Saturday, September 12th at a ticketed event, due to COVID limitations on seating. There are

eight Confirmations scheduled for the Cathedral between now and December for parishes from all

throughout the Diocese of Worcester.

PEWS

We’re delighted to announce that the first stage of renovation of our pews (and padding of the kneelers!) will

begin in September. Thanks to the pandemic half the pews can be removed without our even noticing! The

hopes are to have the thirty Pews in the front and center of the Cathedral completed by Christmas. I am

grateful to the 55 folks who, over the past five years, have donated to complete this phase of the project. If

you would like your name or the name of a beloved deceased relative to appear on one of the renovated

pews the next phase, the requested donation is $2,500 per pew. Here’s a sketch of what the “pew ends”

being fabricated by the skilled craftsmen at Lloyd’s Woodworking in Hudson will look like.

DESPENSA DE ALIMENTOS

Gracias a muchos aportes generosos, empezaremos una necesaria renovación de la despensa de alimentos San

Oscar Romero, donde el diácono Walter Doyle y sus asistentes han mostrado una gran creatividad y compro-

miso durante estos meses tan difíciles. Las próximas semanas tendremos nuevos refrigeradores junto con la

restauración de las paredes, el techo y los pisos.

EDUCACION RELIGIOSA

La hermana Verónica ha estado trabajando duramente con los padres y los profesores de la catequesis para

empezar las clases el próximo mes a través de Zoom. Nos estamos preparando también para las

confirmaciones el próximo 12 de septiembre. Para participar en esta ceremonia se necesitará tener una

invitación con el fin de controlar el número permitido de participantes. En lo que queda del año hay ocho

ceremonias de confirmación programadas en la Catedral para distintas parroquias de la Diócesis.

BANCAS

Nos alegramos en anunciar que la primera etapa de la renovación de las bancas (y los reclinatorios)

empezarán en septiembre. Gracias a la pandemia, la mitad de las bancas podrán ser removidas sin siquiera

notarse. Esperamos poder completar 30 bancas del frente del templo para la Navidad. Estamos muy

agradecidos con 55 hermanos y hermanas que durante los últimos cinco años han hecho sus aportes para

completar esta primera fase de la renovación. Si está interesado en que el nombre de un familiar difunto esté

en una de las bancas nuevas en la segunda fase, la donación requerida es de $2.500 por banca. Aquí tenemos

un bosquejo de cómo se verán las bancas que están siendo fabricadas por los talentosos artesanos de Lloyd’s

Woodworking en Hudson.
