What are Input Devices ?

Input devices are those machines

that feed data into the computer .

Some Input devices are :

Camera Joystick Mouse Microphone Scanner Keyboard

What are output devices ?

Output devices are those machines

capable of representing

information from a computer.

Some Output Devices are :

• Monitor • Printer • Speakers •Headphones

Keyboard• One of the common and widely used input device. • The keyboard is divided into different areas.• The most common names for keyboards is QWERTY.

Advantages of a keyboard

Advantages : • A keyboard is usually

supplied with computers • People are used to using

keyboards to enter data.

Disadvantages of a keyboard Disadvantages:• Mistakes are easily made • Excessive use can lead to

R.S.I• Keyboards are not suitable

for creating diagrams

Mouse• The mouse is also one of the

most common input devices used.• Also known as the pointing

device.• Enables you to control what

happens on the screen and what to point at.

Advantages of a mouse.

• Ideal for use with desktop computers •Users are familiar with the mouse • It is faster than using a keyboard

Disadvantages of the mouse.

•Overuse can lead to R.S.I.• Is not accurate in drawings.• Is not easy and convenient to insert text.

TrackballIs like a mouse and is used

to control a pointer on screen

Track point It is found in the middle of

the keyboard and is used to move the pointer on the screen.

Touch padA small area which has to

be touched in order to move the pointer on screen.

• Printers produce hard copy of the information.• There are quite a good number of

printers of different types some are : laser printer, inkjet printer etc..

MONITOR• It is a screen which display output from a computer.• A monitor is usually used to see programs on a

computer• There are two main types of monitors:The CRT monitor, which is big and heavy. It is the oldest

technology used by monitors. It looks like a television, but has a bigger display resolution and often a higher frequency. CRT stands for cathode-ray tube.

The LCD monitor, which is thin, flat, and lightweight. It is a newer technology than CRTs. The quality can be the same or even better than a CRT, but this type of monitor usually costs more than a CRT.

Headphones are listening devices that are placed over, on, or in the ears of a user depending on the

type at use.

Headphones allow a user to listen to the desired sound that the user wants to hear such as music, a

tape recording.

MicrophoneWhen people wish to communicate to a large crowd or when they want to record sound, a

microphone is a valuable piece of equipment.
