INTRODUCTION• Project :
• A project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to accomplish a unique purpose, involving several people performing interrelated activities.
• The primary focus is on effective use of resources to complete project in an efficient and timely manner.
INTRODUCTION• Project Management :
Project Management is “the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations from a project”.
INTRODUCTIONIT PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project management has been an established field for many years.
Managing information technology requires ideas and information that go beyond standard project management.
The future of many organisations depends on their ability to harness information technology.
INTRODUCTION
Information technology projects involve using hardware, software and networks to create a product, service or result.
Triple Constraints of project management
PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
• The project life cycle (PLC) is a collection of logical stages or phases that maps the life of a project from its beginning to its end in order to define, build, and deliver the product of a project—that is, the information system.
• Each phase should provide one or more deliverables.
PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
IT PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE
• Projects follow a project life cycle, information systems development follows a product life cycle.
• The most common product life cycle in IT is the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
SDLC
• Stands for systems development life cycle.• It represents the sequential phases or stages
an information system follows throughout its useful life.
• It establishes a logical order or sequence in which the system development activities occur and indicates whether to proceed from one system development activity to the next.

PROJECT SCHEDULING
• Project scheduling may be described as the determination of the best means of achievement a project’s general rule and specific objectives.
• This involves identification and optimization of the projects overall requirements , resources, resource availability and internal and external constraint and activity sequencing.

MONITORING AND CONTROLLING • Project control ensures that processes and
resources are in place to help the project manager monitor the project.
• It provides the capability to measure performance, alerts the project manager to problem situations, and holds people accountable.
• Controls also ensure that resources are being utilized efficiently
cntd..
• Controls can be either internal to the project (i.e., set by the project organization or methodology) or external (i.e., set by government or military standards).
• The control and monitoring activities of a project must be clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
QUALITY CONTROL
• The International Organisation of Standardisation(ISO) defines quality as "the totality of characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs".
• Quality control involves monitoring specific project results to determine if they comply with relevant quality standards.
