KING SAUL’S SECRET SÉANCE1 Samuel 28

BACKGROUND

Saul was the first King of Israel

He began well

But his reign ended badly

He offered burnt and peace offerings

He kept the Amalakite king

alive and kept the best animals

He was jealous

and tried to kill David.

God was angry because of Saul’s

sins.

He declared that none of his

descendants would rule.

God removed His Spirit from Saul.

God permitted Saul to be troubled by

an evil spirit.

God stopped communicating with Saul, and Samuel died.

THE SITUATION

The Philistines were gathering to attack

Israel.

Saul’s army was outnumbered

Saul was afraid, and wanted guidance.

On the night before the battle Saul in disguise, visited a

medium.

Going to witches was a pagan

practice.

God had forbidden such things by His

people.

They had revelation from God

God wasn’t speaking to Him; and he was never fully committed to

obeying God.

Saul wanted to contact Samuel

SAUL’S SCARY SÉANCE

The medium attempted to

contact Samuel.

She was terrified when he actually appeared to her!

It wasn’t a ghost, nor Samuel’s spirit,

but perhaps a demon.

His message

frightened Saul:

You will lose the battle.

You and your sons will die.

David will be given the kingdom

THE BATTLE OF MT. GILBOA

The Philistines prevailed in battle.

Saul was wounded by enemy archers

on Mt. Gilboa.

His sons were killed in battle.

Saul fell on his sword to avoid being

captured.

The bodies of Saul and his sons were hung on the walls of the Temple of Dagon in Beth-

shan.

1 Chronicles 10:13-14 explain God’s

control of the

circumstances.

Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David, son of Jesse.

WHAT DO WE LEARN?

Have nothing to do with the occult of any form, ever!

God tells us all we need to know in the

Bible.

God never turns his back on us, unless

we 1st turn our backs on Him.
