KINGDOM OF GOD VS. KINGDOM OF

THIS WORLD

Mt. 5:27-30 : Adultery

Mt. 5:27-30 “You have heard that it was said to those of old,[a

] ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[b] 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”

Explanation of Scripture Part of Jesus’ sermon on the mount. He explains how even looking at a

women with lust is a sin Jesus then talks about the punishment

for the sin “if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you”

Adultery

Jesus defines adultery as coveting another woman/man while you already have a wife/husband

This act of distrust breaks the vows of matrimony

Dictionary.com noun, plural voluntary sexual intercourse b

etween a married person and someone other than his or her lawful spouse.

Adultery fits in the kingdom of this world lust(uncontrolled or illicit sexual desire or appeltite;) not love Breaks apart marriages and families Causes distrust Adultery fits on this world's kingdom because it's not

living out Jesus' challenge to Love, either God or others. Adultery is dishonest, disloyal, and involves lust. Since loving is giving, and lust is taking, they are completely opposite. Giving is part of the Kingdom of God, and taking is part of the Kingdom of this world. Jesus wanted us to love others, and adultery hurts not only the two people directly involved, but also the spouses of those people. It isn't “giving” to anyone, and doesn't fit into the Kingdom of God, but fits into the kingdom of this world.

Life in The Kingdom of God What Should Be Done – There's not

much that can be done in terms of the law. People have to individually be aware of things like their lust, and resist it and ask God's help to resist it. They can also try to do their best to live out the Kingdom of God, by loving others and loving God.

Current Statistics of Adultery 2,077,000 marriages a year 1,135,000 divorces a year Divorce rate around 50% Adultery responsible for 29% of divorceso 329,150 divorces due to adultery per

Effects of Adultery

Leading cause of divorce Tears apart families Ends/disrupts communion of love If marriage survives trust issues will

most likely become a problem Sets bad example for children Causes you to become yet another

statistic

Our Challenge: Not to become a Statistic Respect the sacrament of marriage Don’t covet others Marry for the right reasons not

for Lust Respect spouses Put love before lust Don’t let simple disagreements become

huge problems

Our Challenge as Youth Don’t celebrate affairs

Celebrity tabloidsEx) Tiger Woods

Don’t glorify lustEx) inappropriate magazines, R-rated

movies, and much more common thingsHollywood

Make marriage a celebration Don’t fall into the common (Hollywood)

belief that marriage is the end of life as you know it

Marriage doesn't = the end of fun; it = a new life united in a loving communion with another

Marriage is a celebration of a special love between two individuals

The End

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” ~ Bible
