Overview Metro and the City of Los Angeles are partnering to improve 5th Street and 6th Street in downtown LA to enhance mobility and safety for the thousands of people who walk, bike, roll, ride transit or drive in the area. This project is an important step in building a comprehensive, multi-modal transit network in downtown LA.
Street Improvements > Improve road conditions by repaving and restriping lanes along both streets.
> Add protected bike lanes to create a safe and well connected network that better facilitates east-west travel, especially in the eastern section of downtown.
> Add dedicated bus lanes to enhance service and efficiency for transit users.
Project BoundariesThis project is located along 5th Street and 6th Street in downtown LA, between Flower Street on the west and Central Avenue on the east. Road improvements and bus lanes will span the entire corridor. Protected bike lanes will run from Spring Street to Central Avenue.
Timelinephase 1 (june–july 2020)
> Pre-construction activities
> Repave and restripe 5th Street and 6th Street
> Activate bus-only lane on westbound 5th Street from Central Avenue to mid-block pedestrian crossing signal (roughly 400 feet east of Flower Street)
> Activate bus-only lane on eastbound 6th Street from Hope Street to Central Avenue
phase 2 (tentatively april 2021) > Extend bus-only lane on westbound 5th Street from mid-block to Flower Street
> Install signal queue jumper for buses on 5th Street at Flower Street
Resumen Metro y la ciudad de Los Angeles se asociaron para mejorar las calles 5th y 6th en el centro de Los Angeles para mejorar la movilidad y la seguridad de las miles de personas que caminan, andan en bicicleta, ruedan, viajan en transporte público o conducen en el área. Este proyecto es un paso importante en la construcción de una red de transporte público integral y multimodal en el centro de Los Angeles.

Límites del proyectoEste proyecto se ubica a lo largo de las calles 5th y 6th en el centro de Los Angeles, entre Flower St en el oeste y Central Av en el este. Las mejoras en las calles y los carriles de autobuses abarcarán todo el corredor. Los carriles dedicados a las bicicletas correrán desde Spring St hasta Central Av.
Horariofase 1 ( junio a julio de 2020)
> Actividades previas a la construcción
> Repavimentar y volver a pintar los carriles en las calles 5th y 6th
> Activar el carril de autobús dedicado en la calle 5th hacia el oeste desde Central Av hasta la señal de cruce peatonal a mitad de la cuadra (aproximadamente 400 pies al este de Flower St)
> Activar el carril de autobús dedicado en la calle 6th en dirección este desde Hope St a Central Av
