Data Protection• Protecting data from accidental loss or

deliberate destruction is a critical element of workstation administration, whether you are working in an enterprise, small business, or residential setting.

• To do this, you must create system backups at regular intervals.

Using Windows 7 File Recovery

• The Windows 7 Backup and Restore program integrates the wizard-based file and folder backup and the system image backup capabilities into one program.

• In Windows 8, this Backup and Restore program is deprecated in favor of the File History application.

• Windows 8 still includes Backup and Restore—now renamed as Windows 7 File Recovery—primarily to support users upgrading from Windows 7 who have existing system backups and scheduled jobs.

Creating a System Image Backup

• To back up the entire system disk, perform a system image backup, which is a separate backup of the computer’s system disk and the reserved partition that Windows 8 creates on the disk during installation.

• Create a system image backup as part of your regular scheduled backup job, or create one separately on demand, but you cannot schedule a system image backup through the Windows 7 File Recovery control panel.

Oro Restart the computer using the Advanced Startup

Creating a System Repair Disc

• In addition to performing backups and restores, the Windows 7 File Recovery control panel can also create a system repair disc.

• A system repair disc enables you to start the computer and access system recovery options if you do not have a Windows 8 installation disk or a recovery partition.

Creating a Windows 8 Recovery Drive

• When you create a recovery drive in Windows 8, you can use a USB flash drive or a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM.

• If your computer is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product that includes a recovery partition containing the Windows 8 installation files, you can create a recovery drive that includes those files, enabling you to use the disk to perform a complete reset of the computer.
