Success Story #1 – Bake me a cakeIn an Italian bakery campaign, customers received coupons for goods from the bakery by using their mobile handsets to respond to advertisements displayed in the store, on billboards and on the radio offering a free gift coupon or special offer in local stores. Sales had reportedly jumped nine percent within the first three weeks of the campaign.

Success Story #2 – Do you want cheese with that?In the Swedish town of Lulea, 2,500 mobile phone users signed up to receive SMS text messages with special offers from 150 local organizations. When sent an SMS text message for a hamburger offer, 25 percent of the users took advantage of the offer. The burger joint in question broke all records in sales while the offer was available.

ResultsBy the end of the campaign on December 31st, 2008, Planet Funk discovered they had created over 20% of their total December revenue via the mobile coupon. Almost 2,000 coupons were generated with a redemption rate at a staggering 91% & a 377% ROI.

YOU CAN’T IGNORE THE NUMBERS“For advertisers, mobile coupons offer a great ROI,” said Peter Conti, junior executive vice president at Borrell Associates, Richmond, VA. “Redemption rates are 10 times that of mail – or newspaper – distributed coupons.“They can be changed out quickly and target consumers much more effectively,” he said.Borrell Associates provides local advertising research and analysis, market-specific ad-spending data, consulting and sales training.
