It gives me great pleasure and sense of satisfaction to be a part of my first ever industrial visit
to an organization of repute like Mother Dairy. I have been able to compile this project report on the
basis of fruitful interface with my faculty members and friends. Special care has been taken to include
my first hand experience of whatever I could observe personally at the site. The project has been
compiled in a simple language and easy to understand style

HISTORY
Mother Dairy is one of the largest liquid milk plants in Asia.
Mother Dairy was setup in 1974 under the Operation Flood Program. It is now a subsidiary
Ycompany of a wholly owned company of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
In 1994, Mother Dairy started diversifying by marketing Ice-Cream through its milk shops, fruit
and vegetable shops, select retail outlets and pushcarts.
No wonder that 75% of the branded milk product market is captured by Mother Dairy.
Presently, Mother Dairy sells more than 28 lakh liters of milk per day, out of which
approximately 9 lakh liters of milk is sold as bulk vended milk and another 19 lakh liters of milk
is sold sachets in five different variants across six states.
There are over 14,000 retail outlets and 845 exclusive outlets of Mother Dairy..
The company also markets edible oils, fruits and vegetables, and juices through sales and
distribution networks.

It offers its products in Delhi, Haryana, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.
Key people are Paul Thachil, CEO of Mother Dairy India Ltd and Mr. Sunil Bansal, CEO of
Horticulture SUB.

The Process Flow of the Mother Dairy
Clarification
The chilled milk from the soils goes to the clarifier after pre-heating. The clarifier spins the milk
at very high speed, removing all dust particles that are invisible to the naked eye.
Standardization
Milk from different breeds of cows and buffaloes varies in its composition. Hence, to make milk
uniform in composition, it is standardized by raise or lowering its fat and SNF percentage to a desired
level, so as to deliver the milk to consumers as per prescribed PFA norms.
Homogenization

In this process, the milk is subjected to a very high pressure due to which the large fat globules
present in milk are broken down into tiny droplets. The milk fat gets evenly distributed and milk appears
whiter and thicker. Milk is homogenized for consumers who do not like creamy layer on top.
Homogenization improves palatability of milk.
Pasteurization
In this process, the milk is heated at 72oC for 15 seconds and then is rapidly cooled down to 4oC.
This process kills all the pathogenic bacteria present in the milk making milk safe for consumption.
Pasteurization unlike boiling does not affect the nutritive value of the milk
Pasteurization, named after French Scientist Louis Pasteur who invented the process was first applied
to milk by Dr. Soxhlet of Germany.

12 Packets of UHT milk (1 Liter each) are arranged in Kraft paper tray (Holding the packs at
bottom and sides). This tray is then shrink wrapped completely with poly liner from top to
bottom.

Packaging
Primary: - Dairy Whitener is packed pn 50gm, 200 gm and 500 gm multicolor 3 ply laminates having 10
micron polyester, 12 micron metalized polyester and 62.5 micron metallocene poly.
Secondary: -The laminates are then put into 5-ply kraft paper corrugated boxes containing 12 Kgs. of net
product in each box.
RECENT INNOVATION
“Nutrifit”
“Nutrifit” is a delicious probiotic fermented milk drink. Each bottle contains live and active
probiotic bacteria which help strengthen your immune system.
Nutrifit is made up of milk, culture, fruit and sugar. The key ingredient of “Nutrifit” is its unique
probiotic culture which imparts immunity enhancing quality to it and the natural fruit contributes
to the delicious taste.
Probiotic are living microorganisms which when consumed in sufficient quantities reach the
intestine in an active form and exert health benefits.
“Nutrifit” helps to enhance the immune health if consumed regularly as a part of balanced diet
and health lifestyle.
Unique probiotic strains LA-5 and BB-12 present in “Nutrifit” act directly in gastrointestinal
tract where major part (about 70%) of body’s immune system is present.
