like Philippines, China and Thailand shifting

frombeingrecipientstodonors,andthat

manydevelopingAsiancountriesdonated

significantfinancialcontributioninmajor

disasters like Typhoon Haiyan. With this,

heencouragedparticipantstoriseabove

systemicfundraisingchallengesbybuilding

on our network consolidating fundraising

skills and sharing knowledge and experience.

Heemphasizedtheneedtorevisitour

fundraisingstrategies,puttingmoreefforts

andinvestmentinfundraisingtechniques

that yield significant results and have the

potentialforhighincome.Healsostressed

theimportanceofworkingtogethertogrow

and succeed.

Dr.GwendolynPang,SecretaryGeneral,

PhilippineRedCrossandformerAPFNChair

deliveredtheopeningremarks.Shecalled

formoreextensiveeffortsonthepartof

fundraiserstoraisemorefundstosustainour

humanitarianoperations.

Shealsoemphasizedtheintegralroleof

leadership and governance in fundraising.

She related that she had the opportunity to

meetwiththeHeadsofNationalSocieties

duringtheAsiaPacificRegionalConference

inBeijing,October2014andspeakaboutthe

importanceofsupportingResourceMobilization

and engaging with the APFN. She was glad to

sharethatthisreceivedpositivefeedbackfrom

the leaders.

arangeoffinancialandstrategicindicators.

Theaimofthesessionwastounderstandthe

enablingfactorsforfundraisingsuccessandhow

wellNationalSocietiesareperformingagainst

theFederationWideResourceMobilisation

Strategy(FWRMS).

Participantsinthesurveywere:HongKong,

Japan,Maldives,Taiwan,Thailand,Fiji;New

Zealand,Kiribati,SolomonIslands,Philippines,

Australia,Mongolia,Nepal,Singapore,

and Indonesia.

3. Engaging with governments

and multilaterals

IFRCandNationalSocietyengagementwith

multilateralsintheregionwasthefocusof

the third plenary. Strategies were presented

forengagingwithbilateraldonors,suchasthe

Australiangovernmentandlessonswere

sharedfromthecollaborationofPhilippine

RedCrossandAustralianRedCross.Thissession

gaveparticipantsabetterunderstandingonwhy

it’simportanttoengagewithmulti-lateralsand

thoughtstoconsiderincollaborating

withgovernments.

The APFN was honoured with the presence of

deliveredaveryinspiringspeechtoparticipants.

MrAsSycommendedRedCrossRedCrescent

peopleforbeingthefirsttorespondtodisasters

andthelasttocomeout.Hecontinued,

“Weareevenmorethanthat,aswedon’t

leaveanywherebecauseit’swherewebelong.

Wedon’tgotorespondtodisastersbecause

disastersfindusthere.”

Asfundraisers,itwasinspiringtohearhim

sayingthatbeforemakingasophisticatedvision,

weshouldremindourselvesofwhatweare.He

quotedMandelawhosaid,“Wearearainbow

community.”Hestressedthatthisfundraisers’

networkisaboutmovingustothesamepath,

itisaboutwhatwehaveincommonandwhat

wecanshare.“Whenwecometogether,it’s

importanttoremindourselvesofthesame

fundamentalvaluesandprinciplesthatbringus

toonedirection.”Hewentontosaythatthere

issubstanceinwhatwedoinfundraisingand

asfundraisersinourownright,weareanRCRC

actoramidstthemagnitudeofproblemswe

face today.

anddevelopment.

Furthermore,theparticipantslearnedhow

tointegrateorusedigitalplatformsin

and pay per click were introduced.

insighttotheNationalSocieties’approachto
