• SGMS currently has an enrollment of 591 students. • SGMS is roughly 42% Latino, 21% African American, 21%

White, 12% Asian and 4% Multi-racial• SGMS has a  successful PBIS/Restorative Justice program • SGMS has robust Community Partnerships with KID

Museum, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the National Philharmonic 

• SGMS is currently piloting the new math and reading curriculums

▶ Have Timber Time each Tuesday▶ Use lockers▶ Continue to advocate for their own learning▶ Move from concrete to critical thinkers▶ Have a little more freedom AND responsibility

Teachers will provide recommendations for:• MATH classes and intervention• READING interventions

The Shady Grove Middle School electives program a unified arts quarterly rotation for all 6th grade students and a choice of one year long electives option.

✓ Between January 29-31, 2020, review the course bulletin and discuss elective options with your child.

✓ Review the registration letter, sign and then return the form to your child’s homeroom teacher by February 7, 2020.

• Lunches are generally separated by grade level

• Classes are full year or quarterly (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) in sixth grade

• All periods are about 50 minutes in length with a 4 minute passing time

Outdoor Education

All 6th graders in Montgomery County attend outdoor education every year. Is is a three day, two night outdoor learning experience filled with fun, adventure, nature, & friends.

In Montgomery County 6th graders may not participate in Interscholastic sports…

HOWEVER… at Shady Grove, students may participate in after school clubs and Intramural

sports such as:Extended Day Programs, Just Girls Group,

Homework Club, Computer Gaming, SGA (Student Government Association) and many more!
