GREAT JOB, St. Pius families! If each family brings one item of nonperishable food every week, the Pantry will stay

filled; the Social Ministry Office can then use its money on people’s other needs. (See p. ?? for food items needed.)

The program SACRED AND SAFE trains children to see themselves as

precious individuals with God-given dignity, and to be cautious of certain

behaviors usually seen in predators. Age-appropriate lessons are scheduled for

regular class on 10/26-29. – Sign Up or “Opt Out”!

Parents, we need your signature “Yes” or “No” to know

if your child may attend. Sign-up pages will be

available during your child’s class time 10/11-15 and

10/18-22 in front of Rooms 7-8 (Science Lab), where you

can also review the lesson plans.

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song First Reading Gn 2:18-24

The LORD God said: "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him." So the LORD God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all wild animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man.

So the LORD God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The LORD God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man.

When he brought her to the man, the man said: "This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called 'woman, ' for out of 'her man’ this one has been taken." That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one flesh.

Second Reading Heb 2:9-11 Brothers and sisters: He "for a little while" was made "lower than the angels, " that by the grace of God he might taste death for

everyone. For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the leader to their salvation perfect through suffering. He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them “brothers.”

Gospel Mk 10:2-16 The Pharisees approached Jesus and asked, "Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" They were testing him. He said to them

in reply, "What did Moses command you?" They replied, "Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her." But Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." In the house the disciples again questioned Jesus about this. He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery." And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.

Entonces el Señor Dios formó de la tierra todas las bestias del campo y todos los pájaros del cielo y los llevó ante Adán para que les pusiera nombre y así todo ser viviente tuviera el nombre puesto por Adán. Así, pues, Adán les puso nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a los pájaros del cielo y a las bestias del campo; pero no hubo ningún ser semejante a Adán para ayudarlo.

Segunda lectura Heb 2, 8-11 Hermanos: Es verdad que ahora todavía no vemos el universo entero sometido al hombre; pero sí vemos ya al que por un momento

Dios hizo inferior a los ángeles, a Jesús, que por haber sufrido la muerte, está coronado de gloria y honor. Así, por la gracia de Dios, la muerte que él sufrió redunda en bien de todos. En efecto, el creador y Señor de todas las cosas quiere que todos sus hijos tengan parte en su gloria. Por eso convenía que Dios consumara en la perfección, mediante el sufrimiento, a Jesucristo, autor y guía de nuestra salvación. El santificador y los santificados tienen la misma condición humana. Por eso no se avergüenza de llamar hermanos a los hombres.

Evangelio Mc 10, 2-16 En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús unos fariseos y le preguntaron, para ponerlo a prueba: “¿Le es lícito a un hombre divorciarse

de su esposa?” Él les respondió: “¿Qué les prescribió Moisés?” Ellos contestaron: “Moisés nos permitió el divorcio mediante la entrega de un acta de divorcio a la esposa”. Jesús les dijo: “Moisés prescribió esto, debido a la dureza del corazón de ustedes. Pero desde el principio, al crearlos, Dios los hizo hombre y mujer. Por eso dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre y se unirá a su esposa y serán los dos una sola cosa. De modo que ya no son dos, sino una sola cosa. Por eso, lo que Dios unió, que no lo separe el hombre”. Ya en casa, los discípulos le volvieron a preguntar sobre el asunto. Jesús les dijo: “Si uno se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra, comete adulterio contra la primera. Y si ella se divorcia de su marido y se casa con otro, comete adulterio”.

Después de esto, la gente le llevó a Jesús unos niños para que los tocara, pero los discípulos trataban de impedirlo. Al ver aquello, Jesús se disgustó y les dijo: “Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios es de los que son como ellos. Les aseguro que el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él”. Después tomó en brazos a los niños y los bendijo imponiéndoles las manos.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

We begin a month in which we examine our call to Stewardship as disciples of the Christ Jesus with the Annual Mission Appeal. The

Somascan Fathers, through their missionary work, remind us that we are a part of the Body of Christ and called to offer our support to

the Church throughout the world.

We also welcome today, as a new Parochial Vicar, Fr. Ricardo Lazo, who comes to us from Ecuador. Fr. Paschal Ezeihouma is

reassigned to St. Francis de Sales Parish. The assignment of Fr. Lazo and Fr. Paschal was not finalized until the last day of September

and we were constrained from any formal announcement until we knew for certain of the Cardinal’s wishes. As a result, most of us

have not had the opportunity to make a proper farewell to Fr. Paschal, who has served the St. Pius V Community these past 3 years.

We pray for God’s blessing upon him in his new parish and I urge you to write or call him at his new assignment to express your

thanks and appreciation. (If you would like to drop a note at the parish office, we will see that it is forwarded to him.)

Guided by the Spirit, may the missionary work of the Church bring forth fruit in every place.

Empezamos un mes en lo cual examinamos nuestra llamada a la corresponsabilidad como discípulos de Cristo Jesús con la Colecta

Anual por los misioneros. Los Padres Somascos, a través de su trabajo misionero, nos recuerdan que somos parte del Cuerpo de Cristo

y llamados a ofrecer nuestro apoyo a la Iglesia en todo el mundo.

Hoy también le damos la bienvenida a Padre Ricardo Lazo nuestro Vicario Parroquial nuevo, quien viene a San Pio V de Ecuador.

Padre Pascual Ezeihouma ha estado nombrado Vicario en la Parroquia de San Francisco de Sales. Este no se finalizó hasta el último

día de septiembre y nos quedamos limitados de cualquier anuncio formal hasta que supiéramos con certeza de los deseos del cardenal.

Como resultado, la mayoría de nosotros no hemos tenido la oportunidad de hacer una despedida adecuada al Padre Pascual, que ha

servido a la comunidad de San Pío V estos últimos 3 años. Oramos por la bendición de Dios sobre él en su nueva parroquia y yo les

invito a escribirle una carta a él en su nueva parroquia para expresar nuestro agradecimiento y aprecio. (Si desea dejar una nota en la

oficina parroquial, vamos a remitirlo a él.)

Guiados por el Espíritu, que el trabajo misionero de la Iglesia dé fruto en todo lugar.

FATHER OF THE FATHERLESS—For five centuries the Somascan Fathers and Brothers have carried out throughout the world Saint Jerome Emiliani’s legacy, “work, devotion, and charity are the Foundation of our activity”.

OUR MISSION The Somascan Fathers or “The Company of the Servants of the Poor" was founded in 1534 when Jerome Emiliani called together his collaborators and companions for a general assembly. This handful of laymen and priests adopted an organized structure for the movement of religious and social reform started by Jerome in 1529 in Venice. Their goal was to dedicate themselves to the care, assistance, promotion of poor, orphans, abandoned youth.

WHAT WE DO Serving the ORPHANS in WORK, DEVOTION, CHARITY The Somascan Fathers and Brothers continue St. Jerome's mission by: living in communities pursuing holiness by prayer and ministry to the poor living in humility and kindness loving poverty and work praying to the Crucified Jesus and Mary Mother of the Orphans being either priests or brothers. Performing different ministries in the Church, such as: care of orphans, disadvantaged and poor treatment of at-risk-youth rehabilitation of drug addicts education pastoral care and spiritual guidance pastoral care of minorities foreign missions youth formation. Working in: group homes treatment and rehabilitation centers retreat houses schools youth centers parishes.

4 MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN NIGERIA 1. Giovanni Ferro Children Village: It is a village for children where our fathers, with local families and volunteers welcome street children who are abandoned and who have nothing. We are building a vocational school, where children can learn a job. 2. Parish with an Elementary School (grade 1 to 6th) 3. Center of Promotion of the Women (young girls are at risk for human traffic to Europe, the prostitution mafia is very active in that south region); we offer a place, support, and job opportunities, teaching trades, skills (bakery, tailoring, along with some basic accounting) 4. Education, formation of young seminarians to become a priest. We have a house of formation where young men can discern their own vocation to the priesthood and religious life.

PADRE DE LOS HUÈRHANOS—Durante cinco siglos los Padres Somascos y Hermanos han llevado a cabo a lo largo de la herencia del mundo San Jerónimo de Emiliani, "el trabajo, la dedicación y la caridad son la base de nuestra actividad".

NUESTRA MISIÓN—Los Padres Somascos o "La Compañía de los Siervos de los Pobres" fue fundada en 1534 cuando Jerónimo Emiliani llamó a sus colaboradores y compañeros para que una asamblea general. Este puñado de laicos y sacerdotes adoptó una estructura organizada para el movimiento de reforma religiosa y social iniciada por Jerónimo en 1529 en Venecia, Italia. Su objetivo era dedicarse al cuidado, la asistencia, la promoción de los pobres, los huérfanos, los jóvenes abandonados.

QUÉ HACEMOS—Sirviendo a los huérfanos en el trabajo, dedicación, caridad.Los Padres Somascos y hermanos continúan la misión de San Jerónimo: viven en comunidades que persiguen la santidad por la oración y el ministerio de los pobres que viven en la humildad y la bondad amorosa de la pobreza y el trabajo que ruega a Jesús Crucificado y María Madre de los Huérfanos de ser sacerdotes o hermanos. Realización de diferentes ministerios en la Iglesia, tales como: el cuidado de los huérfanos, el tratamiento desfavorecidos y pobres de al-jóvenes en riesgo de rehabilitación de la educación drogadictos cuidado pastoral y guía espiritual cuidado pastoral de las minorías misiones extranjeras formación de la juventud. Trabajo en: centros grupo de tratamiento y rehabilitación viviendas retiro de jóvenes de escuelas casas centros parroquias.

4 ACTIVIDADES PRINCIPALES EN NIGERIA 1. Giovanni Ferro Aldea Infantil: Es un hogar para los niños, donde nuestros padres, con familias y los voluntarios locales acogen a niños de la calle que están abandonados y que no tienen nada. Estamos construyendo una escuela vocacional, donde los niños pueden aprender un oficio. 2. Parroquia con una escuela primaria (grado 1 al 6) 3. Centro de Promoción de la Mujer (niñas están en riesgo para el tráfico humano a Europa, la mafia de la prostitución es muy activa en la región sur); Ofrecemos un lugar, apoyo y oportunidades de trabajo, la enseñanza de oficios, habilidades (panadería, corte y confección, junto con algo de contabilidad básica) 4. Educación, formación de seminaristas jóvenes para diventar sacerdote. Tenemos una casa de formación donde los jóvenes pueden discernir la propia vocación al sacerdocio ya la vida religiosa.
